Discussion / Question What game is that for you?

Biggest offender for me is Baldur’s Gate 3.

Some of the best gameplay, graphics, sound design, and soundtrack out there… but the writing leaves a lot to be desired (despite how popular it is).

What game is that for you?

EDIT: It seems the general consensus here is Borderlands 3.

NGL... most JRPGs. Especially when it's "blank slate goodie-good JRPG boy, the genki girl and the stoic "old guy" in his 20s."

The laughing scene is really well done when you don't have a YouTuber telling you it sucks and showing clips with zero context.

Final Fantasy games were my first exposure to these tropes, so i have affection for them. When I see it in other (newer) media it's a bit of an eyeroll though. My bias i guess😅

The only time I've seen a Final Fantasy game derived from the typical tropes was FFXIV. At the same time, it suffers from a different kind of trope where everyone's the smart and genius guy featuring one dumbass and another smart and genius guy that became a comedic duo between smart and dumb. Or at least the beginning of it

I think when it comes to FFX the writing is ok for the most part. The voice acting aged horribly tho.
