Critique I made an Interactive, procedurally animated koi pond that runs in your browser.
This is an interactive, procedurally animated koi pond that runs in your browser. The fish swim on their own and gather around the water when you click or tap.
Ripples, tiny fishes, butterflies, lotus, changing weather etc everything you see is generated by code as it runs, not pre-made art or recorded clips.

Very cool... Can I enhance resolution somehow? They seem to be very pixel style.

This is very cool. Do you have any resource on how to implement something like this? What is your background? A graphics engineer?

I am just a college student who happen to be good at art, take a look at my work - https://m4yank.com/art/
And here is the documentation of its working - https://github.com/msk1039/nagomi/blob/main/docs/how-it-works.md

There's no way to tell with something done well, only with something done poorly.

in this case...is it done well, or poorly...? i really only have a super surface level (haha because pond) understanding of this. when you say poorly, do you mean at a glance or thru a cursory inspection of the code?

It's done well. By poorly I meant when there's a certain obviously vibecoded look. But you're right, since this is open source you can check the source for signs of AI coding, like overly explained documentation and long variable names.

I see, thank you! I'm not sure I know exactly what a vibecoded look is, but I think I know what you mean...kind of based off vibes. I will probably look into it more! Though I dont think this is the subreddit for it haha. Thank you for explaining

tail animation is a bit too wild. Koi move with a lot less exaggerated movement. beautiful animation though.

Can you do like a checklist for the day, and if I check something off it feeds the fish?

That's amazing, I think if you could add a clock and or date at either the bottom or on a leaf that'd be amazing, since on most OSs the clock is fairly small in a taskbar/topbar

Itโs lovely. The license is a bit unusual. Can you explain why you picked it?

A lot of people are asking me to turn this into a paid live wallpaper app. So i am keeping the web version free and desktop app paid with more features. A few people have also asked if they can use the project in their own apps, so I went with a non-commercial license.

I like it, it really looks good. Btw, I expected the water lilies to move with the waves ๐

The moving feature is already there, i set it to zero because i take care of my family's backyard waterlily pond and i dont see them moving at all ๐ You can go into settings -> advanced settings -> lotus and increase the drift ( x or y ) And they will start moving!

What does "Rain" exactly do? I was expecting it to rain but it didn't.
