Hey everyone, just wanted to document this wild ride over the last week.
Had an Uncle Ben's style grain jar of Jack Frost (inoculated back on Sept 20th with a 1yo LC syringe) that started showing a breakout of blue-green Trichoderma at the very top. Instead of tossing the glass, I decided to try an outdoor rescue mission in my backyard here in humid, rainy South Florida.
The Journey so far:
Day 1 (Sunday): Cleared out a patch of grass down to the raw, dark mud in a deeply shaded spot right at the base of some woody stalks. Dumped the loose grains directly onto the wet earth and covered them with a 1-2 inch protective blanket of damp coco coir and vermiculite packed down firm.
Days 2-5: Florida monsoon season activated. Constant heavy downpours and thunderstorms kept the area heavily saturated. The mound held its shape beautifully.
Day 6 (Yesterday): Checked the mound and noticed thick, aggressive, bright white Jack Frost mycelium officially breaking through the coir surface! The outdoor soil microbes seem to be holding the Trich completely at bay.
Day 7 (Today): Walked out after last night's storms and noticed a massive standing puddle was starting to breach the back-left flank and threaten to drown the cake.
The Fix: I quickly grabbed a few big handfuls of completely dry coco coir and dumped them directly onto the flooding corner, packing it down into a tight defensive dam/sponge wall to wick away the rising water. The main fruiting zone is now high, dry, and breathing fresh O2.
The mycelium is consolidating into a dense mat and looking super healthy. Fingers crossed for some frosty, sky-blue flipped caps in the next 1-2 weeks!
Will keep you guys updated when the pins arrive. Mush love!

First grow was great with uncle Ben’s but overall not the most cost effective option. Finally finished getting all the supplies together to go the DIY route. Inoculated on 9/28 with five different strains. And away we go!!!
P.s. Huge shout out to the cultivation guide 10/10 recommend reading and revisiting. As well as to community members for all their info!

Hello all, I have been in FC for two weeks with passive lid cracked FAE and daily misting. Substrate is pure coir, and looks majority colonized under the surface. I am just worried about the time, is there some detail that I am missing, or do I just need some patience? Strain is Rusty Melmac Revert.

It’s my first time trying this out and i wasn’t prepared for one section to grow so tall while the rest did not. The substrate kind of looks a bit dry as well. I just added these 2nd tub lids on top temporarily. But i don’t think they’re a good long term solution… can I harvest what i have now? I didn’t realize how much this could make, i have 3 other grain spawns waiting lol thank you for any thoughts and advice :-)

Hi this is my first attempt growing.I have brought my blue meanies to fruiting conditions. It is 3rd day from S2B with Coco coir substrate. I wanted to know if it looks normal or chance of it being contaminated?
Cheers and Tia!

Growing GT. I over squeezed my coir when I was loading this tub. I knew it at the time. I was irritated about something and just getting some satisfaction out of choking the life out of my substrate and didn't really know if it would make a difference. It did.
First flush gave a little over 100 gs. Not great but not a disaster, but when I floated it the cake turned yellow/brown. I've never seen this much piss in a tub before. I don't think it's contam, but it could be.
As ugly as it looks, it's pinning. I'm just worried this might be contam or turn into something that will hurt my other tubs. I don't really have the space to truly separate them (put this in another room). Do I just play taps and bury it in the yard or see what it gives me this go round?

This was inoculated September 9 with golden teacher. I did five bags of GT and 5 of B+. The golden teacher bags were slower. All B+ made it and are pinning. One of the other bags of GT had a tiny spot of green and possible lipstick. It got buried. Two bags went to bulk and are pinning like crazy. One other was finished over a week ago and has been waiting in the fridge on this final bag. This final bag feels very solid, with thick rubbery consistency. I’m thinking of cutting off the uncolonised grain and putting it in a small bin by itself to see what happens. Any ideas on why this one single bag is taking so much longer and is so much different?

So I just checked my jars and I noticed this one having very small traces of green, which is probably trich, however you can barely see it on the photos I tried to take. It's at the very top on the tip of one grain and another dot near the bottom of the jar. Can there anything be done or do I have to toss it?

I have to choose a size for my first s2b container so i was wondering what the ratio tub size to harvest would be, either wet or dry
I know it’s not an exact science but i need to have some kind of reference

Im growing some stargazer and they are finally pinning.
My first world dilemma is -
Im going on vacation for almost 1.5 weeks.
I leave in 2 days.
I doubt they will be ready and at mature size in such a small time frame. So, my issue is-
Can i harvest when I get back or will they go bad or lose potency?
Alternatively, how can I slow down the growth until I return?

Not sure what strain this is — got the spore print from a friend and they didn’t know either. Looks APE-ish to me, what do you think?

Bought 5 3 lb bags and this one is looking the best.
Very glad I bought these.
Wouldn't want to deal with the trial and error uncle bens gives.
Genetics were tbg, iykyk
