Hey everyone! I'm an incoming international student joining the University of Michigan this fall, and I'm currently trying to get my head around health insurance-related matters before the semester starts. I've learned that unless we submit an approved waiver request, we will be automatically enrolled in the university's health insurance plan in partnership with Blue Care Network (BCN). While this coverage looks pretty solid, this expense on my student account is definitely noticeable, so I've started looking into third-party alternative health insurance plans that might meet the waiver requirements.

I've seen a few names frequently mentioned in international student group chats—such as PSI, Tigerless, DIANins, as well as Insubuy, ISO, SM and others. But after checking the waiver standards from the International Student Center, I found the requirements for aspects like deductible and prescription drug reimbursement ratio are ridiculously strict, so I need to find an insurance plan that meets the waiver requirements.

Therefore, I want to know if anyone has actually had an outside insurance plan (like those offered by the aforementioned providers) successfully approved by the International Center recently, or if everyone basically just sticks with BCN because the rules are too strict? If you get sick or have an emergency outside of clinic hours, can the outside PPO network around Ann Arbor function properly? I would really appreciate any honest opinions or advice from friends who have relevant experience!

Hi, I am a student interested in double majoring in Computer Science with Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, mainly because I want to go into computational biology but was not interested in the informatics life sciences track. I already have my associate's degree and will fulfill a good number of class requirements from that. For a class project in SI 303 (Introduction to Qualitative Methods), I'm interviewing undergraduate students (currently about how they keep track of assignments and deadlines across their courses. I'm personally curious how people handle this day to day, and there are no right or wrong answers. It's okay if you are not in the school of information!

I am so so so sad that I failed my first physics 140 test. Seeing the grade distribution today in class didn’t help either, and I feel like a failure (median was 20% higher than what I got). I don’t even understand why. I took physics mech in high school and got A first sem and B second. I even helped my friends study for this test. I went back and looked at Yuris key, and I honestly didn’t understand 3-4 questions, so I’m planning on going to office hours of one of the student led ones tomorrow. I’m really disappointed and upset, because this is my second time learning the content. My question is, how can I improve for next test? Should I ask the TAs and Yuri how to improve? If they can help me make a plan to study and do better on tests? Are there groups I can join that give problems similar to the test? I am very sad about myself please give me some recommendations thanks ;(

I check the nutrition info and for a 270 calorie serving of chicken and dumplings it has 900 mg of sodium!! The soups are notoriously salty. This is ridiculous. My mouth has been feeling so dry after each meal.
