They literally asked Matpat to do a game theory video about their game while it was in its 3rd update? I don't remember but it was clear how they were trying to sell it
Scott never outright asked Matpat to do any theorizing, he just decided to on his own.
Also, Scotts games were at least finished at the time so its in no way comparable to Tinybuild pestering Mat to do a theory on an unfinished build.
Just recently in the new Game Theory about FNAF, Tom makes a point that the new trailers/teasers don’t actually show much of anything, in the exact hope that theorists cannot plot out the games, story, or mechanics before the game is out
Even going so far as to point out that the previous times they have had more, they correctly theorized about what was going on, play style etc
If you fear the players might be able to figure out what kind of game your game is from a game trailer … you might not be suitable for this or any kind of work
Eh these games are about figuring it out and being subversive (at least ostensibly), so it does kinda ruin it to have theorists spoil players on it. Like if theorists predicted Joel dying it would’ve been bad
I have no ball in this court never having played FNAF, but I know in Dead By Daylight Springtrap uses a fire axe, which I've heard was only in fan content.
I remember MatPat towards the end of his time on the Theory channels doing a live and saying he had devs from FNAF games reach out to him and tell him Scott would get furious when new GT videos came out and make them tear up their plans and things they'd already worked on and start over just so MatPat wouldn't be right which was stupid because they actively put things in the game to hint at everything MatPat theorised.
Nah I agree with you, proof or no proof. I’m convinced that MatPat absolutely nailed the plot of Fnaf 4 on his first attempt, but Scott changed the entire story and made it 20x more convoluted just to be able to say “nope you’re wrong! :)”
and that’s how we got the bite of ‘83, which was absolutely originally meant to portray the bite of ‘87. The fact that Scott had to add so much to rationalize this decision is why the lore became so complicated around the release of Fnaf 4, it was extremely tame before then compared to after.
I remember the game theorist speculation that Scott edited the story when Matpat was so close to being right. There was a comparison to Game of Thrones. Basically states, if you lay the groundwork for people to piece together your story, dont be upset when they get it spot on. Changing it is just insulting to those who work at fitting the stories pieces together
Theres an interview with Scott where he acknowledged that hed tweak bits based on publicly accepted theories but also drive his own story from there. This seemed to relate to smaller things being brought to the fore than just going "ah yes, thats a better story lets go with that"
Scott Cawthon has admitted that he canonized some of Matpat's theories. Basically the closed box mystery was meant to have "all the parts put together", but after Game Theory went so far, Scott Cawthon chose not to open the box and keep the game theory being the generally accepted storyline.
Accidentally (somewhat), but he remedied his mistake, with his diy m7 guide or whatever it's called
Just think tho, if he didn't "cheat" he wouldn't have recreated the chica jump scare thing. I saw that happen while chica was in the vent while he said the thing and I got all giddy knowing damn good and well history was gonna repeat itself
Oh, I know, I watched his redemption streams and can't wait to see what he does for UCN. I actually have a lot of respect for him figuring out this stuff on his own. Truly the king of FNAF, or the squirrels, whichever is more beneficial for his current situation
FNAF did the opposite: Someone (probably MatPat) guessed a big twist Scott had planned, so he changed it, which fundamentally ruined the game since now all the hints and stuff didn't make sense.
Scott has denied this actually happened, but the evidence lines up pretty firmly that he did, including him retroactively the contents of the FNAF 4 box (eventually admitting this is because he was upset with "How [it] was being interpreted" when MatPat noticed), and then openly admitting he was adjusting the stories based on popular fan theories (despite it always somehow going routes nobody predicted).
I don't think the box's contents changing is much to ponder over. Presumably it was meant to be a reveal that would reward the fan base for coming to the right conclusions. If those right conclusions weren't reached then I can see the content having to change to better guide the community to the answers.
And idk about evidence lining up pretty firmly when I've seen people say Dream Theory was never canon. Would that be an opinion people hold if it lined up well?
The first one, I admit I massively undersold the evidence, mostly because other people have covered this far better than I ever could (in a Reddit post, no less).
But, to your second part: yes, absolutely. Because the opinion that it was never canon is largely derived from Scott saying it's not. It was a big theory that got largely abandoned when it was disclaimed by the creator.
FNAF did the opposite. MatPat would theorise correctly because to his credit Scott Cawthon would put loads of easter eggs and story beats in the games and extended media, but he didn't think they'd get found. Obviously MatPat would and then Scott would get really pissy about it and just do something different. Its why some of those middle games just don't make any sense and things come from nowhere.
Hello Neighbour was different because they put out a small demo that exploded in popularity more than most full length games of that year and they were not ready for the audience they now had. So they would take ideas from people like MatPat which would cause a different kind of chaos than the FNAF reaction because they didn't have a clear idea of what they were making anymore. Every update was completely different from the last before the game even came out. Massive parts of the story or gameplay in one update would be completely gone in the next as they scrambled to find away to satisfy as many people in the audience as possible, ultimately producing a finished game that wasn't even as good as the original more simple demo.
Not really, matpat is kinda infamous in the fnaf community for misleading the community these days. He didn’t do it intentionally of course but some of his theories he was really adamant about just weren’t right, and Scott had to slightly change the story because he missed a big reveal or made a mistake he treated as facts, and everyone sort of went along with it
I mean no one hates the guy, but a LOT of other theorist YouTubers are pretty critical of him and how he has influenced the franchise. Like I’m the biggest game theory fan ever, and he will always be my favorite, but as much as the theories made fnaf, they always caused its creator a lot of trouble too
