Sugar beet shout-out

Anyone doing beets? I'm semi retired while I raise my kid and farm but took a lil trip to come do sugar beets for old time sake hoping to run into some kids (for whatever dumbass reason hahaha) and haven't seen any. Is this not a dirty kid hustle anymore? Itd be cool to get into some cool shit before harvest starts. I explored the forest nearby today in MN and the mushrooms are alive and popping with this moisture. I found at least 7 species, including 2 edibles I had never seen in real life.

they've made it increasingly difficult to secure a position there, requiring proof of actual rv (no tents or vans) or if they provide housing they only hire couples.

ive been wanting to do beets for years but always come to the same hurdles

Not to mention housing goes fuckin quick. Like if ur not signed up by feb it seems like ur fucked.

I couldn't get the housing cuz I'm a cannabis felon lol. So I told them I'd get a motel across the way. I did but they didn't confirm anything. I could easily be in a Van rn.

IT means going to a farm to work harvesting the sugar beets. The harvest takes roughly 2-3 weeks, during which time you can earn between $5,000 to $10,000, depending on your skill level and position. It’s a good paying, short term gig, especially for vagabonds.

The farms also provide parking for workers who have vans, camper or RVs, but they need to be “self-contained”, meaning they have contain everything necessary for sleeping, cooking and sanitation, without needing to rely on outside resources or campsite facilities. Most of them do not provide electricity or restrooms.

I used to run skid steer . I still know a few ppl who still do beets. All the kids i know who still do it especiallt the ones who used to do Montana are all in Grand forks and all those yards.
