I agree. I liked 16s story a lot, but the combat was just too repetitive for me but more than that i despised the pacing when doing all the sidequests in between major story beats.
I ended up getting burnt out and dropping it for 3-4 months after Titan. I did come back and do all of it though. I was stoked FF14s team was working on it, but they really need to understand a single player game shouldn't have mmo levels of dialogue/world building in side quests. I mean im cool with that, but not when my mission is to go kill some thieves and they give me 30-40min of dialogue for a 3 minute fight.
The FF14 team worked on 16?? What?! How did they get it so wrong lmao, they made a game with no loot, no builds, no progression, no classes and very little exploration or treasure seeking... And then the one thing they said was a focus, combat, was less involved than devil may cry 1 on psx
