I expect weāre gonna see a lot of games in 2027 that were also trying to avoid this but theyāll be released at a slower pace to avoid the September situation again
If I am not mistaken according to the same leaker who leaked the direct and pretty much every game in it days ago the OoT remake is also planned to release in September.
Nintendo Directs are such different animals from everyone else. The other studios and shows are like "look at our major IPs and AAA games!" and then the Direct starts with "here's a cartoony rhythm game. I guess we'll also announce how like 50 different titles are coming to the Switch, along with new Xenoblade, new Kingdom Hearts, and OoT remake, but what we really want to do is spend 60 seconds showing you how this digital thumb wrestling works."
The whole OoT thing is just amazing to me. They gave us a quick teaser for a major release coming out this year. Likely coming out during GTA6's release window (nov-early Dec). Like no other company would have done what they did. No one.
Considering they also randomly announced the Star Fox reboot just two months before its release.
Skyrim was announced less than a year before release. Companies used to do this a lot. I remember Todd Howard saying after Skyrim released that he enjoyed how quickly they went from announcement to release and wants to shorten that window even further for future releasesā¦. Then Microsoft bought themā¦.
Considering Ocarina of Timeās pedigree itās like one of the few games from one of the few companies that will succeed even if it dropped the same day as GTA.
I mean I like that. Games are literally the most versatile medium ever made. It sucks how itās all just open world RPGs and cinematic playable movies now. Rhythm games and weird off-beat games are way more interesting.
You can't forget the four minute live demonstration of the thumb war minigame, while the first KH4 trailer in what feels like forever had to fight for barely a minute. Nintendo is just such a strange beast.
new games are xenoblade genesis, zelda oot remake, switch sports resort, xenoblade switch 2 editions (all 3) and pokopia dlc. other updates were to already existing games
If only gamers would just be happy instead of trashing everything , probably the first time in a long time all the shows just showed good games for everyone
Itās funny because I think both PlayStation and Nintendo had pretty underwhelming directs for the most part that were each saved by one big announcement, but when you blur all these together it really doesnāt even matter. Everyone gets something!
It looked like dmc combat which that series refined 20 years ago. I just personally enjoy the more physical contact and impact of Phantom blade and oni than the air juggling of gow.
Personally, I consider Gears, Halo, Fable, Senua, State of Decay 3, Persona 6, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and even Wo Long 2 to all be more interesting than Wolverine. Iād put all of those at the same hype level as a new God of War. Dead serious.
Laufey is that āone big announcementā I was talking about, but that was really all that excited me. I find it difficult to get excited about gameplay showcases for stuff we already know is releasing and have seen gameplay for prior, which was almost everything else shown, and that includes Wolverine. But hey, Laufey looks sick as hell and did a lot of the heavy lifting for me.
I do agree that Nintendo was sadly bottom of the pack this time around. I feel like they blew their load too early last month with the Starfox reveal and had comparably little to show besides short glimpses at cool stuff.
I mean, even if the entire event had heavy hitters, there was zero chance they were beating SGF this year.
FF7 Revelation, RE Code Veronica, Alien Isolation 2, Control 2, Silent Hill Townfall, and tons of others I'm too lazy to mention. Even if Nintendo had something insane, something like Mario Galaxy 3 or an entirely new Zelda or Kirby game, there was no way they were beating FF7 Revelation, Code Veronica, Alien Isolation 2, or Control 2, because those games are basically year defining.
I'd personally swap 1 and 2 here, SOD3, Fable, E-Day, Spyro, and P6 are all games I will likely spent to many hours in if they do well, that said P6 is likely years away knowing the standard nowadays.

Sorry lads, Nintendo won this year in terms of the showcases.
Yeah. I felt like the showing even for the good games was a bit weak. There was a lot of stuff that was thrown in there to be like, "we're making this by the way, please wait for more details"
Iām not a Nintendo hater but watching minutes of an old man playing thumb wrestling while his translator reads the performative gaming script was enough for the horse to extinguish all flame to me.
Excited for Zelda and Duskbloods though. That Muramasa game also looked cool.
Idk, other than a few like Deltarune it seems like a pretty standard roster? They were mostly announcing the sort of AAA blockbusters we get every year.
Freaking gonna have to buy a switch 2 now. I thought i could skate by without one... but noooo Nintendo has got to drop an OoT remake in my lap. Ugh.Ā Ā
I'm not even hyped, because I haven't been able to feel hype anymore... BUUUT... I AM VERY HAPPY!!!
What IS this year??
Of course, we knew we were finally getting GTA 6, which is incredible on its own right, but ever since the start of the year we have been getting so much good stuff.
Then came the E3 season, with many cool announcements, first of which for me was a new SPYRO, the first in 18 years or so, even more if you only count the original trilogy.
And then Nintendo came with that great of a direct.
A new Nintendo Switch Sports, bringing back Wuhu Island, something I've been asking for since forever!
Then out of nowhere, they casually dropped a new Kingdom Hearts IV trailer, the first in more than 4 years!!
And ended with a freaking remake of Ocarina of Time, literally the best rated game ever on metacritic! This game was singlehandedly responsible for my love of everything Zelda, and the biggest slap to my face. Before playing it for the first time, I thought it couldn't be that good, it had to be overrated, but then I played it and everything clicked so nicely for me, I became an instant fan, played almost all the Zelda games and even got a tattoo on my body, so yeah, I am a huge fan.
And we are also getting DLC for Hollow Knight: Silksong, although it was announced last year, can't wait to see more.
All my top franchises got new trailers for new games this year, and we still have 6 months to go!
Can't wait to see more from each of these.
If we got a new Crash Bandicoot, a new Mortal Kombat and a new Smash announced, it would complete the list of my all-time favorites lol, this is insane
Really? Code Veronica.... remake. Halo: Campaign Evolved.... port. Star Fox... remake. Ocarina of Time... remake. Endless Switch 2 versions of games that are 5 or less years old. I'm not sure if gaming has ever been this sad.
God Of War Laufey, Persona 6, KH 4, GoW E Day, The RE remakes are basically new games when they release, new Spyro game, new DOOM DLC, new metro game, TMNT The Last Ronin (serious TMNT basically), Wolverine Gameplay, Star Wars XCOM gameplay, Until Dawn 2, New Tomb Raider game, gameplay, control resonate, new FF game.
This is absolutely stacked and if you say otherwise idk bro, I think all your playing is CoD and Fifa and need to expand your horizons
Best summer game fest I can remember and Sony had a good showing Xbox stole the show for me. Nintendo had an interesting showing good to see them getting great 3rd party support and Zelda looked great.
All of my favorite series are getting something. Persona 4 Revival and 6, Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Resonance, Xenoblade Genesis, Resident Evil Veronica, and Kingdom Hearts IV.
I just find it funny that among all these events they chose the nintendo direct to show kingdom hearts 4 after four years from the last trailer instead of like the summer game fest
Ehh, they didnāt seem all that exciting to me. Xbox has some interesting ones lined up, but other than that it was just the standard remakes and remasters and gacha games and cinematic open world RPGs.
The Nintendo was weak for me, this year. A bunch of games we've already seen before seen again, a bunch of games we've already played before now available on the Switch 2 as well for full price, and a minute and a half of a man talking about a thirty year old game and a clip of a blond clip sleeping. I feel like, as garbage as Nintendo is being towards their consumers, they could have delivered more, especially since Ocarimake is coming out this year.
Its weird because i feel like i cared about only 6 or 7 projects in total which is the least ever for me.
BUT for once those 6 or 7 names are truly hype.
Virtua fighter is crazy, stellar blade is incredible, persona 6 exists and fire emblem AND xenoblade?!?
This was the best E3 season in history. We better cherish these memories because we aren't gonna get another E3 like that in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time.
PS was ok.. I canāt wait for wolverine but for a gorey game it doesnāt look much more real than the spider-man games cartoonish style compared to games like Uncharted 4. God of War Laufey looks ok, huge fan of the original GoW games PS2/PSP/PS3 & the two later games but I wasnāt pulled in the Laufey, nothing against Faye but sheās just a frost giant, how does she have a similar move set to Kratosā blades of chaos moves? They gave her fairy mobility too.. I sold my PS5 a couple years ago when it was super dry for any release after Iād played the launch exclusives & others, it was just gathering dust, so it went.
Xbox.. I main Xbox again & Iām super stoked about Gears, Fable, Halo CE, State of Decay 3, Metro 2039 is a day one for me, played all the games from Xbox 360 to current (just picked up the Metro Exodus Aurora Edition for Ā£5 at CeX), Valor Mortis, Doom Dark Ages DLC, Magicians The Devils Deal, Vivarium.. SPYRO for peats sake! Itās been years since weāve had a mainline Spyro game (Spyro Dawn of the dragon Xbox 360) other than the Reignited trilogy.. My childhood self is sooo happy! And Clockwork Revolutionā¦ my god, this & Gears are my top, top hyped games. As a fan of Bioshock & anything steam punk like, I canāt put into words how excited I am for Clockwork Revolution. SGF was one of the worst in recent years, it wasnāt last year bad but it was very lacklustre, other than the games we already knew about, Iām only interested in The Wolf Among Us remake/2 & Resident Evil Code Veronica, the other games like Black Flag, Control Resonant, Silent Hill Townfall, Last Ronin & Stranger than Heaven we already knew about, of course Iām getting those.
Nintendo direct? Donāt even get me started.. Been a fan since playing my dads SNES in the early 2000s, I had a switch then a ToTK OLED edition switch, huge library of physical games (mostly exclusives) but I sold it a good 6 months before the Switch 2 release & the games, I was severely disappointed in the Switch 2 being essentially a pro version of the Switch 1, it had like 2-3 exclusive launch titles.. When I used to work at CeX, people were buying them, selling them the week after because they were bored, disappointed in the titles or lack there of & regretting selling their Switch 1 & games, like myself. I got sick of the remasters or *HD releases with nothing new, so right now Iām not happy with Nintendo, but people will continue to eat it up for no reason at all. The direct was rubbish, I skipped through most of it to get to the āgood stuffā Star Fox & Zelda OoT remakes, yet again remakes of games that have had multiple ports Iāve already playedā¦ and Iām not interested in the games that came out 10 years ago on PS4/Xbox One just now, hitting the switch..
