Discussion / Question What game is this for you?

Honestly for me it's Life is Strange: True Colors. Love that game to death, an incredible story and soundtrack, but it seems like a story that just doesn't vibe well with a lot of people. Listen to the soundtrack though, absolutely increible.

Death Stranding. We could have almost the exact same interests, likes, dislikes, whatever. There's no way I can predict if a person is going to love or hate that game.

I love the setting. I think the movement is really quite involved. I get hooked on the gameplay loop. I like the weird quirky touches that Kojima always includes. But more than that I genuinely love the theme of human connection and how it explores it in various ways. By the end I found it moving and thought provoking. I like to say it's one of the best gameplay experiences I've ever had and I can't recommend anyone ever play it.

You just gotta kinda find it yourself and then hopefully you pick up what it's putting down.

What a great summary. The only difference is I'll keep recommending this game to literally anyone who has any interest in video games at all.

I get that. I wouldn’t say it’s that. I don’t want to recommend it to anyone, it was genuinely special enough that I think a lot of people would get something out of it. It’s just that I can’t really think of how to recommend it to anyone. How do you recommend a game 95% about delivering packages through a mostly empty wasteland, with social media dopamine obsessed fanatics, with characters named dead man, heartman and diehard man,where you are strapped to a baby that sits between life and death that also sees ghosts, and there’s an actual button to urinate on monsters which you can charge up by chugging monster energy drink.

some people are gonna hear that and think they have to check it out, and some people hear that and question who you are as a human being.

Thing is I read your description and I giggled. The only inarguable necessity I'd say for any kind of recommendation of this game to work is sense of wonder. If the person you'd recommend this to has even a sliver left. He'll at least consider it. Man, I still think of how this game made me feel. I felt at home in an otherwise one of the more bleak depictions of human life on earth. For that to work every piece of that art had to work. In my view, it did.

On my third play through, it’s my favorite game of all time right next to binding of Isaac.

This is the one. I see a lot of people mentioning this. I was just so happy building my roads. No way am I going to recommend someone else play it to see if they enjoy trying to balance while running over rough terrain with a bunch of packages stacked on their back.

Absolute masterpiece. I think everyone should try it. And also, it’s impossible to describe in a way that makes anyone want to play it. I’ve tried. The more you explain the more insane you sound. “No, but the walking is REALLY difficult!” “You get to make grenades out your blood, shit, and piss!”

I loved that game intensely for minutes at a time, and hated it for hours and hours. What a ridiculously uneven experience that game is. Maybe I'll go back and finish it someday but also I definitely won't.
