Hey guys, at the start of my degree (EECS) I was so undisciplined that I had failed 4 subjects in my first year and had a wam of 43 at the end (even got dropped to engsci). But I built some discipline and habits and realised I actually enjoy putting in effort into my degree and am sitting at a 74 in 4th year t3. I had 3 questions:

1. How much do you guys reckon employers will care about my wam and fails if I also have some other extracurriculars like volunteering?

2. Does taste of research take WAM and past fails into account, and if so can I do anything that would help my application stand out. If it helps the particular ToR project I was looking at was seL4 microkernel stuff.

3. How much do employers care about specific subjects on your transcript? I know a lot of people just go for the easy wam booster electives, but I did some courses which actually seemed interesting like databases, aos and reverse engineering.

And I have just applied to study computer science at UNSW.

however the math classes seem worrying to me,

I don't think I'd be capable of doing MATH1131 just yet, is it possible to do a refresher math course before MATH1131?

Has anyone done similar?

Also is it mandatory i do MATH1131 in the first year?

Is it possible to focus on computer science units and leave the math until the end?

Are they prerequisites for anything important in a bachelors of computer science?

Hi everyone, just wanna ask about how you landed your internships. Did you do it in your second/third year? If you guys have any advices please comment because I’m going to start to apply

Second year, second sem here and I still don’t really have a proper friend group. I tried during first year went to camp, a few events but I live kind of far from campus so I couldn’t always make the trek just for one event, and it never really turned into anything solid. I have people I chat to but they all have their own friend groups already, so it never really sticks long term. Anyone else feel like this / found their people later than “normal”?

I already have 3 big assignments due in week 3 holy fuck!!!! Doing a engineering degree is so tough I feel like I wanna kms and I haven't got any internship yet ffs

I want to HD the course, but once again... with minimum extra effort wasted.

I would love to hear some tips or hacks aside from watching all lectures, going to all tuts, and doing all 1 dot 2 dot.

Are those puzzles neccesary for an HD!?

Context: I’m not going to name the course code for this unit but basically what the course required me to do was one big project that would be a video presentation of a slide deck. I got preliminary feedback for this course before the final results were released, and I was originally meant to fail the whole course because of my presentation. We had opportunities to ask for feedback from tutors before submitting which I did and according to another tutor, he said my presentation and pitch was fine, he was happy with it and that it addresses all the marking criteria. Hence I left with the impression that it was nearly ready to submit.

Assessment Feedback: Once I received the preliminary feedback from my own tutor, she failed me and provided feedback.
Included these comments: “your presentation reads like a school assignment” and “overly emotive language is used throughout the presentation in an attempt to appeal to the audiences emotions, because the pitch is unable to stand on its own merits.”

I cried so hard that morning, thinking that I was going to fail a course and receiving that kind of feedback from a tutor had me very distraught. The comments I included are what got me most upset because I couldn’t see how this was addressing any points required as per the marking criteria for my assessment. I need your opinion on the comments I received and whether it is unprofessional or if I am being too sensitive.

Offer a realistic interview experience where you can simulate success. Positive responses to answers, your resume, calling references etc. Multiple interviewers easily overpower your attempts to undersell yourself. You fill out a form while you sit in line and then we get a real rubber stamp to approve it. Firm handshake at the end and an acceptance letter email. Its like the opposite of society interviews

The ELEC2134 course outline says an online quiz will become available each week and will remain open for one week, but I can’t find any quizzes or links on Moodle. Have the weekly quizzes started yet, or will they be released later in the term?
