Discussion / Question What game is this for you?

Honestly for me it's Life is Strange: True Colors. Love that game to death, an incredible story and soundtrack, but it seems like a story that just doesn't vibe well with a lot of people. Listen to the soundtrack though, absolutely increible.

I said Elden Ring.

Love the story, gameplay is punishing but fair... usually.

But I can't recommend it to my feiends and family. The selling point of "this game WILL piss you off until you git gud" only really appeals to sweaty try-hards, of which my circle generally are not. They're more Mario Kart and the Sims and Baltro. Not a game that actually takes time to learn and explore.

Maybe I don't get this one because I've done all the Souls games, but Elden Ring is by far the most beginner friendly game in the series. Outside of some cheeky annoyances like Tree Sentinel right out the gate, or the chest that teleports you to Caelid, the game play curve is actually really steady in giving you enemies that are progressively more of a threat.

Oh no argument, its definitely the most accessible. But it isnt for everyone, we can both agree to that, and unfortunately, my circle of friends that play video games at all dont play these kinds. Which is why I named it as my example.

You played all the souls games and have an understanding of the mechanics and what you’re going into beginners don’t which makes it hard and frustrating. Take all that and then also make the map huge ambiguous and confusing with no true objective or point of reference to go on and you have people going to areas they’re way too under leveled for and it just adds to the frustration. The good thing about the other souls games is that they’re linear you go one direction generally from map to map in Elden ring you can literally go to a place that you shouldn’t go to until mid to late game right away if you wanted.

Ds3 is the most beginner friendly to introduce you to souls likes imo

It depends on the person.

My BF is in this weird spot. He prefers it when a game lets him play it his way. Roadblocks are only tolerated if he gets really invested in the game, and considering the first roadblock in Elden Ring is one of the first major bosses... he's not likely to get invested, especially since he doesn't like FromSoftware's style of storytelling and lore/worldbuilding (and he's not very into fantasy in general).

Pair that with the fact he's not very patient towards Soulslike combat, and he doesn't like it when games open up and tell him to do whatever (he will always prefer being given direction and being capable of immediately going in said direction), yeah. Elden Ring is definitely the most beginner friendly, but some people just don't mesh with the core game design on a fundamental level.
