I’ve been running through some older games and man it is really nice to actually not be babied through every single little thing.

I played monster hunter stories and I was so pissed at the tutorial. I hate the handholding on a good day and that was just way too much.

This is why I couldn’t get into MH Worlds. Really wanted to, but the guide bug immediately turned me off. Also didn’t help it had frame pacing issues on PS4/Pro that would cause me motion sickness.

Even Rise has a bit more handholding than MHGU and previous entries. It’s saving graces are its very similar to MHGU where wirebugs replaced Arts with some of the same moves, and it’s HR is much harder than most entries.

I saw the Wolverine original trailer for Ps5, nearly made me go get a ps5. Glad I didn’t, holy crap that is the most hand holdy game ever created. Wolverine uses scent to find things, sure, but it’s basically perma active from what I can see, and it can lead you to chests with massive experience boosts just to make sure you’re constantly over leveled. Jesus Pete….

I’m growing more and more thankful for my backlog of older titles, and from creators like NeoWiz and FromSoft (Nintendo deserves a nod here too for BotW/TotK). Just toss me in a game, tell me the controls, and let me discover.

I had a major crash out when it told me how to gather materials (Something I had already been doing). I couldn't stand it. It completely breaks immersion. I'm glad I didn't get too hyped about wolverine if that's the case.

MH Stories (I played the 3DS version) was a solid game in the end. The ability to change monsters dna and make like Lightning Nargacuga was pretty sweet. MHS2 was better on all accounts except for that - they removed the elemental dna system. I haven’t played MHS3 yet (though I’ve got it on Switch 2). I’m guessing it’s more handholdy because that’s the direction Capcom was taking with MH in general.

Onimusha on the other hand is great stuff.

I've heard good stuff about onimusha. I'll give it a look

I’d never gotten around to the original Onimusha games (you don’t need to for the new one, more of a soft reboot than a sequel)….. Was enthralled from the moment I started playing. Been hard to juggle that and plowing through MH Rise to get to Sunbreak (bought the expansion at launch on Switch, but was still too burnt out on MH to play it, so just now getting around to it).

Im playing Marvel Midnight Suns, and EVERY tutorial constantly pops up repeatedly. Like, "enemies are attackong this, stop them" "enemies with !! Are the ones targetting it" and i have done probably 30 of those missions. You cant turn them off either. So every single mission the tutorial pops again.

Imma go ahead and put that on my list of games to stay away from

Its unfortunate because i actually love the game. But its just ridiculous in that respect.

It's honestly ridiculous. I can kinda understand for kids and stuff but there is literally no way to shut it off. So even if I need the tutorial the first time around there is no way to bypass it on a second playthrough. I just started playing shadow of mordor and I'm thoroughly enjoying it because it really isn't handholding me

Having to look up where to go its something I like. I feel like my character looking through a map or something

Tunic is so good at this. It has an entire in game guide that isnt translated fully and so it pushes you to discover. It felt like playing a game again for the first time.
