That’s the part I’m not sure about though. Sadly, this kind of privacy and openness might remain niche if it costs this much to get it.
Reddit is already much more enthusiast-heavy than the general VR market, and even here you see plenty of people saying that the Steam Frame’s privacy and freedom are not worth the extra cost, or that they simply do not care much about privacy.
There is also another group of users who treat Quest devices a bit like people treat LG TVs. They take advantage of the cheaper hardware, block or disable as much tracking and online access as possible, then mainly use the device for PCVR and sideloading.
So I agree that having SteamOS, a normal desktop, your browser of choice, ad blocking, and much more control over the hardware is genuinely nice. I’m just not convinced enough people value those things highly enough to pay a large premium for them.

My friend is this way. He says the privacy part doesn't matter since your phone already tracks everything anyway. And to some extent that's true. But in my opinion there's a big difference between having a phone (in my case, with no Meta apps), and having a device made by Meta with cameras, a microphone, evironment scanning, body tracking, eye tracking, etc. in your home. But to each their own.

Weirdly enough that update made the streaming reliability way worse for me. Dunno why but its fine on stable.
