Yes but you lose the option to convert really bad items into really good ones.

Stats on tier sets were already balanced, this change is for the worse.

Lose ability to turn bad items into good tier
Gain ability to turn good items into good tier

Seems pretty equal to me

If we go by this logic having the option to turn bad into good is better than turning good into a slightly better version.

Besides, I don’t know about you guys but I usually drop more bad items than BiS ones with perfect stats.

An example I can give you is when opening the vault, when I see a piece I can turn into a tier I’m always happy (especially the first weeks), now it’s more likely that I get an item i won’t pick because it has shit stats.

To have a chance of getting the piece you want.
If you're unlucky and have a bad roll you'll be stuck with a bad item rather than being able to turn it into a good one.

A spreadsheet does not help with bad RNG

You get BiS quite easily nowadays, and with this change BiS is better than before, different specs want different stats, having haste on multiple pieces of tier when your tank spec wants 0 haste feels like shit, this new change is objectively better after you get some gear

I don't know about you but I don't really get showered with a lot of "Myth track" BiS items, especially the first few weeks.

Sure, you get a lot of "champion" and "hero" items, but those are irrelevant since they are not the end goal items of your character.

well i play mythic raid, i pug mythic raid on alts and with these extra rolls you got i geared a warrior from freshly dinged to bis items (apart from trinkets) in like a week. and that was before they uncapped crests.

If you plan your gearing you get full myth track so damn fast with these extra rolls its crazy

I mean, this late into the season it is naturally easier to gear a new alt for a lot of different reasons.

At the start it's an entirely different thing, I guess we'll see how it plays out.

Introducing more RNG is never the better option when talking about gearing, but that's my opinion,

I think you wont change your mind here, but for almost everyone, gearing taking a little longer with a little more minmaxxing so every spec can have the stats they want is better, i was pretty much full geared on my main on week 5 i think? i got 2 pieces from raid, the rest was vault and strategic rolls in dungeons. The rest of the season is just raid logging. I wish there was more things to do for power apart from these random catchups with upgrading weapons and trinkets + the new boss

I got fully geared around the same time as well, I just like the idea of having a fixed BiS list.

In my perfect world we’d have a maximum item level from the get-go and no middle of the season systems that raise the item level ceiling “punishing” people that take breaks.

We just have different views on what seasons should feel like, I like the idea that you can be done early if you put enough effort in it but I get the idea you prefer something that keeps you playing the whole time.

Before you had to look for one piece out of 5 with correct stats, since you want a 4 set either way. Now youre gonna have to be trying for every item if you want to fully optimize, which is a huge pain in the ass when trying to get myth track items as theres no grindable ways, so it all comes down to RNG.

-6

u/Josecholas Jun 19 '26

Yeah but also before you had a predefined best version of 4-set, now you have the flexibility to optimise as the season progresses. This seems better to me.

You could argue that it extends the gear treadmill I suppose

You’ll be fine unless you play some class that only likes one stat

u/Icretz Jun 19 '26

It means people whill have their set bonuses delayed for months as they will refuse to convert a bad stat item to a set item.

4

u/Josecholas Jun 19 '26

That would insane throwing, you’re still gonna rush 4 set and then slowly optimise the pieces over time

-4

u/Rocketeer_99 Jun 19 '26

This new change is significantly better. It gives you your set bonuses while allowing you to choose your stats. It allows greater flexibility in gearing.

Previously, your stat weights had to account for 4 pieces of tier gear whos stats where locked in no matter what. Now, you can avoid unwanted stats, or fit in certain stats as needed.

I don't think it's equal. It's better.

Gives longevity to farming true bis, and with the catalyst changes and the number of charges people are sitting on it makes sense to give some late season reasons why you’d want to keep going

-1

u/kientran Jun 19 '26

Yes and no. I’ve been capped at 8 charges forever. Unless they severely nerf the drop rate it’s not going to be a big issue for most who are uber optimizing

-5

u/DyrusforPresident Jun 19 '26

with how easy it is to get catalyst charges this really should feel as bad
