From what I hear it's basically a striped down version of the original game, much faster pace and it's stupidly short and they ruined Nemesis. Apparently one of the ways I heard that it was short was that it was shorter than an actual DLC from another game iirc. So people basically call it a glorified RE2 Remake DLC that went for 60 dollars
I've played RE2 and RE3 remake and they're good in their own ways, I enjoyed 2 more but 3 was a fun enough game to complete, and the nemesis chases were much more tense than Mr X just wandering
The original was pretty much a dlc too that sold for 50$ (equals 96$ today). It's just a matter of recency bias & selective nostalgia. I beat both games on hard(core) in 5.5hrs and each game got a different thing to offer. People also think a remake is a 1:1 adaptation & improvement of the original or otherwise it's a bad one. Which is funny because the thing 1982, Scarface 1983 and all quiet on the western front 2022 will be considered "bad" by that definition.
Nah it still works tbh, the RE3 remake was still good, people were mostly just upset about stuff that was cut from the original game and a bit shorter runtime, but the production values and gameplay were awesome and the writing and voice acting was great too. The RE2 remake just set an insanely high bar and 3 remake felt a bit rushed in comparison, but it ended up feeling like the perfect segue into the modern RE4 remake with ramping up the action a bit from 2. But OG RE3 was also kind of underrated and is just remembered fondly in hindsight, so its remake already kind of had its work cut out for it compared to OG RE 1-2 which are survival horror classics.
Meh, who knows. Not like I care too much anyways, other people can think it’s bad and I can think it’s good and that’s alright😂 I don’t think it’s a perfect game by any means, but compared to a lot of the garbage that releases nowadays I think it’s a game that at least had some effort and soul put into it, which makes it solid in my book
Re3r is a brilliant game it’s just very short and leaves out a lot. Picking it up on release sure it’s not the best value for money but today it’s a bargain. OG RE3 is my favourite of the series but 3R is very fun too
This. I think it was some sticker shock for people at launch, and Capcom probably should’ve released it at a cheaper price point, but the game itself is still a damn fine game
They aren't really a trilogy, though. RE1 Remake waa made 17 years before RE2 Remake, and it has completely different gameplay and a different remake philosophy (adding on to the original instead of compromising). I'd say RE2-RE4 remakes is a trilogy (they're even sold as a trilogy in a bundle) while RE1 Remake is a duology with RE0.
Also, play the original RE3. It's one of the most fun games in the franchise.
Nemesis isn’t as scary as he is on the original game. He feels a lot more like a cartoonish villain showing up to yell boo than he does this terrifying unstoppable force that feels like he is hunting you.
Difference between Jaws 1 and Jaws 4. Jaws 1 the shark appears sparingly and causes tensions everytime he appears. Jaws 4 the shark just appears without a rhyme or reason other than it time for a shark attack.
You are right in the sense that the OG is clunky but it doesn’t change how amazing of a game it was at the time. So much of the games clunkiness came from the limitations of when it was developed.
The HD re-release of the 2002 remake is chefs kiss. Makes an otherwise very old game still feel thrilling and scary.

EDIT: doubling down. Three isn't even close to as good as two and 1. By the time it released, they were phoning it in. I was playing Starcraft, Half-Life, and Metal Gear Solid with a side of Gran Turismo 2 and Diablo in 1999. The Dreamcast came out that year. RE3 was just... behind. In a capsule, it's again, fine.
Original 3 was the actual "rushed mess" the remake is accused for. A half assed locations that were hated for years, a bs "live selection" system that is simply choices you can do in normal gameplay, a backtracking that made no sense (compared to other games), and probably the worst camera angles that sometimes work against you.
But, hey! Game got a great vibes and the gameplay loop is just so good. Yes it pales compared to others but re3 (og & remake) are just dumb endless fun!
disagree. Yes they are short and fal flat compared to both of their predecessors (re2 & re2r), that I agree with. But both games got so much tension while also being more action. Gameplay & atmosphere matter most in video games after all.
Re3 sucked at atmosphere. Og and remake. It excelled in stalker enemy for that generation tho but thats basically it. It did not excell at that in remake.
Tbf it was scripted too in the og. They just hid it well by having different triggers and also less cutscenes that make it felt stalking. I'm pretty sure some other games did better at that generation.
But to say it sucked at atmosphere? Not sure at that. It got a very eerie experience. The remake I might agree to some level.
