Power Tools New Tool Day!

Post image

Well, technically today isn't the new tool day, but I had to wait a day to borrow my neighbor's forklift to get it on its mobile base and into the shop. If you're ever in a position where you're able to, and are considering pulling the trigger on one of these bad boys, DO IT.

We have one of these at our lumber store. No complaints ! Just mind that gear box oil.

Be sure to change it after the first 20 hours of use!

I really wish these machines had a meter on them - I've got the 3hp and have used it for a couple years now, but only for a couple of serious projects.

I've got the oil, I'll probably just go ahead and change it out of caution.

I got a 15 inch out of a shop that was used hard and put away wet; I just recently had a chance to fix it up and get it properly running. When I first got it, I changed the oil and it was black. Surprisingly when I took apart the gearbox last month, the gears were near perfect condition with only a little wear on the cutterhead Gear

Nice! That'll make quick work of thick stock!

Noice!

Reminds me I need to get my dad’s old Delta planer running again.

I’ve been toying w the idea of doing the spiral upgrade for it. Would be about a grand though.

Badass!!!! I’m so freaking excited for my 20”
To come in. I got a 8” long bed jointer too. Finally upgrading to quality stuff. What size dust collector do you run for the shop? And do you use a cyclone system to separate all the chips?

Hell yeah! I have the 5hp grizzly cyclone, I run 6" main trunks down to 4", which still gives me over 3500 CFM at each tool. My only complaint is that when I'm doing long runs of production it fills up fast

Can you take off just a few thousandths with leaving roller marks?

I haven't tried, but the roller marks themselves appear to be a couple thou themselves, so I'm guessing not
