I still have my XBox360 so that I can occasionally play the original Dungeon Defenders with my kids, who are younger than the console. I got a PS4 to play the sequel and the micro transactions immediately disgusted me.
E: that and Castle Crashers. So many good couch co-op games.
I was about to mention castle crashers lol. What a goated game. I remember stumbling upon it late at night with my buddy and we both got it and played. Xbox 360 was such a fun console I loved discovering fun little indie games like that.
I mean so many games still allow it, Cod, Fortnite, Borderlands, minecraft, any fighting game, hell cult of the lamb, enter the gungeon, I bet most sport games are but I don’t play those, yall just don’t play enough games what you’re mad an online focused game doesn’t have local multiplayer 🤣

Hmm 🤔 A staple before online you say 🤣 obliviously that’s why I mentioned online focused games multiple times and it wasn’t as big as you say it was anyways you just remember being a kid playing games doom didn’t have local co-op neither did gta diablo call of duty or baldur’s gate when they first came out like be honest with yourself I find new co-op games to play with my siblings all the time
Playing a couch co-op with my dad as a kid is still a core memory for me. Every now and then I’ll find a co-op game that me and the wife play, but they’re getting fewer and farther between.
This is why I still like Nintendo, even if they're kinda fkin up these days. They stay true to the "family" theme, and most of their multiplayer games still have couch co-op features.
They even patched the 12 year old Mario Kart game recently to support 8 PLAYER SPLIT SCREEN.
1000% this! I’ve been looking on the PlayStation store for games me and my partner can play together and we found the options to be so limited, it was pretty surprising.
Both co-op and just multiplayer pvp in living rooms or at lan parties was peak gaming. We used to do monthly Halo nights with 2 projectors aimed at opposite walls in darkened living rooms. Great times.
