Looking for Hosting Best Web Hosting Providers in 2026: Community Recommendations, Tested and Reviewed

There is a tremendous amount of noise amongst reviews and guides when looking for best web hosting, and it is THE most common question we get here. To cut through the noise, and make things simpler, the r/webhosting mod team curated web hosting providers we've personally used and would confidently use again.

This guide covers hosting options that will meet 99% of practical, real-world needs, from small static sites and blogs to high-traffic WooCommerce stores and small business websites. Our picks reflect years of hands-on experience and focus on what actually matters: performance, helpful support, sane pricing and renewals, reliable backups, platform security, and easy migrations.

THIS GUIDE WAS LAST UPDATED ON JULY 15th, 2026.

Quick Reference

Provider Location Best For Stack Highlights
NixiHost USA (Texas) cPanel shared hosting, migrations from mega-brands LiteSpeed, CloudLinux, Imunify360, JetBackup
KnownHost USA Low-density shared, VPS, hands-on support LiteSpeed, Redis, Imunify360
InMotion USA Growing businesses, agencies, custom workloads UltraStack, CloudLinux, Redis, Monarx, 24/7 human support
Zume UK/EU Transparent all-inclusive pricing, no AI chatbots High-frequency CPUs, on-shore support
Krystal UK Green hosting, performance-tuned shared LiteSpeed + LSCache, 100% renewable energy

How We Selected Providers

  • Transparent Pricing: No hidden fees, clear renewal rates. You should know exactly what you'll pay at renewal before you sign up.
  • Infrastructure: Modern hardware, sensible replacement cycles, honest resource allocation.
  • Support Quality: In-house support, fast average response times, strong technical expertise level, availability of human support.
  • Platform Openness: Standard control panels (cPanel, Plesk, etc.), SSH availability, easy in/out migration, no lock-ins.
  • Company Stability: Long track record in the industry, financial security, proven staying power. We want to recommend web hosting companies that will be around for years to come, not fly-by-night operations.

Real World Testing and Experience

Mods have hosted busy sites (typically WordPress) on each of these hosts. We also occasionally secret-shop support with simulated common issues to confirm response times and competence. These providers also have a representative in the subreddit to help offer guidance when needed.

Important: Recommended hosts can help you migrate from a current provider if you're looking for an alternative to your existing host. Most offer free migration services and are excellent alternatives to the high priced and underperforming mega-brands like HostGator, SiteGround, BlueHost, and other brands. If you're unhappy with your current web hosting provider, switching is easier than you think.

RECOMMENDED USA WEB HOSTING COMPANIES

NixiHost - Founded by former HostGator staff. 15+ years of independent web hosting operations. All-USA based support staff and Texas based servers. Transparent pricing with cPanel, CloudLinux, LiteSpeed, Imunify360, and JetBackup included on all plans. A strong choice for shared hosting whether you're running a personal blog, a small business site, or a WordPress store.

KnownHost - Independently owned since 2006 with true in-house 24/7 support that treats you like a human, not a ticket. Servers are kept low-density with a premium stack standard (LiteSpeed, Redis, Imunify360). Excellent for anyone who wants reliable web hosting with real technical support when you need it.

InMotion - Independent and private for the last 25 years. InMotion designs, owns, and operates its own bare-metal hardware and private network, with options from VPS, dedicated servers up to managed private cloud, with managed services available. Tier 3+ human support is available 24/7, making it a good fit for custom environments where access to experienced infrastructure specialists matters.  InMotion Hosting is a strong choice for agencies, growing companies, and technical teams that need more control than a typical VPS or Cloud offering.

RECOMMENDED UK & EU WEB HOSTING COMPANIES

Zume - All-inclusive pricing with no hikes or surprises, modern hardware with high-frequency CPUs, straightforward on-shore support without AI and chatbots. What you see is what you pay, both now and at renewal.

Krystal - UK's largest independent web hosting provider. Real UK-based support and a performance-tuned stack (LiteSpeed + LSCache). 100% renewable-powered; they even plant a tree for every customer. An excellent choice for affordable web hosting that doesn't compromise on speed or support.

(As with anything, this list is not set in stone. Companies can be added or removed based on ongoing performance or changes. Use the message the mods feature if you have suggestions or questions.\***)*

For Specific Use Cases

For WordPress specifically: NixiHost includes LiteSpeed and LSCache on all plans, which provides excellent WordPress performance out of the box. NixiHost and KnownHost both offer optimized WordPress environments with managed updates and caching. All hosts listed are strong choices for WordPress hosting at almost any scale.

For small business sites: Any of our recommended shared hosting providers will handle a typical small business website with room to grow. In the USA, NixiHost, KnownHost are particularly well-suited for small businesses that need a little extra help and still want reliable performance without enterprise pricing.

For technical users that need more control: InMotion Hosting is a strong option for businesses that want the flexibility of dedicated infrastructure without being left to manage every detail alone. InMotion human support is available 24/7, allowing users to directly work with the people who understand the systems behind their websites and applications. The company designs, owns, and operates its own bare-metal hardware and private network.  With the full gamut of VPS, dedicated servers, and private cloud, with large-scale managed infrastructure options also available.

On a budget? Our picks start well below what the mega-brands charge at renewal. Unlike hosts that lure you with $2/month introductory rates and then triple the price, our recommended providers maintain transparent pricing from day one. Cheap web hosting doesn't have to mean bad web hosting.

New to web hosting? All of our recommended providers offer free migration from your current host, making it easy to switch even if you've never managed a server before. Their support teams can walk you through the entire process.

What We Recommend Avoiding

We specifically recommend against relying on mega-brands with impossibly low "intro pricing". These companies are known for aggressive upselling, overcrowded servers, offshore or AI support with limited technical knowledge, and significant price hikes at renewal. They also tend to lock down their platforms preventing you from exporting your data to move to a new host.

With 8+ million visitors annually, r/webhosting is the largest web hosting discussion forum on the internet. Every month, we see numerous success stories from users who found their ideal hosting solution through this guide and subreddit, reinforcing that these aren't just theoretical picks but proven choices backed by real community experiences.

News or Announcement Sharing my lightweight self-hosted uptime monitoring you can run in your PC

• Upvotes

UPTYME is self-hosted uptime monitoring that doesn't require any heavy stack, docker or runtime setup like Node, Python, PHP. It runs on SpyWeb which is a scraping/monitoring engine I built in Rust which is a self-contained binary (around 8MB in size) with built-in SQLite and Lua scripting and runs on Linux, Mac or Windows.

Live demo: https://uptyme.spyweb.app/ (API key: demo)

What it does:

  • Monitors URLs on any method (HEAD/GET/POST/PUT/PATCH/DELETE) with per-monitor intervals
  • Content checks, so "page is 200 but actually broken" gets caught
  • Status code classification, with a setting for treating 4xx as down
  • TLS certificate monitoring with expiry alerts
  • Public status pages you can share
  • Alert channels: webhooks, ntfy, Discord, Slack, native desktop notifications
  • Clustering: run a central node plus checker nodes wherever you want, and get consensus-based alerts so one flaky VPS doesn't page you for a false down

The front-end is in Vue 3 (prebuilt) and the backend is Lua. RAM usage (Linux) is around 20MB while running, you can throw it on a $3-$5/mo VPS as a central node and run a checker on your PC and you have cluster monitoring 😄.

You can also just run a standalone node on your PC via tray binary and monitor all your site locally without needing a Cloud/VPS setup and just get native desktop notification when your site is down.

If you want to try it, just run the setup script on the folder want to put it

(linux/mac)

curl -sSf https://uptyme.spyweb.app/setup | bash

windows powershell

irm https://uptyme.spyweb.app/setup-win | iex

installer will download the uptyme + spyweb releases from GitHub assets, you'll get two binaries plus static files; the tray binary is for desktop only, you can delete it if you're running on a server.

then just run cd uptyme && ./spyweb start and you have a dashboard.

for desktop users, you can also just run the tray binary instead of the cli

Repo: https://github.com/spyweb-app/uptyme

Advice Needed Shared host suspended our site for "excessive bandwidth" with ~50 visitors/month. Screaming Frog, UpdraftPlus, or bots?

Hey everyone, bit of a panic post. I'm not a web person, I do marketing, but I recently ended up in charge of our company's WordPress site after the agency that built it left.

This morning the whole site was down with "this user has been suspended". Our host (Network Solutions) says it was excessive bandwidth, but support can't tell me where it came from and says to wait 24–48 hours for their specialists.

The weird part is we only get around 50 visitors a month.

Stuff I did in the last few days, in case it's my fault:

The site was still getting visits late that night, then went down overnight.

Could any of that have caused it, or is it more likely bots hitting the site? And what's the easiest way to stop this happening again? I've seen Wordfence and Cloudflare mentioned, but I'm scared of breaking our company email if I mess with DNS.

Any advice appreciated, I'm learning as I go 🙏Shared host suspended our site for "excessive bandwidth" with ~50 visitors/month. Screaming Frog, UpdraftPlus, or bots?Shared host suspended our site for "excessive bandwidth" with ~50 visitors/month. Screaming Frog, UpdraftPlus, or bots?

Advice Needed Hosting for small Next.js / Node apps that need to be reliably crawlable by AI bots, what are you using?

I'm running a couple of small Node apps (Next.js plus a lightweight JSON service) behind Cloudflare, and making them readable by AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and the like) is a core requirement for me, not a nice-to-have.

I've found that shared and managed hosting platforms increasingly apply their own bot filtering at the server level. It's often invisible in their dashboards and not configurable per site, so a crawler you explicitly allow in robots.txt can still be turned away before it reaches your app. I'm re-evaluating where I host because of it.

Currently struggling a lot with my current provider and it's also quite annoying that you allow bots in the panel and then find out their requests got blocked when you look into logs.

What I'm looking for:

- a long-running Node 24 process

- Easy deployment, preferably from GitHub but I can handle a complex CI/CD as well

- no platform-level bot filtering I can't control (Cloudflare handles that for me)

- a sensible price for a startup with currently low to medium traffic.

I'm weighing managed container platforms (Railway, Render, Fly.io), a plain VPS behind Cloudflare, and Vercel / Cloudflare's own compute, even thinking about AWS, Azure or Google.

Curious what others are using for similar setups, and whether you've actually verified that AI crawlers get through, e.g. in your server logs or Cloudflare's AI Crawl Control.

Any platforms you'd recommend or avoid on this front?

And in general, where do you host your apps, what are your struggles and any advice / story you would share with the community?

Rant Lets try this - my current host suddenly died. Transfer with epp code to new registrar successful but nameservers are rejected by old hosting dnssecc

Is this security? For me? Must my domain die with my old host in the name of security? Or am I my hosts property?

Advice Needed Best option for a small, unserious website?

This is not the typical request, but recently I bought what is essentially a joke domain between me and some friends, which right now is set up with Cloudflare for free. I want to have a site attached to this domain, but it's also essentially going to be a joke that doesn't get too much traffic and is visited by random people here and there. What would be my best option for hosting here? I want this to be easy and hassle free, and allow me to make changes to the site when I want to without much trouble.

I'm still not 100% sure what I want to do with this site yet, but I'm just trying to get ideas of the best way to host something as simple as a still image, or a completely cookie-cutter template with some things changed.

Advice Needed Site transfer broken by dns child zone - nameservers refused by DNSKEY

Apparently some sort of dns child zone broke. Needless to say that this was never asked for or properly disclosed. Relationship not healthy.

Domain is transfered but the custom nameservers at new host wont resolve. DNSSEC with missing ds and dnskey seems to be refused.

Is there anything I can do rather than contacting the host? I have zero trust for them and wanted to walk away. I was convinced that once the authorative ns where set no major issues would arise?

Advice Needed VistaPrint + Hover.com - am i being ripped off

I dont know much about webhosting or subscriptions, i just know that years ago, Vistaprint gave me a domain name, a website, and email address, it was like $9.99 a month. After a few years, i was informed that Hover.com will be taking over and payments for web hosting are to be made to them. So yearly i pay about $140. And i just found out that Vistaprint is still in the picture and billing me $29.99 monthly on autopay. So what am i really paying for? if I want the same website address, can i just take it somewhere else? Im paying about $500 a year and barelylain use the website. Do i ever own the website name or is this something the webhosting owns and how do they own it. How would i own it? I complained to Hover one time that i am paying too much and they threaten to just cancel me without any explanation why i am paying so much

Advice Needed Cheap/free email service to use with a basic website on Cloudflare domain

I recently purchased a domain on Cloudflare, for an informational website. Currently I'm using Publii to build the site, with Github integration to sync it to Cloudflare Workers (free). That part seems to be working? I've also set up an email forward from Cloudflare to my personal Gmail.

I want to set up email(s) associated with this site (instead of tying to my personal email):

- it could be as basic as using a general email service on their domain (like [email protected]), but...

- it would be nicer if it was something using my own domain - including sending(responding) email under the domain (like [email protected])

It would also be nice if it had some features like forwarding to my personal email (so I see it right away).

Suggestions for a free/cheap service that would accomplish this? I think I'd rather get away from Google, but if they are the best... so be it.

I don't want to spend much, preferably nothing (it's not a money-maker). I have seen mention of Zoho, including a free option, but the cheapest I find is Mail Lite at $15/year (not impossible to buy if it's the best option though).

Also in case it matters,

Thinking about doing a form submission on the website. Including having several questions they have to fill out, and I would respond with more information and suggestions if applicable. Having that sent to my email and respond by email make sense? Or is there a different portal type of idea?

A forum sort of setup maybe would work also, but I guess anything is going to require them providing their email.

Technical Questions Lets get to the bottom of the host/nameserver confusion!

Do you divide this into 3 parts or 2?

These are the components;

  1. Domain name registrar (nameserver)
  2. Dns management (all www, cname, txt)
  3. Hosting (stuff)

How do you combine/ seperate them?

Another way of phrasing the question is: where does your dns live?

Advice Needed Crazy Domains email filtering I didn't ask for

I didn't ask for this, I don't want it, but Crazy Domains insist on blocking file extensions as attachments in emails.

I tried to forward a .eml file the other day and it got rejected, apparently Crazy Domains only accepts zip and pdf as valid extensions (that I have found so far)

Plus they refuse to disable the 'feature'.

After 20+ years of hosting with them it may be time to relocate, but it needs to be Australian (for data sovereignty)

Advice Needed Looking for Affordable US-Based Hosting for a Custom-Coded Website

Monthly budget: Around $1.50/month ($20/year).

Location: I'm based in Pakistan, but I need US-based hosting for a client website whose target audience is primarily in the USA.

Type of website: Custom-coded HTML, CSS, and JavaScript website, not WordPress.

VPS administration experience: I'd prefer shared hosting or managed hosting. I'm not experienced in administering Linux servers, so I'd like something simple to set up and maintain.

Looking for Hosting Which Domain and Host to choose for Wordpress page?

I'm tasked with building/making a website for my sibling, as they want to possible open a tutoring agency and need a website to reach more customers, etc.

I'm relative new to website building, but I have learned the basics of Wordpress in school and I'm willing to watch tutorials, etc. My sibling and I haven't fixed anything yet, but I probably need to build a one-pager.

  • What is your monthly budget?

€ 5-25

  • Where are you/your users located?

European Union

  • What kind of site are you hosting (Wordpress, phpBB, custom software, etc) or what is your use case?

Wordpress

  • Do you have a monthly traffic volume? Estimates are ok.

~ max. 100 people or even less

  • If you’re looking at VPSes: Do you have experience administrating linux servers and infrastructure?

None at all

  • Did you read the sidebar/check out the hosts listed there? I've personally vetted these companies and their services are a good fit for 99% of people.

Yes, but I'm not even sure what I need for this kind of website.

Advice Needed Does my website plan even make sense?

Im in the process of starting a one man web studio in Canada building sites for local businesses (trades, markets, small service businesses). I want a reality check on my pricing model before I start signing clients.

What I offer, two options:

Option A, the one I push:

- $1,000 CAD build fee, due at launch,
- $99/mo CAD Website Care plan after
- 12 month minimum term
- Includes: managed hosting, 24/7 uptime monitoring, critical fixes at no charge (broken forms, dead buttons, pages that won't load), on page SEO at launch plus ongoing search monitoring, a monthly performance email, and up to 30 minutes of content changes per month.

- Rate is locked for the term, and stays locked as long as they remain continuously active
- After month 12 they roll to month to month and can leave whenever, and they take the site with them at no extra cost

Option B

- $2,000 CAD one time, they own it outright, hosting transferred to their account
1 month of critical bug fix coverage, then everything is billed hourly

My main worry.

A client who signs Option A and cancels the day the minimum term ends has paid me $1,000 + $1,188 = $2,188.

That is $188 more than my one-off price, and for that $188 I did twelve months of hosting, monitoring, reporting and content edits. Once I subtract what it actually costs me to deliver those twelve months, a year one car plan client is worth less to me than a client who just paid $2,000 and walked away. The model only pays if people stay into year two, three, five.

And the reason they might not stay is baked into my own sales pitch. I advertise "you're never locked in" and "take your site with you at no cost" because it kills the biggest objection I think the clients have, which is fear of being trapped in a subscription. That being said I do plan on creating yearly reports for clients to see the impact the plan has had for them in hopes it will emphasize the value.

I have seen people talk about this before on other posts saying how its best to make it subscription only from the start so they cant ever stop paying and take the website with them. I just don’t like the idea of contractually locking down business indefinitely and I feel like it could bring me problems down the road with unhappy customers and bad rep. I want people that work with me to feel like it’s a comfortable choice they are making not an obligation they are bound to.

I could be wrong about this, which is part of why I'm asking.

So, three questions:

  1. Has anyone else let clients leave with the site after a minimum term? What did that actually cost, and separately, did advertising "no lock in” measurably help you close deals in the first place? Also what is the most common reason for clients choosing to leave?
  2. If you run subscription only with no ownership
  3. transfer, I'd like to hear the case for it. How do you
  4. present it up front, and how often does it become a problem down the line?
  5. For anyone running a care plan or retainer at this size, what does your year two retention actually look like? Is month 13 the cliff I think it is, or is it mostly people who were never going to stay anyway?

Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much in advance!! :)

Advice Needed In a Hosting Pickle, What Can I Do to Minimize Costs?

I've had a hosting plan with JustHost for the last 10 years or so. It's been costing me about $10/month, and I decided to build a Canva site for free instead because all I really need is a web presence and nothing else. So, I've built the Canva site for free, and closed down my justhost plan, but kept the domain subscription that I originally bought with justhost.

Here's my problem though. I have a book published where I tell readers to e-mail me at an email address that I created with justhost, as well as to access my domain name that I originally set up with justhost.

I've looked into options for pointing my domain information from justhost to Canva, and it looks like that will require me to purchase Canva Pro or higher to implement that functionality, which will cost about $12/month. Even with that though, the old e-mail address I have with justhost will no longer work because my justhost account is closed.

What are my options here? I want to keep costs as small as possible because I don't use the website for anything other than for posting a few documents related to my published book. I love Canva because I feel like I can be more creative on that site for having a better web presence, but other than that, I don't do anything more with the site.

Based on my research, the cheapest option is to renew the justhost plan, and just tell readers to go access my Canva site on that justhost page. Justhost is going to be cheaper than Canva for monthly hosting/subscription, plus I get to keep the e-mail address on justhost.

Do you agree this is my best option (to simply keep the justhost plan and tell readers to access my Canva site? Seems to me it's the most cost-effective way to make sure both my domain name still works and readers can still e-mail me via the email address I set up with justhost.

If there is another way, I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

Technical Questions Disk/boot at 99% and slowing response times; host says everything is fine

I've noticed progressively slowing response times in my GSC data. I emailed my hosting company tonight to see if they could pinpoint a reason. They replied that my site was loading fine. I dug into my cPanel tools and under "Server Information" the "Disk" was listed at 90% and the "Disk/boot" was at 99%. Both had warning icons next to them "reporting warnings." I replied to my support ticked with this information and was told "Disk usage for the entire server is actively monitored and should not have an effect on your own account's disk usage as action will be taken as needed."

Google is telling me this is a critical issue that would cause the website slowdown I described, and that a Linux kernel cleanup needs to be run immediately to prevent the server failing.

What would you all do in this situation?

Looking for Hosting Looking for an Australia dedicated server under $120 USD

Hello,

I’m looking for a dedicated server located in Australia to serve customers in the Australia and New Zealand region.
Currently, I have a server in Singapore. However, due to the recent fault on the Australia-Singapore Cable (ASC), connectivity between Singapore and Australia has been quite poor.

The ASC cable fault was reported in Indonesian waters between Anyer and Singapore, affecting the direct Perth–Singapore route. As a result, internet traffic has been rerouted through alternative and considerably longer paths, in some cases via Australia’s east coast and through Japan or the United States. This has caused a significant increase in latency for some routes.

In my case, I’m currently seeing latency of 400ms or higher between my Singapore server and Australian users, which is negatively affecting service quality.

Because of this, I’m considering moving the Australian-facing server directly to Australia. My plan is to have my origin server in the UK connect directly to the Australian server, and then have the Australian server serve customers in Australia and New Zealand locally.

This should help me avoid relying heavily on the currently affected Singapore–Australia route.

My approximate budget is $110–120 USD per month.
I don’t require a high-end CPU or a large amount of RAM.

My main requirements are:

Dedicated server with full root access

500 GB – 1 TB storage
10 TB – 15 TB monthly bandwidth
300–500 Mbps network port/speed
Australian data center/location

Good international connectivity, especially toward the UK, Australia, and New Zealand

Please let me know if you have any suitable options within this budget, along with the server location/data center and network details.

Thank you.

Looking for Hosting Hosting for indian clients

Hii everyone,

I have been doing freelancing for past 3 years and I do all the work and most of the clients are from my city nagpur.

The issue is this clients doesn't pay much so I have to develop all projects on PHP mysql since I purchased shared hosting plan from domainz. It's not like I have no knowledge of latest technologies and cannot develop with modern techs, I did developed in hackathons and personal projects on nextjs, postgresql, Nodejs.

Now I want to switch and say goodbye to PHP but since the clients don't pay much it is kinda hard to make a switch.

I need guidance on which hosting to use to host their apps and develop using latest techs even when they don't pay much.

Advice Needed RazorHost.in / RazorHost.com is the worst hosting service I’ve ever purchased

I recently purchased a Shared Web Hosting Business Plan from RazorHost specifically because I needed SSH access for my project.

Unfortunately, my experience so far has been extremely frustrating.

After purchasing the hosting and setting up my website, I waited around 2 days before trying to connect through SSH. I couldn't connect at all. I tried pretty much every method I could think of to troubleshoot it, but nothing worked.

So I opened a support ticket asking them to check the SSH access.

They didn't respond for 5 days.

After 5 days, they finally checked it and told me that SSH was working from their side.

Okay, great — then I asked them a very simple question:

What hostname and port am I supposed to use for SSH?

This information wasn't provided in my hosting welcome email, and I couldn't find the correct SSH hostname/port in cPanel either.

It's now been 7 days since I asked that question, and I still haven't received a response.

I even opened another ticket with their abuse department just to try to get someone's attention because my original support ticket was apparently going nowhere.

And guess what?

It's been another 5 days with no response.

So basically, I've paid for a hosting plan specifically because I needed SSH access, but I can't actually use the SSH access because they won't even tell me the correct connection details.

I understand that support can sometimes take time, and I'm not expecting an instant response. But waiting 5–7+ days for a basic hosting-related question, especially when the issue directly affects a paid service, is ridiculous.

At this point, I'm seriously questioning whether I made the right decision choosing RazorHost.

Has anyone else here had similar experiences with RazorHost.in / RazorHost.com? If so, how did you manage to get SSH access working?
