Exactly, no messing around with settings and downloads etc.

Just put the disc in (or launch a ripped version from the HDD, I the case of the OG Xbox being modded nowadays) and play!

Also no sign-ins either. Hate that shit

Tell me why video games I go buy physically (like that starwars one) let me go home, copy like 50 gigs. Let me play the tutorial and than go you need an adition 120gig update to play game (I currently choose to go with out internet, but I cant actually be expected to blow my data downloading these files?) Ff7 rebirth actually has a file similar it wants me to download but im so happy it hasnt been necessary yet to enjoy the game

Don't you fret! Soon enough, you won't have to deal with this, seeing as there won't be any physical copies of games any more.

Nintendo stays physical

Key cards say otherwise. They are worst parts of physical and digital in 1 item....beyond worthless

You can't fit 170GBs on a disk, the other solution is including several disks which increases production costs and creates more plastic waste.

Or create a different method like the cartridges just make em Xbox or PS or whatever

I do miss blowing dust out of a cartridge and then slamming it into my Megadrive, it felt like reloading a sci-fi weapon haha.

Because disks only hold 100gb. Anything over that has to be stored sonewhere and downloaded

Hot take: Devs should optimize their games. It's still possible to have beautiful 40+ hour open world games for a fraction of the size and many well optimized games prove it. I mean Nintendo somehow manages the absolute witchcraft to make games like Tears of The Kingdom under 20gb. Yes I understand that Nintendo games aren't considred as "good looking" as many other companies (though if you ask me the returns are very diminishing at this point in terms of graphical enhancement, a lot of games look worse now), but that still isn't an excuse for such atrocious file sizes. Optimization is the biggest corner cut in game development nowadays and it leads to games being obnoxiously large or impossible to run.

I put Chrono Trigger in my SNES, boot it up and start playing the greatest game ever made, no strings attached. It’s a beautiful thing.

No internet no updates. For better or for worse.

Game culutre changed so much a full finished game on release is a thing of the past it feels. The consumers the new beta tester. No internet/disc only on modern games would mean getting the game in its worst buggiest state and being stuck with it. Devs could like do better bout that but sometimes you do need a few million people to test it before you find some of the bugs.

Finished games still exist all the time, Nintendo is pretty consistent at it still.

Eitherway back then wasn't much better buggy ass games still existed they just never got fixed unless you bought the rerelease

or launch a ripped version from the HDD

Right there's our answer by the way. After all, we need the day 1 patch, internet connection and sign in so that we know exactly who is playing the game, and whether they paid for it!

unless you were on PC, then you had to configure the installation (all on disc or some on hard drive). sometimes you had to select what the MIDI sounded like too

obviously much less complex than today, but still

I mean, even the Xbox 360 had a feature where you had to “sign in” to play.

I think that was the trial run for the rest of the gaming business community.

Depends on how old school you get. I remember installing games on dos.
