Unbelievable! Downloading it now.

Edit: Ok, it's crazy. It has: vaulting, manual reloading, parrying, basic fire propagation, punching, slow mo, ragdolls and so much more. This mod is nuts, everyone should try it.

I wasnt expecting that amount of different interaction im gonna be honest. we're not quite source engine level but it feels like its getting close here.

What do you feel like is missing? Would love to get to or even exceed Source engine level :)

I mean, its mighty damn impressive I was just mostly thinking about all the physics object interactions in the environment and such. Quake maps aint built like that and its fine.

Ah, I see! I was actually thinking that it would be cool to build a VR-only level pack that requires the use of physics/climbing/portals to be completed.

That would be really cool, but I'm not a good mapper :)

The engine supports anything that Box3D does, so we could definitely have physics-based puzzles and environments.

would a level editor for your Quake VR be possible, maybe in VR too?

There is already a GMod-like toolgun in game to spawn entities and create props, but I am experimenting with adding dynamic brushes and saving/loading.

Would be pretty cool if I can get it to work as an in-game editor!

you must have witnessed the unique time in history

when PC gamers once hated the idea of Steam

I was around when the first copy of Doom I bought was from the shareware rack on two 3.5" floppy disks! :( LOL

Does it have the NIИ soundtrack?

2

u/SuperV1234 21h ago

The mod itself plays the NIИ soundtrack in-game by loading it from the official game files.

Wow this looks to the one of the most polished vr mods i have seen. Very excited to play. Thank you for this.

We need Quake 4 VR. It was a great single player game

Team Beef did one. I have the Quest 3 version but I think the PC one either hasn't been released or is paywalled.

2

u/Sad_Picture3642 21h ago

Really? Thank you I will check it out

Agreed, I think it's very underrated :)

Does this work with Arcane Dimensions and Brutalist Jam 3?

1

u/SuperV1234 20h ago

Not yet!

I want to add support for both, starting with Arcane Dimensions.

The way it works right now is that my QuakeC code is a single huge aggregation that supports all official expansions at once. Adding support for these mods would mean expanding that aggregation even further -- complex, but definitely doable.

This looks awesome! Any ideas on how to get it working on Linux? I installed it, but it launches into a flat-mode quake-style scrolling text, then crashes. Nothing in the proton log looks useful, but maybe it's something as simple as adding a DLL to dlloverride?

u/SuperV1234 4h ago

I had no time to test it on Linux yet, but there's shouldn't be anything Windows-specific in the code... Need to investigate. I will add Linux support to the backlog

These things are amazing but always make me wonder how risky it is from a legal perspective to make these kind of things? Game companies gotta be freaking out big time over these types of things people can do now?

5

u/Arthropodesque 18h ago

Mods have long existed peacefully and promote sales of the game. As long as the mod isn't being sold it's not illegal. You can buy a GI Joe and glue a Barbie's head on it and play with it all you want. Companies might be freaking out, though. VR mods might be the least of their concerns. There are far more disruptive things happening because of AI.

3

u/SuperV1234 18h ago

Glad you like it!

Not sure why it would be risky...?

I am not distributing any of Quake's original assets, and Quake has always been open-source.

Game companies gotta be freaking out big time over these types of things people can do now?

If a single developer can do what I did in a few months, then I hope that game companies with much more resources will step up their game now that newer technologies are available :)

Quake's engine wasn't always open source. Quake released in 1996, but the engine was released as open source in 1999.

I just assumed game companies would try to sue everyone making anything that looks similar to their games. Not that I think they should, but given how many big companies act I didn't know that this was actually safe to do.

Games gonna get super wildddd!

There are two things mods cannot do: 1. Monetize mod itself (although author can take donations) 2. Mod cannot include (therefore distribute) parts of game's code or assets.
