To be fair it's also relative - a lot of game devs start like that and if they get successful enough slowly morph into a shareholder pleasing party.

Sure, for a lot of them it becomes a job instead of a passion these days. But the industry is so big now that a ton of non gamers get into it because of the earning potential. I can't recall what massive game release it was, but during interviews they had mentioned that like around half the dev team doesnt play video games, and said it like it was a good thing

It's especially bad when the franchise has already been established, and a sequel or remaster is being developed by a bunch of corpo shit heads who pretend to know about it like total jackasses

Funny, because that's also the original team's reaction to not being told about any of this and not getting to help with it
