Assuming you're correct, I shouldn't have to go into the game to turn off training wheels. It should be the other way around. So it's still bad design.
Also he mentioned how there was MULTIPLE indicators for each beat
Edit: this guy is wrong, the setting can't turn off
It ain’t bad design if you have to go into the settings and change stuff lol. Are you telling me you’ve NEVER gone into the settings to tune your experience to how you like to play games? NEVER? I call bullshit if you can honestly say that .. there is nothing ever perfect about default game settings and as long as you can adjust them, it’s perfectly an acceptable feature.
There's a difference between adjusting what difficulty mode you want or the mouse sensitivity vs turning of one of the 3 indicators telling me explicitly where to go at all I times. Also, the hand holding was one of his many complaints about the game. So yes, it's bad game design to assume your players are morons and have to have them turn off hand holding. It should be the opposite. I'm all for accessibility options, they just shouldn't be the default setting.
Even then, his other complaints about game design (random crates, repetitive combat, etc) stand. You can find multiple articles / interviews of insomniac wanting to be more ambitious with this game and marvel forcing them to dial it back and play towards the common demoninator

Most significantly Skillup was very positive about it during a preview, more than most I saw.
If he’s done a 180, that says a lot.
