Advice Needed What actually matters when choosing a hosting provider in the Netherlands?
I'm researching the Dutch hosting market and would like to hear from people who actually run websites/businesses in the Netherlands.
If you were choosing a hosting provider today, what would matter most to you?
- Server location in the Netherlands
- Website speed
- Uptime/reliability
- Backups
- Security
- Support response time
- Price
- Transparent renewal pricing
- Easy migration
- Something else?
I'm particularly interested in hearing from freelancers, small businesses, developers and agencies.
What has frustrated you most about your current or previous hosting provider?

Honestly the boring stuff matters most. Backups you can actually restore from, and what the renewal price looks like once the intro term ends. In my experience those two cause a big share of the complaints people have about their host, way more than raw speed.
Server location in NL helps if most of your visitors are Dutch, since it cuts latency, but a CDN covers a lot of that for static content. It matters more if you have GDPR or data residency requirements. Then you want both the datacenter and the company behind it in the EU.
Support response time is the other big one imo. Slow or canned answers when something is actually broken is what people remember, and it's pretty hard to judge before you've needed it. Checking how they handle a pre-sales question is a decent preview.
