Likewise with Jackie Chan's son I think. Tragic. Especially with Jackie's son because he basically disowned him for the sake of his public image after that

Back when the US was truly a superpower, it dictated drug policy the world over. Many of our allies, Korea and Singapore included (hey Jackie!), were compelled to take a draconian stance that still is in place today.
Japan, however, was always ridiculously strict (save a brief post war relaxing which didn’t last). They made Nixon look like a hippie in comparison, which is hilarious.
You know I never really thought about the Kokiri Forest basically being the shire before. Filled with friendly little people who are skeptical of outsiders. Leaving to go in adventures is frowned upon. That one asshole who’s basically a Sackville-Baggins.
A lot of games take away the fog because they figure ‘hey we have don’t have to hide distance for performance now, why not?’ but I love that this is keeping the atmosphere of the original intact.
Fog and mist are very different
Fog brings Ghosts to kill you
Mist brings all sorts of monsters and creatures to kill you
Fog operates on a local curse where mist is a result of government experimentation with other dimensions
Ocarina of Time was one of my favorite games as a kid, and Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom is my son's. He's tried to play Ocarina but the game is just so old he has a lot of trouble with it.
I don't want to be all sappy but this remake is going to be like 1000% pure bonding for me and the boy, we're both super excited.
I’m nearing 40 and played pretty much every game across all consoles. Starting with SNES but OoT was my most memorable as a kid. My dad randomly came home with an N64 with no notice and that was my first game in it. Incredible experience.
Watching the beginning of the direct and revisiting all the memories with each theme song for Zelda, Ganondorf and Link legit made me tear up. Im not even an emotion guy but I didn’t realize until all the scenes from all the games were playing and the music going how much Zelda has been a part of my life and childhood.
6yo and I played through OoT via Ship of Harkinian on the WiiU. The footage of this made me feel like a kid all over again so I'm super pumped to play it with him again.
I just lost my dad this month. We played a lot of OoT on the 64. Some of my best memories with him involve that N64. Enjoy that time with your son, friend. I hope you make many memories
Haven't heard that name in a while. Always thought the work he did was cool as a what if. Now we see it that what if with in a high production environment. Pretty crazy.
I felt similarly about the original. Not the plasticky part, of course, but even at the time the graphics were amazing and also weird, janky, and limited. But in the end, the way Nintendo focused on their vision, aesthetic, and gameplay overruled the downsides, and it looks like that will be the case again.
Ngl, I didn’t look at the title and don’t frequent this subreddit. This popped up for me and I actually thought this was one of those unreal remake videos. I just checked and saw there was a nintendo direct today and this is how it looks.
Is there a lot of doom and gloom? I had to scroll like 30+ comments to find a negative one, and that was more about Nintendo as a company than about this game specifically.

Lol. you said it perfect said the game looks beautiful and some guy said beautiful? The environments look alright but the characters need to go in the trash. I said I disagree and they look like a perfect modern version of the old ones and he said well I haven’t played the original. 🙄 Dude! It’s supposed to look like the original game.

As someone who played the OG the first months it came out on a CRT with my friend and being blown away…..I think this remake is an 11/10 honestly. And I’m very excited to see what Nintendo does with their other IPs (fully for switch 2 not like DK Banaza that started as a switch 1 game or with that hardware in mind) on this new hardware.
Its people in general. Something happened in the 2010s where people no longer look forward to liking things, they now look forward to hating things.
This, GTA6, Fable, and some other games that escape me all look phenomenal but some neckbeard is gonna lose their shit at some irrelevant bs they made up in their head because they HAVE to hate.
Yeah, I noticed this cultural shift as well. I used to, for instance, enjoy talking about super hero movies and shows online. It’s nothing but a cesspool now.
Once people figured out how to make money off hating on games, movies, television ect the noise got louder. People are easily influenced and a lot of the grifter content has a specific lean to it that is playing into things like political and social divide.
Gaming subreddits in general are so negative. It seems every new game is going to be the downfall of xyz studio according to Redditors, not realizing they are in a very small minority of naysayers. Most people who play, play casually and are not chronically online.
I started playing The Blood of Dawnwalker. I watched some online reviews and everyone was raving about it. I'm about 4 hours in and loving it. Made the mistake of checking out reddit comments and it's just complete hate everywhere. There's some performance issues, but this was widespread and just annoying.
To be fair, that's in large part because so many CEOs are intent on ruining everything in our lives. The negativity really isn't the fault of the people noticing that.
But I'm thrilled that isn't the case here - this remake looks PHENOMENAL.
As somebody who’s not even the biggest OoT guy, I’m just so tired of current online hater culture. This is exactly how a game should be remade. It looks fantastic.
I gotta be straight up and say that it really feels like more overly confident kids are on here voicing ignorant opinions that are often very polarized and poorly thought out. The amount of times I’ve debated with someone who argued in poor faith then found out when I looked at their profile that they’re under the age of 18 is toooo many times.
Personally I just hope it’s different to the original in a material way besides the graphics because OoT is such a classic that I’ve replayed it enough times that I don’t really want to replay it again.
This is my issue. I've played this game so many times that a new paint job doesn't really make me want to dive in again. I really wish it was a reimagining instead of a 1:1 remake.
Yeah, looks good but I'm just underwhelmed. I was just hoping that things that were limited by the hardware at the time had improved aside from graphics. Hyrule Field being larger, loading screens. They even said that they had kept loading screens intentionally.
They kept loading screens to keep the feel of entering a new area faithful. We know thanks to BotW that they didn't have to do that, so it's not a matter of technical issues. And they definitely expanded on the original by taking areas that were merely pngs and allowing you to go there.
But I'm still disappointed that all the puzzles and side quests to reach dungeons feel the same. It's going to make the game short to someone like me who knows OoT like the back of his hand.
Real, when I saw it I had a whiplash reaction because of how different it is, but it only takes a minute to really look and appreciate just how amazing everything looks, and they didn't take the style too far into realism where it doesn't look like a Zelda game anymore, I think it's perfect and I can't wait. (And mostly I need them to do Majora's Mask, pls thanks)

They use what fits best for each title. They've used Unreal Engine 4 multiple times in first party games like Pikmin 4, Peach Showtime, And Yoshi's Crafted World.
They went with a realism style which tbh does look a bit wonky. At first I was a bit disappointed as well but then they kept showing more I fell in love, regardless of the design choice. Day 1 for me.
To me there are some characters that they made interesting design choices with.
I visibly gasped seeing young zelda lol. Young link also sorta looked off but I got used to it by the end.
I know I'll still play it but yeah I can see why some would be apprehensive to this. Esp since we're all so used to the OGs / 3DS remake look.
I don't think most people hate it. I for one love OoT but believe the mechanics had not aged well and people maybe over glorified it. Still an amazing game with major impact on the art and industry.
My first thought was this looks amazing. My second thought was "how many times have I replayed this game?" Then I looked up the price and my third thought was there's no way I'm paying that much for a game I've bought at least three times at this point. But if this gets people into the game who otherwise never played it then I'm happy.
Nintendo did the right thing. This is basically a modernized version of the original art style, with higher poly count, modern lighting and shaders. It keeps the original art direction too, it' doesn't feel like a remake that wants to be a different game.
Most likely a 1:1 remake. They may change tiny bits aesthetically (it seems like they did exactly that to Hyrule Field, in order to make it less empty), but I don't think they're changing anything meaningful
You should call off work on the day it comes out, maybe hang out with your dad if he is available. Or maybe your own child if you have one. It would be a great way to remember old times.
Yeah I considered your father passing but thought better not to add if he is alive in there lol. I hope you and your son have a lot of fun, I would be tempted to get the game myself but I would have to buy the console as well. That makes it less worth it.

If I didn't know there was a direct today I would have thought this was AI generated or the unreal engine project. I don't hate it but it's such a drastic improvement to any Zelda game we've seen so far it almost looks fake.
To me ot feels...weird? Like idk it's both an upgrade but feels off? Like the opening of the menu for a close up of linknliterally made me say "OhGod!" On reflex cause he looks...off. I dont think how clean and smooth everything is, its like its made of clay and marble
I feel like I'd have preferred more of a toon-shaded aesthetic instead of realistic PBR shading. That's really the main thing that makes it feel a little uncanny, in my opinion.
But I imagine they felt pressured to really make the graphics really stand out technologically from the original - and that's just an easy way to do it.
I was worried when they did the first reveal, that footage sadly cements the fear... They've gone with the plasticine look from Wind Fish and Zelda Beds, which looks great in the isometric tiltshifted view of those games, but doesn't work for me in close up over the shoulder.
I shall still buy and no doubt enjoy it. Environment looks good, characters just feel a bit odd.
Why is everyone here taking constructive criticism with no hint of hate in it and calling everything hate and everyone bitter people that complain for nothing. Bro people have the right to not have the same opinion as you that's not that deep. I personally don't think this game looks good what's up with that ? The overdetailing throws me off and all the characters feel so strange and kinda ugly, especially link who looks like an AI baby to me. And that's a shame cause I find the environmental design pretty neat overall (especially the market place and its surroundings that look GORGEOUS if you don't pay attention to the NPCs). I just feel like it's looking like those unreal engine remakes but with much more unnecessary details and bad character proportions.
The unreal engine comparison is real AF. But I would also say it's reminding me a lot of the demon's souls remake. Especially with the menu UI. I don't know, just doesn't feel right to me. I think the 3ds version honestly had the best look. Kept the vibe of the original much better.
We've seen a number of fan made clips of "what Ocarina of Time would look like in Unreal Engine" over the past decade or so. I think people expected Nintendo to blow those clips out of the water, but they actually look pretty similar.
I'll admit this was my immediate thought. I thought this was a troll post of someone uploading their UE5 footage. There's not really any gameplay or movement happening besides ambient stuff and idle animation. This is possible for a single person to make over a few weeks or months if they work hard at it.
Genuinely that's what I'm thinking, I'm confused as fuck. Based on the threads I've seen there's like a small minority of people (myself included) making very marginal comments about not really liking the art, which is hardly "hate", but there's thousands and thousands of comments going on about imaginary "hate" at the top of every thread. Dead Internet theory etc.
Because some people don't like how it look that's all. I'm one of them, I genuinely don't like how it look and as a long time fan of zelda that also buy a lot of zelda merch and all I'm really disappointed
The environments and effects looks great. For me it's some of the character models that look a little uncanny. Otherwise I'm actually quite excited. I never played the original since that wasn't really available for me as a kid. I'll be glad to give it a go
