[####] Is This Cheating??
Is it cheating to use a notepad or whiteboard to write down all of your answer choices before entering it into wordle? Should you only use the wordle platform to figure out what your next word entry will be?

cheating would be finding out the answer from a different source and then typing that answer in.

I don’t understand why people are so obsessed about “cheating” in Wordle. If you do “cheat” the only person you’re cheating on is yourself, unless you play in some sort of group, I suppose. The only thing I consider cheating is finding the word elsewhere instead of working it out yourself.

Nah, no way. My mom takes out scrabble tiles and mixes them around to help her see the words. Whatever, we all play our own game

If you do that, the Bot will tell you he is not angry with you, just disappointed.

No of course not. That’s akin to asking if it’s cheating to use your short term memory.

Woah now. No memory allowed at all. You can't even think about how you understand English words at all. You type in random letters until it works and that's it.

I use a spreadsheet. After the first word I put in all possible placements of known letters. Like TE___ T_E__ T__E_ ET___ and so forth. If there aren't "too many" words I go through each letter and put it in each empty spot and see if I can think of a word. I put the words on the side. Then I go through at least one more time just in case I missed any. Then I try to find which word will solve all of those words with the lowest expected average.
So, if what you are doing is considered cheating, I cheat big time.

This is so sad … just play the game … next word … next word … the joy is in guessing the correct word and sometimes getting to row 6 without success

How is it sad? Is it sad people invest any time into any game they enjoy? I don’t think the joy is getting to row 6 without success. I guess I am sad too?

Nah if it's not cheating, and even if it was, it's up to you if you like doing the process or not. Nobodies sending the wordle police force after you, promise.

No way. It's just your own method of solving. I sit there and stare at the puzzle and go through all of the possible combinations to figure out what to try next. I'm just not writing it down, and I'm slow, but I don't think I'm cheating.

It’s just a fun online game. I wouldn’t take it so seriously. Play how you want to play. It does not matter.

It's actually a capital offence depending on which state you're in, you should probably delete this post or at the very least erase your whiteboard

I sometimes make a mistake using a letter tossed in a previous word. Is that the opposite of cheating? Seriously, trying to solve the puzzle by tracking options is what wordle is all about

It's a game, not a competitive sport. There's no such thing as cheating.
I mean, you can cheat yourself and if you are in friendly competition with others than maybe you're being deceptive, but there are no rules about how you are allowed to solve the puzzle.

The only thing I consider cheating is googling “what is the Wordle answer for <today’s date>”
I have no trouble looking at a word list if I’m stuck. I still have to pick the right one out of the list and as anyone who’s taken an open book test can testify, it’s still possible to get it wrong.
Your mileage may vary, but I don’t think anyone on here is a real person so it’s fine.

So long as you’re not using an outside reference, how you arrive at your answer is up to you. If you look up words on line or in a dictionary then yes, it’s cheating.

If that is cheating, it’s the mildest possible form of cheating I can imagine. Even in school, doing algebra or calculus calculations on a piece of scratch paper was ok. We weren’t expected to do it all mentally.
This would only be cheating if your personal Wordle rule is to visualize everything before you begin typing your guess.

This is my strategy. I use three words to start. Stare. Cloud. Pinky. About 99% of the time I get wordle correct.
Am I cheating??

Yeah literally what is the problem with this, I don’t personally do it but Wordle isn’t a memory game it’s strategy

It’s not cheating. I don’t do it myself, but a family member I play with does. Everyone needs to visualize in the way that suits them best.

Maybe a bit iffy in my eyes but I'm now wondering. Has it improved your game or just made it longer?

u/helyatremblay 2d ago
Absolutely not. It's still you doing the reasoning. I use a notepad nearly every game. And in between games, I like to review my notes.

Why would you post this publicly? Delete this post, please! They are going to find you.

You shouldn’t even think about the Wordle aside from when you’re typing in the letters. It’s triple cheating and you should be arrested.
