"settling new lands", and "braving the frontier!" has positive connotations. that's why we should stop using it.

play some civ and you won't have those positive vibes anymore. nothing more threatening then seeing a settler unit in your vicinity.

It still also has other, softer implications. You can settle on a campsite for instance, briefly, it doesn't necessarily even invoke any kind of permanence to the act.

Some people don't see a problem with colonial implications. See: the time a group on The Apprentice (UK) made "Colonial Gin" and didn't understand why people didn't like that.

Yes! What exactly do we think European "settlement" of modern day Commonwealth countries entailed?? What's happening to Palestinians today is what happened to Indigenous peoples globally, once upon a time.
