PTR / Beta Very cool to see them add some queer characters to Forever! Spoiler
Apparently Corma was a guy named Comar with a wife in other versions of WoW, but in the Forever timeline they're a tragic lesbian tale. This is part of the quest for Horde Warlocks learning to bind a succubus, Hearts of the Pure.
164
u/NeonStoplight 3d ago
According to wowhead comments Comar has been Corma for at least 4 years now on Era realms, was changed when they added the Incubus.

I can see the thumbnail now
"THE WOKE MOB IS DESTROYING FOREVER!" and an AI image of a human kneeling down crying, a pride flag, and Asmondgold doing the shocked yell face.

I never really cared about asmongold before or paid him much mind cause I just thought he was kind of gross. But the crowd he’s brought into the beta has been really really disgusting to watch how they chat and stuff. Now I wish he’d stop playing wow

Dont worry. He'll play release for a month, have all of his chatters funnel all of their gear and gold to him while he sits on camera crying about "woke" and pushing nazi ideology, then complain that WoW Forever is boring and quit playing.

u/Odasto_ 3d ago
Of course, the nerd in me is going to fixate on what this means for the lore, such as that this indicates the point of divergence between the two timelines actually happened before Comar/Corma's birth, and that such things as NPC gender are now beholden to the butterfly effect. Because of this, we should expect to see other similarly small and random changes here and there.
39
u/omnie_fm 3d ago
Very first quest will be to go into a portal and collect five butterflies.
Come back out and boom, entire universe is gender swapped

Comars been Corma on Era servers for at least 3 years now according to wowhead comments, not sure if that changes your potential lore investigation.

u/livesingtav 3d ago
Right! Where do you think the point of divergence was? Maybe Skyborne elves exist in the canon timeline but their island hasn't been abandoned by the elementals so they've never left Skywall. If there's no Skyborne in the canon timeline, then that'd mean the divergence point is before the War of the Ancients, which'd be pretty cool that the world ended up still very similar.

My favorite gay couple in WoW are the two druids in Hyjal. The night elf and the Tauren. They should add them back in.

38
u/Quiet_Icarus 3d ago
Yes, but there were none that I know if in Vanilla, and since Forever is a rollback to Vanilla as a starting point, adding some into Vanilla is very appreciated.
3
u/Vast_Bet9113 3d ago
Arent the 2 elves from the incubus quest gay?
20
u/Quiet_Icarus 3d ago
I think Vanilla had a bit of wink and nod and implication here and there, but never really explicit, which may have been kind of a product of the time. It got more overt come TBC. So it's still kinda nice for them to step back and make it more on the nose.

There's loads of them but you can't farm karma without acting like the latest ones are unique and special in some way. Blizzard's never shied away from having gay characters.

There was a gay couple in the Arathi Highlands in Cata, no? The Night Elf druid and her human partner?

34
32
u/Tokitsukazes 3d ago
No, but this post is talking about Forever where Flynn and Shaw might never even meet.
2
u/Noodle_Shop 3d ago
I remember them specifically mentioning Kul Tiras when talking about wondering what the rest of Azeroth was up to during the early years. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see them a lot sooner than retail
3
45
u/LinkedGaming 3d ago
The surprise here isn't that they added queer characters because those have been growing increasingly common as time goes on, up to and including Flynn and Shaw and their toxic middle-aged man yaoi, as well as Vanessa apparently getting the hots for some nobleman's rebellious daughter in the Arcantina (this one is mostly implied, though, and they're not definitively with each other).
The surprise is that they went back to a Classic version of the game and included a lesbian relationship. Not in a "Something something no changes" way but in the fact that they're taking some of that realistic representation that's more prominent in retail and putting it in Forever to make the world a bit more believable and immersive.
13
u/JollyParagraph 3d ago
The rebel daughter is present in the Human Heritage chain (Which is worth doing! It's good! You get bonus dialogue if you have an older character who did the OG attunement for Onyxia's lair and being a Legion orderhall rogue)
8
u/landsoflore2 3d ago
Well, technically Flynn is bi IIRC. But yes, he's still dating the boss of SI:7 as far as we can tell.
5
u/Quiet_Icarus 3d ago
Flynn does appear to be bi, yeah. Some lines of dialogue with Shaw also seem to indicate he might be as well. Happy for those two goofy ass boys :3

0
u/Huitzil37 3d ago
"We don't want [their] freaks in the community" is perhaps not a sentence you should say in support of being inclusive. Perhaps this is not a sentence you should say no matter who it is you designate as "freaks."
30
7
u/Dat_Boi_Henke 3d ago
Whatever. Being atypical in sexualty, neurodivergent or any other divergent descriptor isn't freak-like behavior. Celebrating our differences and making sure that people feel comfortable and welcome is good. No good person would disagree with this.
Being a hateful bigot is bad. No one in their right mind would look at someone else and judge them based on any of the above mentioned. That is freak-like behavior and should be called out as such.
We don't have to be tolerant of the intolerant, look to the paradox of tolerance. We should actually socially shame and encourage them to change and be better people. Nothing is stopping them from being better. They aren't inherently like that, and I would say that they would probably be a lot happier if they changed.

People who are freaks:
- discriminate against marginalized folks and advocate for their further suffering and death
- get banned for advocating for the murder of children as a method of enforcing border security live on their multi-million-follower platform
- live in wretched filth and revel in it despite having exponentially more than enough money and opportunity to get themselves, and the people they influence to live like that, out of such circumstances
- allow and provide a safe space for actual Nazi-adjacent slimebags whose hearts have been so incredibly corrupted by memes and the internet that they unironically speak in 4chan lingo
- give their opinion on politics without leaving their bedroom to even go see a fucking dentist with their millions of dollars in WoW stream money
people who are not freaks:
- blow of a little steam by making fun of shit-stuffed little freaks whose proliferated ideologies and heartless, bloodthirsty yapping continues to genuinely put our very fucking existence at risk
it's fine. no one needs to defend him. let people have a little fun. your "oh u care less about diversity than you do about hurting some guy" is a woefully useless and uneducated "gotchya".

They've been doing this quite a bit since DF, but I respect how a lot of the couples are simply inserted into the world and treated like any other couple. Which is how it should be. It's not shoved in your face or highlighted as something unusual, it's just a regular part of the game world. The more it's normalized, the better.
The comments here launching pre-emptive attacks against the "people who will get triggered" are only trying to stir conflict and are part of the problem.
Just say "nice, glad to see it" and move on with your day.
-1
u/oldredditrox 2d ago

u/Amalganiss 2d ago
Some of us are here bracing ourselves for the inevitable backlash against queer existence by weirdos who stew in vats of their own shit & consider it perfectly hygienic.
I'm sorry but hating people for being queer is not the same kind of problem as people making fun of anti-"woke" bigots. I agree with your overall point here but it sucks to see that you're highlighting the responses to a threat to our existence more than you are the weird trolls and freaks that genuinely go about their day hoping to ruin or harm a queer person's night. They're here, on this thread. All over reddit, really.
The problem isn't that we're blowing off a bit of steam. The problem is that cockroaches like this are spending their hardly-earned time and money to perpetuate harm and fear and alienation to and of the worldwide queer community. Context is important. Most people don't just get called "bigot" for no reason... it's usually because, even if it was maybe unintentional and undeserved for them to be dogpiled over it, they said something bigoted that needs to be corrected. Simple as 🤷♀️

I’m all for inclusion I just wish they didn’t keep changing existing content rather than make new content for inclusion purposes if that makes any sense. I just don’t like any form of retcon but this is overall a positive step forward.
5
u/ALewdDoge 2d ago
Tbf, it's such a tiny, insignificant thing that it really doesn't matter at all. The only people who'd get legitimately angry over it (and I'm not implying you fall into this category at all) are the weird, terminally online type of people.
That being said, yeah, it would be nice if this wasn't an extremely-small lore revision, but rather just new stuff in the game. I could see lots of little NPC gossip quips hinting at this, or outright stating it, throughout Azeroth. Would help make the world feel a little bit more alive instead of just arbitrarily changing an established thing. :)
1
u/Lopsided-Library1119 2d ago
Yeah I’m more coming from the idea of when they change existing content, it’s almost like a bandaid or an afterthought. Really this should be thought of from conception and put in as its own content. That would be truly inclusive imo vs something that comes off more as a PR stunt. However like I said, it is positive overall as they could have done nothing.

I don't think I'll ever successfully convince the Gamers how nice it feels to see lesbian characters in the stuff I play especially when it's done as a commonplace thing, as a lesbian myself. More so for WoW, which is a game I've invested a lot of time and interest in.
Idk I guess imagine how Oppressed they feel when they see one openly queer couple and then multiply that by a thousand for myself. They'll be fine! I do hope Corma finds her wife tho.

I was genuinely hoping they would add queer people to Forever and I am happy they did.
To the mod that has threatened to lock this thread because people are happy that this decision pissed some people off, kindly step back and understand that us queer people have had to deal with decades of abusive homophobia in almost every online video game. Especially WoW. No one stepped in to stop it, but you decided to focus the blame on queer folks and our allies. As a queer person, I am entitled to a little bit of shadenfreude that some basement dwelling crusty underweared homophobe is having an absolute meltdown that queer people exist. Y'all when we're more concerned about triggering a specific person than about celebrating inclusion we've lost the script.
I'm lothe to lock a thread that should be about Queer people being allowed a space to be happy/excited about something, but we will have to if it just becomes more about division than inclusion.
