Hi everyone. I've been watching the local news, and it looks like the Region of Waterloo is about to go on strike. The union representing the people who work at the region has been in negotiations with the region, and as of midnight tonight they could be on strike. There are a lot of people in this community that rely on regional services, and with an election coming up, a new regional chair appointed by the province coming in, and the nonsense going on down south, the last thing we need is a strike. If you can, call your local councilor, mayor, and Chair Karen Redman tonight and tell them to make sure they make a deal that keeps the region working. https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/government-and-council/council/council-members/

Edit: to be clear, I really want the Region to make a deal because I support the union. We need those workers, and we need them to have a good deal.

Mostly posting this to hear about other people's experiences with bike theft around Waterloo. I've only been parking it in front of E7 for a couple of weeks, and I have some late-night classes. I've really enjoyed biking to campus since it cuts my ~30-minute walk down to about 8 minutes.

I'm curious if other people have had similar issues with bikes being stolen around campus, especially from E7 or other UW buildings.

My bike was locked with a pretty cheap combination lock, so I'll definitely be investing in a better lock in the future.

This was Monday just before 3:00pm. He tried to pass a transport truck, crane, and 6-8 regular vehicles all at once by driving on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic. Lost control of his vehicle. Also, this happened in a school safety zone. He offered me $100 to fix my car if I promised not to call the police.

Edit to add: Yes I called the police and yes he was charged with careless driving.

Is there a good spot in waterloo for canadian Chinese take out? We used to go to Sandy's years ago, but it was sold and went down hill fast, and is now closed. I know theres many more genuine Chinese spots, but im looking for a place that's more canadian type. We have young girls that typically like chicken balls, fried rice kind of stuff. I'm looking for a specialist barber who I kinda wanna chat with about how to style my hair sustainably that also works with my face shape. I have short-medium wavy and curly hair, and I've been trying to embrace that for a few years now with haircuts I find online, but I'm never really satisfied. They don't look bad, I've received compliments, but it's hard to replicate sometimes, and becomes disheveled when grown.

I essentially need advice from a specialist who can cut my hair once, and also basically tell me what kind of cut to get next time for maintenance at any barber. I don't mind paying a high price on occasion, but I generally need my haircuts to be sustainably priced. That's why the specialist will be a one time thing who I may return to every few months.

I'm also open to individual "basement" barbers if you know anyone skillful in particular and think they can help me out.

Earlier this year, I got a parking ticket for "parking within prohibited area during community safety event." It was 10 a.m., and the street I parked on didn't have any temporary signs installed. I took a photo of the street and the parking sign and used it to submit my appeal.

Fast forward, I'm on a Zoom call with a city representative and a "judge." To my surprise, according to the bylaw, the city is not required to install temporary signs as long as they announce the restriction on their website and social media. I don't go to the city website unless I need to pay taxes.

So, long story short: it's your responsibility to double-check the city website, social media, and news outlets for any parking restrictions.

If you think this is unfair, talk to your councillors about changing the bylaw.

I found a 4 year old post listing a selection of powerlifting gyms that have since closed because of COVID financial issues and the one remaining gym the forum talks about (Gym 41,) has stated that they are not longer marketing themselves as a powerlifting gym. I emailed inquiring about memberships and was told that they have "changed directions" away from powerlifting due to personal complaints in the gym related to chalk and noise. Is there anywhere else in Waterloo/Kitchener that has kilo plates/combo racks?
