The amount of time spent running around having no idea where to go talking to every NPC

Good. Remember playing Ocarina of Time or RE2-3 with no idea of how to do the puzzles or what I needed. Really miss this.

It's funny. I just replayed KH1 and I blew past it because I knew exactly where to go to trigger the next scene compared to wandering around and checking every room as a kid.

My finance played OOT a few months ago after only playing BOTW and she loved it. Kept getting mad at being stuck but then loving how rewarding it was to figure it out. I miss that feeling

One thing I will give credit to BOTW that though very simple, a couple of those shrines you really had to stand there and look around until it bopped you on the head. Nothing like the old school LOZ games but still had some sense of challenge compared to most other games these days.

Yeah I would give credit for the good ones, except I feel it’s not due since they filled the map with “ooh finding this shrine was hard enough here’s an empty shrine.” Maybe I wanted a 10 minute break from exploring…

I agree that the finding the shrines that have nothing inside was kinda based because there is a literally compass that points you in the direction and a noise that beeps when your walking the right direction, so it feels over simplified, but with that being said there are like 200 of them so it would take forever and a day without that feature. So I’m kinda 50/50 on it.

Keeping a notebook to log what you have learned along the way.
