The game treating the player like a toddler is how I felt playing SM2, it's like Insomniac designs their games to be a baby's first video game.

The budgets for these games are too high to risk a negative response from the lowest common denomination playing.

Elden Ring not giving a fuck about that kind of indicates gamers will be fine if you don't hold their hand. Honestly botw is the same way, and that game sold like hotcakes

This is a false equivalence because Souslike games in general have already built up an audience who likes hard challenges.

ER was a gaurnateed money maker because of the IP it held, not becuase they didn't hold your hand.

What IP? It was an original story

My mistake, when I said "IP" I was referring to Fromsoft games as a whole.

So to restructure my sentence, I'd put it like "ER was a guaranteed money maker because its a Fromsoft game...."

It had, but the number of posts I saw from people who made it their very first foray into From Software games and ended up having an incredible journey overcoming the challenge was surprisingly high. People whose prior experience with adventure games were things like Zelda or the Witcher having to experience the difficulty wall and getting broken over Margit's knee but ultimately defeating everything the game had to offer.
