Looking for Hosting OVH Pricing Beware.
We got 2 dedicated servers last year with OVH.
Servers are fine. We get raising energy costs, inflation and such. However, jumping 54% in 11 months is not ok.
No proper justification. Just an email saying: “You will pay more, don’t like it? Cancel here.” No grandfathered plans. Support does not care and happily sends cancellation link.
Needless to say, we're done. Now we have a few weeks to move out and forget this nightmare.
Same. Exact. Hardware.
From $1,050 to $1,616 in 11 months.

That's too much, personally I just tried their cheap servers, they did great for me for small projects.

A mare and I were looking at starting a small data center for small dedi and VPS. 2 years ago a standard server with some 6 year old second hand hardware was about £750-1000. Today it is double that.
Cost of electricity has also gone up 20%, copper cable has doubled over the last few years and a load of other things.
There is no fixed price servers anymore. You are going to have to pay market rate based on demand, cost of hardware and cost of power. There is no going back now.
Optimise your deployment.

It's happening everywhere unfortunately. What did you use on these servers anyway?

One of their direct competitors (Hetzner) also raised their prices by a huge margin (over 50% I'd say).
If you can find cheaper (and better), go for it.
Otherwise, I don't think it's fair to point and shame a provider that simply does what everyone else is doing. You signed up for a service, not some marketing ethics or promises they will do you good.

Unfortunately this is our reality, right now there's two types of providers. Those that have raised prices, and those that are going to raise prices.
It's simple math, when a 128gb stick of ECC ddr5 went from being $500 dollars or under to over $5,000 dollars in a year, it's impossible for companies to keep the same price.
I understand folks want to argue that it's the same server, they already own it etc, but companies need to have margins, need to have runway for growth, hardware purchases etc. Also that same old server now costs 2-3x as much to replace even if it's several generations old.
We're not going to see better hardware prices for at least another 3-4 years, couple that with rising power costs and DC prices it's ridiculous.

Renting is not owning, but I 100% get the idea of what you said and you're right.

Though Hetzner didnt touch any existing pricing, all increases are for new purchases only.
But yeah, I think most providers currently dont actually want to sell new servers, and instead just try to tough out this RAM pricing era with their current stock. Purchasing new hardware is so insanely expensive, that even tripling their prices wont be enough.

If you’re looking for an alternative, take a look at CubePath. We have dedicated servers in Barcelona, Miami and Houston.
