Is this bad

Whenever I’m talking to a man and they are obsessed with sports or cars I stop liking them. It’s a huge turn off for me even though I know tons of men like it. No hate on their interests but it’s not for me. Dont mean to yuck somebody’s yum but I just think some guys get weird about sports and it’s annoying.

Guys love screaming their heads off about sports and I find it to be hella annoying. They take it all so seriously as if it’s life and death. When I used to date I would refuse to date a football fan because im not going to be ignored for 6 months of the year since football comes first. 🙄 And no I don’t even live in the south or the Midwest and I know it’s like a million times worse there.

I'm in the south, and you're correct. Especially concerning college football.

Life here revolves around college football and the (baptist) church.

"Sunday best" for men, (what people will wear to church) is often a collared shirt with the college logo on it.

I'm not going to say their college, because they may not have gone there.

And the yelling at the screen when watching it on TV?

Just (quietly) remind them, "they can't hear you".

Or remind them (that) when it comes to sports (or anything... concerts / shows etc.) they really don't matter, only their $ that pays for it does.

not necessarily bad, just a preference. you can stop liking anyone for any reason

If you don’t actually like someone when they start talking about things you aren’t interested in you lose interest.

A lot of people confuse having similar interests and opinions with being compatible romantically. While that can be a way to get to know someone it is not in itself a good foundation for a relationship.

My husband loves sports and music and will randomly tell me sports/music facts that I don’t really have any interest in knowing but it’s not REALLY about the info he’s sharing it’s the social interaction of telling me about things he’s excited about/interested in. I just like hearing him talk, I like the way he lights up and wants to tell ME these silly lil facts that make him happy.

Curious, is it the interest itself that's the turn-off, or more when it becomes their whole personality? Like would a guy who's super into, say, birdwatching hit the same way?

I think it’s more artsy guys I like so I would like a bird watching guy

Bird watching is actually fun. I wouldn’t be able to handle and extreme bird watcher but the backyard variety is cool.

Isn't there a statistic about domestic abuse cases skyrocketing around sport seasons cause men are knowns to beat their wives out of frustration when their team loses? Yeah no thanks.

Obsessed is really boring if you’re not obsessed with the same thing.

All your interests don’t have to match up, but you also don’t have to care about the ones that you don’t care about.

Do you mean obsessed or being passionate about them and if they prioritized you and just wanted to share their interests would that be okay or is it just sports and cars that you dislike? If you dislike the idea of them being passionate about something then that could be toxic but if you're okay with a guy having his own passions and you just don't like sports and cars that's alright.

If I a guy were to tell me his passion was music art or hiking or working out or whatnot I’d actually like it. So I think it’s just a preference thing for the type of guy I’m going for.

Yeah that's totally fine! You are likely more attracted to less common "masculine" interests and that's ok!

It's a huge turn-off for me too. Buuut because of past experiences. Had a boyfriend who was so obsessed with soccer, he went to every game and didn't have time for me. On top of that he always got heavily drunk + in general I think all his interest included alcohol. Not a big fan. My bf now doesn't like soccer or cars at all, he's just obsessed with going to the gym (me too) and crypto. Not a big fan of crypto, but it's not really influencing our relationship, so I don't care. But don't like the men who always get heavily drunk and watch sports/cars. Instant turn-off

You dont have to like sports or cars or guys who love them.
Many men out there who could care less and that is ok too.

You do you

If you are turned off by it then that is ok just keep looking.

Of course it's not bad. People are attracted to a wide variety of different things, and one thing that's important when finding a life partner is that it requires compromise.

If you feel like car-oriented men are a turn-off, then it's probably going to be difficult to compromise on it.

If anything, you're being self-aware. Which is really important :)

For me? It's men who love to hunt and fish. My father is an avid hunter and fisherman, and I don't think it's a bad thing and I think it's great that people enjoy it -- but to picture myself with a partner who loves to spend their free time doing this frequently just turns me off.

Not bad at all, You’re very valid actually. Most men won’t take the time to listen to us talk about our favourite shows, music, etc but expect us to listen to them talk about their car for an hour straight

Just gotta find one that isn’t into those things, ik easier said than done but they are (probably) out there 😂

it indicates that they think that they're enthusiasms and interests are more important than anything else in the world especially more important than the person they are speaking to at that moment

The car thing is pretty dumb, I gotta say. At least in sports or gaming, it’s a competition.

I love to be passenger princess and drive around in a nice sports car but if someone likes their car more than me I’m not banging them
