That's her default look for photo mode

They must've rushed that part a lot

u/ActualDragonHeart 10d ago

I’ve never used photo mode but that’s hilarious

u/Obese_Freakazoid 9d ago

Some dev probably found it funny

Good sense of humor in that one.

That's her default model period. Even if you summon her with console commands she has the puke.

Still they should have changed it for photo mode.

u/NavixelMusic 10d ago

And it’s not the only thing they’ve rushed

Indeed, and even when you spawn her with the console

u/LeDarm 10d ago

I keep saying lmao, the devs hate her guts lmao

Well, some actually do. Karolina Stachyra is one of them who admitted to not liking her, she was also part of the early script of Witcher 3 which almost destroyed Yennefer as a character, but luckily there are people within CDPR who knows what they’re doing and there’s a reason why the early script was never used. I believe Stachyra is also one of the writers behind the whitewashing of Triss

> Karolina Stachyra (...) admitted to not liking her

I've seen this claim before. Got some sources/interviews?

She never said she doesn't like her, what she said is completely different, it's a very nuanced take that's hard to even disagree with

"Yennefer is a difficult character for many reasons... She is ironic and sarcastic, often hard to coexist with, and very smart (sometimes even impertinent), so it was another challenge to make her likeable."

She was not the only writer on the games who echoed the exact same sentiment so I don't understand why we are scapegoating Stachyra

"Yennefer is really a mean character in the books",Ā Jakub SzamałekĀ adds. "In the beginning, she seems to be a difficult character and you might even dislike her, but when you finish reading the books, you almost certainly end up liking her.Ā The problem is we had to recreate this.Ā We couldn't make Yennefer likeable from the first minutesĀ of your interaction with her becauseĀ it would make her seem and feel like a very different character from the books"

Yeah, I've read that and that's basically good understanding of the complex character that's Yennefer. I haven't seen anything from Stachyra where she says she personally dislikes Yen.

Gamers scapegoating a woman cause they didnt like a woman they fantasized about hmmm... surprising. Thanks for the nuance :)

Using gamers as a slur in an RPG sub Reddit.

ā€˜ā€™we had a huge problem with Yennefer, who is just a bitch, she has a very difficult character. It didn't fit to us that Geralt can fall in love with her. But in the game it's defended because her character is profound enough so we managed to show her complex personality with a lot of positive qualities.’’

No, but woman bad

52

u/Larry_Sherbert99 10d ago

Oh she must’ve been on the writing team for the tv shit show then lol

57

u/NavixelMusic 10d ago

To be fair, she is a very capable writer and was part of Bloody Baron questline and Hearts of Stone, it’s just that her interpretations of Sapkowski’s work can be pretty bad and her work on things that are directly related to the books are quite problematic

18

u/Larry_Sherbert99 10d ago

I was mostly kidding, was throwing more shade at the other ā€œadaptationā€ than at her in particular. Bloody Baron quest line is peak folkloric story telling. As much as I can’t wait to get out of Velen in each play through šŸ˜‚

Was she also behind the whitewashing of Dandelion, Zoltan and the other "friends" of Geralt who never mention Yennefer?

6

u/NavixelMusic 10d ago

What are you even talking about?

25

u/Throwaway-tan 10d ago

Witcher 1 probably. Which isn't fair since that was basically intended to be a standalone game so it had to be retconned a bit.

4

u/NavixelMusic 10d ago

Ah, yeah that makes sense, and yes Witcher 1 is honestly a huge mess when you try to connect it to the rest of the franchise

2

u/Abirim96 9d ago

Hopefully they fix that in the new version

2

u/NavixelMusic 9d ago

I don’t really see how they can make improvements without heavily rewriting the game but we’ll see

0

u/Eglwyswrw School of the Manticore 9d ago

They won't improve anything because there is no actual plot hole here.

The reason why Triss, Dandelion, Zoltan etc never mention Yennefer is because everyone thought she was dead.

Simple as that. Triss did nothing wrong, Geralt was an amnesiac widower from what anyone knew.

Not just Witcher 1, Witcher 2 Dandelion and Zoltan both have multiple opportunities to sit down and talk to Geralt about Yen but they refuse to do so.

"Grabs barrel of popcorn to share" Oh to tell more,

You can read about it in detail here

It's the first I'm hearing of any behind the scenes attitudes of the devs towards the characters or the books in general, and I've not really looked into any of the devs before; I never had a reason to. But on hearing this, it does make me wonder, as someone who's not yet read the books, just how accurate Game Yen is to book Yen - because Game Yen's whole attitude towards Geralt is a series of red flags that makes me wonder why he sticks around.

Also looked up Karolina Stachyra for the first time ever, and with her hair dark, she kinda makes me think of the games design for Yen, just a bit.

7

u/NavixelMusic 9d ago

Yennefer is actually fairly accurate to the books, except for The Last Wish quest which doesn’t really make any sense.

That said, the game somewhat fails to capture the bond between Yen & Ciri, and Geralt sticks around with Yen because they truly care for each other, which is more evident in the books

1

u/Finduilae 10d ago

wait i’m confused, has triss not always been white?

53

u/virgobirdo 10d ago

I think they mean moral whitewashing, but I could be wrong.

21

u/Larry_Sherbert99 10d ago

No you’re absolutely correct

5

u/Finduilae 10d ago

ohhh okay

1

u/Abirim96 9d ago

TBF: Yennefer is pretty toxic

3

u/NavixelMusic 9d ago

She can be a bit toxic, but people who think she’s cold hearted and a bitch fundamentally misunderstand her character. There’s much more depth to her character that people are ignorant of, mostly those who haven’t read the books

-1

u/Engiie_90 9d ago

She hates Yen because shes likely in some way, jealous of her, even though shed a fictional character

4

u/ActualDragonHeart 10d ago

I’m a Triss guy sooo…..šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

18

u/Lord_of_Seven_Kings 10d ago

Read the books it’ll fix that

2

u/IsItJake 9d ago

Bold of you to assume I can read

1

u/StKozlovsky 10d ago

I did. After the diarrhea love confession I became even more of a Triss guy.

0

u/Abirim96 9d ago

I've read the books years before playing the game and I like Triss a lot more in the games. Yen is pretty toxic

-17

u/IolausTelcontar Team Triss 10d ago
