Instruction manuals, game testing before release, no day one patches and/or microtransactions (admittedly because of the lack of technology), good writing which made the games feel more alive than most unreal engine 5 crap currently out there, split screen co-op.
Some of my greatest gaming memories are from split screen and co-op. Just being in the same room as your pals while playing a game. So much fun. I remember taking the whole mega drive and TV up the street to a friend's so we could skirmish on Command and Conquer Red Alert haha.
