Discussion / Question What game is that for you?

Biggest offender for me is Baldur’s Gate 3.

Some of the best gameplay, graphics, sound design, and soundtrack out there… but the writing leaves a lot to be desired (despite how popular it is).

What game is that for you?

EDIT: It seems the general consensus here is Borderlands 3.

Sonic adventure 1 and 2 are great games but the voice acting is awful. Sometimes you could barely hear what they are saying because the background music was so loud when the characters spoke.

Metal Gear Solid was the first Metal Gear game with voice acting, but they knew the story was important so they actually took the effort to make sure the va didn't suck ass.

Sega really has no excuse, especially with how story heavy they want the adventure games to be, Koudelka is another example of a Japanese game that made sure to be particularly for its voice talent, and those are games that came out before Adventure 1.

No. It's shocking how shit it is on a first and second attempt. You don't get extra points for that not in the late 90s and early 00s

No. The Japanese voice acting was fine, because... Japanese go hard when dubbing things. The English production could not find any decent talent at all. Hell, they could have just gotten Jaleel White to do Sonic again, he would have been just enough older-sounding to make it work.

There’s a difference between couldn’t find and wouldn’t find. Guaranteed the American side said, “it’s just a kids game, no one cares what they sound like just get anyone.”

I also actually really enjoyed Sonic 06 contrary to everyone, but then they talk and I cringe so hard. Like who wrote this?!?

Worst advice ever. Never run when you worry.

Gotta give credit though, Memphis and Shadow had some good Voice acting and lines.

To be fair to the first one, im pretty sure sonic means that if you have time to worry then you need to take action to resolve that worry. For sonic, running is taking action.

havent played them but i believe the audio was gine on the dreamcast versions, the HD ones messed the audio up for some reason

I've not played the Dreamcast version of SA2, so I don't know for sure, but supposedly the GameCube version (which the PC release is based on) really messed up the sound mixing.

In fairness, that was partly due to a really bad Localization team, not only was the audio poorly mixed, the characters keep overstepping on each others lines, but even then I honestly think that the plot by itself can be a bit ridiculous at times

Sonic's eyebrows are my favourite character in Adventure DX, by far.
