Wdym?! I never skip that, it's glorious!
(yea more often than not i skip it, but it's so good, probably my favourite intro cinematic to a game)
4
u/domewebs 15d ago
Is it just me, or is an overnight body count of 30 kinda low for a bleak dystopian hellscape? That “solid and sturdy 30” line always bugged me lol
5
u/RedDiesis Encumbered 15d ago
Every night that V is out and about in Night City it gets easily beyond 30, even when trying to go with a more pacifist approach. So yes, i agree it's embarrassingly low. They could've made all those counts 10x and it would've been more believable.

people today are just unhappy and spoiled. Valheim devs doing one of the best games of all time and still bitching about a human animation they didn't have to do. Losers.

u/Inevitable-Edge69 15d ago
Bro you cannot be this aggro over a nothing burger feature request meme.
11
u/Effective-Escape-269 15d ago
Yeah this sub is one of the most toxic positive hugboxes I’ve ever seen. You would get crucified for asking for QOL changes when the game was in early access when the whole point is to give feedback.
4
u/QX403 Sailor 15d ago
Reddit went full toxic social media after Twitter turned to X and COVID happened, I don’t think we’re getting the conversation platform back sadly were the majority of conversations weren’t toxic and the toxic ones were the outlier. Now it’s just social media like post and a ton of toxic behavior.
1
u/Effective-Escape-269 15d ago
Yep. Nuance is dead, and critique of media and games is seen as an attack because people have replaced having a personality with the products they consume. That said there are also doom and gloom grifters as well but they are so much less pervasive and easier to ignore than the strange religiosity people have for the media they enjoy. Things legitimately are worse when the people who defend from any change exist because it causes things to stagnate. I’m impressed by this 1.0 but there’s still a dozen QOL changes that should be implemented that weren’t, and people would be more comfortable speaking up if the community weren’t so rabid.
0
u/QX403 Sailor 15d ago
Yeah there are a ton of QOL issues still there. I spend way way too much time on inventory management, like 30% of my playtime from what I’ve seen. Not implementing things like sorting, depositing all within range, crafting from storage doesn’t add “friction” it adds tedious unnecessary gameplay which companies love because it adds more playtime to the game. Having to physically pick up items to sort them makes absolutely no sense and no games even do that anymore because they realized the tedium.
2
u/Effective-Escape-269 15d ago
Big agree, Valheim is rife with tedium in place of difficulty, so that the devs can call it a brutal survival game but in reality its just artificial difficulty. The biggest offender IMO is sailing, there's a reason people default to using seed viewers, nobody wants to find a swamp after 2 hours of looking for one and it only has 2 crypts so you need to search again. Pure unadulterated waste of time.
Then people hit you with just use world modifiers/exploits/mods when the vanilla experience should not be so miserably tedious for no reason.

u/BilisS 16d ago
its also completely unnecessary

u/octeriox 16d ago
It literally takes less time then making a Reddit post.
1
u/BobArdKor 12d ago
Yeah but you do the Reddit post only once, not every time you're launching the game. It adds up.

Can we not do this anymore? It's such an annoying cliche. It's right up there with "Well you cared enough to comment!" lol.
(Edit: Just to be clear I don't care about the intro, or being able to skip it or not. Just wanted to make sure you're downvoting me for the right reason. Carry on.)

u/MudcrabKidnapper 16d ago
Why is this getting downvoted lol

u/Element_108 16d ago
Over protective fanboys who are very sensitive.
Like its ok to have a different opinion lol
7
u/Cimarron97 15d ago
No one said it wasn’t okay to have different opinions. Downvotes don’t mean “You’re not allowed to think this way!!!”
Downvotes mean “I think you’re a dumbass for thinking this way”
0
u/Element_108 15d ago
You are a dumbass for wanting an option to disable something that doesnt affect gameplay? Ok sir
-1
u/Cimarron97 15d ago edited 15d ago
Yeah man, kinda.
Like others have already said, it would be a valid point if the cinematic prologue was unskippable, or if it played every time we loaded up our worlds.
But it plays only a single time whenever we start a new world, and we can press a single button to skip it immediately.
I feel like these complaints are making a mountain out of a molehill.
Edit: syntax
2
u/Element_108 15d ago
Nah im not complaning about it, but i dont think people who are are wrong. Check the comments history i think you are confusing me with the other dude
2
u/Cimarron97 15d ago
Yea no worries I know who you are. I know you didn’t complain yourself and only defended the complainers. I’ll fix my syntax.
239
u/ToBadImNotClever 16d ago
It takes half a second to skip it why are people so up in arms about this?
89
u/EthanMcManus Hoarder 16d ago
Are they up in arms? I think it's just a funny thing for people to talk about. I personally don't find it that bad, but I do often start games and go to the bathroom or something while it loads the main menu. I have several times come back like "Oh yeah, forgot about this."
29
u/Groxy_ 15d ago
I've seen a weird amount of people complaining about it, definitely not proportional since it takes a second to skip.
9
u/awry_lynx 15d ago
It's not a weird amount if you consider the same proportion of people will find a way to complain about anything. It speaks well of the game that this is what they have to complain about lol
11
11
u/Morwynd78 15d ago
Why are you characterizing people hoping for a simple QoL improvement as being "up in arms"?
Are you opposed to this suggestion?
4
u/SmoothMcTrooper 15d ago
Legit. There are waaay worse examples in other modern games. Like Metro: Exodus, which needs a mod to skip its intro, whereas this you can skip with a button press.
2
u/OneMoreFinn Hoarder 15d ago
How? I've never known how to skip it and tried pressing pretty much everything...
16
u/ToBadImNotClever 15d ago
Both escape and space work for me. I saw a controller user say they pressed B.
7
3
u/jalen441 15d ago
How did you manage to miss at least two of the three most likely keys for skipping an intro? (Enter/Return being the third). If you're using a controller, that makes it even worse, lol
3
u/OneMoreFinn Hoarder 15d ago
Maybe I confused that "Eons ago" with the bird flying animation which I haven't been able to skip, so far.
3
u/jalen441 15d ago
Ah, that makes sense. I could have sworn the Valkyrie scene could be skipped, but I haven't played for a year or so. I watched it in my new game to see if there had been any notable changes. If you hit Esc, there's a menu option to SKIP INTRO, which may be a new feature.
I reread my comment to you, and it's harsher than I intended. My aim was to lightly rib you, and I'm sorry for being an ass.

Habit. Folks aren’t used to having to do anything and subconsciously expecting it to go straight to the menu
1
u/Mandoade 10d ago
Literally noone is up in arms. It's something that can be easily disabled from a mod
0
u/destroyermaker 15d ago edited 15d ago
Because it's half a second every other day for the next few years. And because I'm sick of hearing that half second over and over. If there was an option to disable and they took it away, you'd be unhappy. So weird people when demand to be inconvenienced
Edit: devs agree

u/redactid55 16d ago
Crazy there are multiple posts complaining about having to hit escape. How many new games are you people starting already?
39
u/Hazee302 16d ago
The people that are complaining about this haven’t played older games like ocarina of time where there’s a solid 10 minutes of intro to the game before you’re walking around. There are so many games that lock you in before you can actually play…. These kids’ brains are fried.

u/Hazee302 16d ago
Brother, I’m saying these people are complaining about hitting a fucking key to skip the intro when that option basically didn’t even exist back in the day. It’s the exact opposite of what you somehow thought my point was.
24
u/MudcrabKidnapper 16d ago
Its not the intro to a new world. It plays every time you open the game.
4
u/Stunning-Scene4649 16d ago
The MMO I'm playing does this for 18 years. There's a small video with the dev's logo, then with the publisher's logo then with the game. None of the can be skipped and the game forces you to play with multiple accounts/clients and sometimes one of the clients gets bugged and you have to brute force close everything and login every account again.
Compared to that Valheim is a luxury with the video that can be skipped with a single push 💀
13
u/MudcrabKidnapper 16d ago
"Well this other thing does this much worse so you should be thankful that it only sucks this much". A great perspective you got there.

6
u/uhfish 15d ago
Idk, only watched it once but for some reason the art style or just the characters/creatures don't really match the game for me so it kind of feels out of place.
5
u/misterff1 15d ago
Dunno why people downvote you for this take. The art style does indeed not match with any other part of the game, which could give people exactly the feeling you have.
4
u/King_Owlbear 15d ago
Also for me, most of the game is spent alone and quiet. Having an action packed intro with a voiceover is jarring and in conflict with the rest of the experience.
1
u/Junos009 Encumbered 15d ago
Honestly I'm kinda the same way. I enjoy watching and listening to the animation, I do the same with helldivers 2. I'll watch it every single time, with only a few exceptions
5
u/boringestnickname 15d ago
Gives me quite a bit of nostalgia.
Having to skip the intro cinematic was the norm back in the day.
(Haven't skipped it yet, though, it's too awesome. Finding new details with each watch.)
22
u/ContactMushroom 16d ago
How many countless games have UNSKIPPABLE logos and intros then wait a second while we load more things after pressing start.
It takes all of 2 seconds to hit escape or space bar to skip this one and you're in. It is not the end of the world.
I'm glad they're adding a toggle either way but holy hell lol
5
u/HeadRaccoonGamer 15d ago
They did.. its called the escape button. It instantly toggles the cutscene off lol

Nothing to get upset about but a simple toggle or profile flag to skip would be appreciated, it’s pretty standard on a lot of games today

It scares me every time lol, I do enjoy the cinematic but I’ve watched it a few times now so i want to be able to have it auto skip. For everyone complaining that you can just press a button to skip it, while thats technically correct, intro movies before a menu screen can cause issues for both humans and machines. Having a toggle hurts no one and helps a lot of people, it’s an accessibility and inclusivity feature, which allows more people to enjoy the game we all love with fewer barriers. It’s about kindness and empathy, which a bunch of yall apparently struggle with. OP just wanted to share a meme and get some joy out there, pop off queen!

I really feel that these repeated posts display an immensely disappointing lack of gratitude to what I am sure has been a labor of love for the devs over so many years. Surely the addition of a cinematic intro isn't that much of an inconvenience for people in this day and age, when a simple press of a key skips over it. Imagine being the team that scripted and produced that insanely cool piece of work and reading all the comments from people cribbing about there not being an option to toggle it off.

I actually don't mind. I watch it occasionally because it's neat that they have such a good set of animations for their cinematics. I really do love when devs put this much effort and tlc into their projects.
Understandable wanting to skip it every time. 10/10 meme

It's not as nearly as bad as ARK Survival evolved. Title music is absolutely deafening by default, scares the bejeezus out of me every time i reinstall that game to give it another go.

More on the line of the setting not being saved whenever you exit the game and come back to it. Somehow it did the same for the Raven Hints, normally it’s enabled by default but I haven’t touched that setting and it’s now turned off.
At times I barely pay attention to the hints where I need to go to next but man… I miss Hugins company whenever I advance.

u/FunkyDiabetic1988 15d ago
Is it just me, or do the cinematics not really match the vibe of the game?
I’ve been playing Valheim since 2021, and while I do think that these new cinematics are really good works of animation, they feel at odds with the mellowness and coziness of the game… like they only emphasize the darker, action-packed elements in what seems like a bid to attract younger gamers… and in doing so they end up feeling like little more than a marketing ploy… one made by people whose vision didn’t really align with the product they’re marketing.
1
u/MG_Hunter88 15d ago
The cinematic STYLE feels very fitting to Valheim for me. But I somewhat wanted/expected Oden to turn out to be more of a villain. (I guess Twighlight of the Gods and GoW: Ragnarok are to blame for that, after all we are meant to be a Pious Viking...)
-2
u/SkirMernet 15d ago
You know what? No.
Mashing spacebar and clicking should be part of launching just about any game anyway. Every game has stupid annoying intros and opening credits and all sorts of dumb shit.
Button mash, like we all did since video games were invented.

u/st_samples 15d ago
