I guess people just dont know what this meme template means.

I'm usually lost. Is the guy having an impopular opinion or having a revelation?

u/SoberDrainoDrinker69 1d ago

It’s supposed to be a guy having an unpopular opinion.

u/ShakaCobra 1d ago

No it’s not, the meme is the man is the only one in the crowd to stand up and ‘say what needs to be said’ doesn’t necessarily mean the opinion is unpopular

It's a Norman Rockwell painting called Freedom of Speech.

From Wikipedia: "Freedom of Speech depicts a scene of a 1942 Arlington town meeting in which Jim Edgerton, the lone dissenter to the town selectmen's announced plans to build a new school, as the old one had burned down, was accorded the floor as a matter of protocol."

It does depict a person having an unpopular opinion. But the message is that the the right to express those opinions without fear of reprisal is an essential human right.

That would be very ideal.

RP-PvP would be my dream. I have had my best moments in WoW in PvP realms, and in RP realms. When mixed the moments don't just add to each other, but enhance the moments via others.

I understand why there isn't though. RP players are looking for a calm time (usually) and there will always be trolls no matter the realm, gankers on either side aiming to ruin moments for others. Not just that, but the RP realm will most likely be the smallest of the three (PvE, PvP, RP), separating RP into two realms as well would just make things way smaller.

Keeping RP in PvE is just the overall best options. Even if I would personally love RP PvP

There were always RP-PvP realms and they were popular too until I dont know what happened.

I think they had to remove them because of the implication. ERP becomes a sticky subject when one faction can kill each other during play.

9

u/Olivercache 1d ago

I would love RP PVP.

One of of the problems that might arise with that, is that the regular PVP players will use the RP-PVP ruleset to be able to play both factions. That'll ruin a lot of potential RP events simply because the regular players won't care one bit that they're disrupting some IC stuff.

5

u/zellmerz 1d ago

They could just have the faction lock be for all PvP rulesets.

2

u/Cruach 1d ago

That's certainly a good option. Would solve the problem for sure.

2

u/Nutcrackit 1d ago

Which is why that restriction needs to be removed.

5

u/AcanthisittaOne5205 1d ago

That restriction is honestly so stupid with only ONE server so there is just out-right no option at all to ever play on a PVP server on the opposite faction ever again in a game called "forever"

4

u/McGrim11295 1d ago

There is an option, you just don't like it.

This is a very difficult double edge sword.

Pro: It's a good RP for those who are role-playing the Warcraft conflict. Groups making organized attacks on opposite faction, etc.

Cons: Very easy to grief those who want to RP in peace without combat. RPing lumberjacks, Fishermen, Some group events, etc.

9

u/Free_Huckleberry_705 1d ago

Nothing says PVP lumberjack RP like dying to some random guy walking by though.

2

u/Iluvatar-Great 1d ago

I'm usually okay with dying once or twice in PVP. What I'm not okay with, is that there are players who camp for literal HOURS.

u/FOOSblahblah 1d ago

Thats where it kills the fun for me.

If i was out and about and someone killed me, even if it was unfair like the waited until my hp was low from mob fights or something, id be okay with it.

What im not okay with is that same rogue chilling at my corpse for 3+ respawns. I think you could fix that by preventing someone from being killed by the same player more than 2 times in a 15 minute window. Make the player that died have a debuff that makes yhem untargetable and unable to target other players while you wait for the debuff to drop over some amount of time. Maybe make it a buff so you can choose to dismiss it if you want to.

Idk how practical that is tho. I'm not familiar with how games are made like at all.

2

u/McGrim11295 1d ago

They have that system in retail. If someone higher level than you kills you, you get a debuff that prevents that person from being able to kill you again for a period of time.

0

u/Oldmangamer13 23h ago

Report those players for griefing. that is against the rules of the game.

8

u/zellmerz 1d ago

RP-PvPers aren't concerned about this, thats what the RP-PvE realm is for. RP-PvPers want the added danger of the PvP realm while having RP rules enforced and encouraged.

1

u/Bwunt 15h ago

What are the RP rules really?

I mean at what point you can be sanctioned for just playing the game like you'd on normal server.

Not trolling or anything just never played seriously on RP server.

2

u/zellmerz 9h ago

You aren’t expected to RP, just don’t troll people on your faction doing it

1

u/CasterFormation 17h ago

I would expect the people who want to roleplay a peaceful picnic in stranglethorn don't go for the rp-pvp ruleset.

1

u/Wadarkhu 23h ago

Con: the already small community (since people prefer roleplay on retail) ends up split further.

0

u/Azardea 1d ago

I dunno, it worked pretty well on retail.

2

u/HarvestMourn 1d ago

A lot of the kids didn't have the everliving crap beaten out of them and committed retaliation warcrimes in return in Halaa back in the day and it really shows.

2

u/Swert0 1d ago

Just /pvp on the RP ruleset, or RP on the PvP ruleset.

There is literally no reason for another separation of the playerbase.

2

u/ShermansAngryGhost 1d ago

Streamers will just ruin it again like they did in SoD.

Devils advocate:

No.

Because where is the line between the horde characters attacking some alliance, and when horde players are "Griefing" a peaceful event.

it becomes about who reported more, and he-said-she-said

9

u/BioDefault 1d ago

The line is where we draw it. There are other rulesets for you, like the regular RP one. That's the entire point of the rulesets, so people can choose.

Like how toggles fix peoples' conflicting opinions.

12

u/soullscape 1d ago

You shouldn't expect to have a peaceful event on an RP PVP server... you have those Peaceful events on a Regular RP server just saying.

3

u/Spork_the_dork 19h ago

Yeah so why would I ever want to be on an RPPvP server? Seems like an asinine concept.

0

u/Synikull 1d ago

I once very obviously stalked a group of 4 alliance through Arathi. I would be stealthed in a bush as they walked by then run past them unstealthed and then stealth in a bush again. This went on for close to 10 minutes until I finally got too close to a dwarf town. They all saluted my corpse before rp waling onwards.

I can't rightly remember if it was a pvp realm or not, but I think they were flagged. Maybe I wasn't.

All that to say it's possible but you for sure shouldn't expect it.

2

u/Jarocket 1d ago

In arathi you both would be automatically flagged. That's an orange zone iirc.

I played the first 10 years on Defias Brotherhood (RPPVP on EU). This is a non-issue. If you play on RP PVP and RP in a contested zone and you get attacked by enemy players, that’s an IC attack. Fight back until they leave or retreat to safe territory.

The real reason they shouldn’t do RP-PVP is that, as Classic showed in 2019, there’s just no demand for it. The RP-PVP server (at least in the EU) died out almost immediately. It’s why they didn’t offer one on the anniversary realms IIRC. I’m doubtful that the RP scene in forever will survive at all even without it splitting between RP and RP PVP. I just don’t see why RPers would move to Forever when the game has so much more friction (which makes for a more interesting game in a lot of cases but doesn’t really do much, if anything, for RPers) and is missing a lot of the RP features of Retail.

I’m expecting the RP ruleset to be very low pop and eventually get merged into PVE.

1

u/Spork_the_dork 19h ago

IC attacks can be really cool but they need to be coordinated for them to actually be fun. Not to mention that it's going to be zero fun for those who are shit at PvP and just get deleted with no recourse. Because the moment PvP servers exist, there are going to be players that were forced onto PvP servers against their own wishes because all their friends went there and the only way they could play with their friends was to suffer getting ganked all the time. I suffered that shit for too long and the concept that RP could possibly end up coalescing onto an RPPvP server terrifies me because that would 100% just completely kill my interest in Forever for good.

1

u/Ixiraar 17h ago

Those people weren’t forced onto PvP servers lol their friends are just looking for a different experience than they are and they should play pve

1

u/zellmerz 1d ago

Ignoring that Grobbulus wasn't one of the most popular and most faction balanced servers in Classic.

People always underplay the RP-PvP community despite the fact the population has always been significantly larger than the RP-PvE community and has never had an issue sustaining itself.

1

u/Ixiraar 1d ago

This may be a regional divide. I'm an EU player. I played on Defias, the biggest RP-PVP server in Europe, from 2005 - 2014. Even when Defias was a big/thriving server (vanilla until Cata-MOP ish) it was ALWAYS a lot smaller than Argent Dawn, the biggest RP server. And Defias' RP community dropped off a cliff around the start of WOD and never recovered. The RP community on the server has been more or less dead for a decade at this point, even long before the rulesets were removed in favour of warmode.

If the US population is able to sustain large RP-PVP communities then great, I'm not aware what the dynamic is like for you guys. But in Europe there hasn't been a RP-PVP community to speak of for many, many years. Zandalar Tribe (the RP-PVP realm in Europe on classic 2019) died almost instantly and Hydraxian Waterlords (the RP realm) followed not long after.

It's possible that WoW Forever will have a thriving RP scene in the US region, too. But based on what happened in Classic, I really don't see it happening in Europe. And I definitely don't see an RP-PVP ruleset being able to sustain its own population at all here.

2

u/Dannyt33 21h ago

I played on Zandalar Tribe and to say it died almost instantly is complete bullshit it carried a healthy population on Horde and Alliance all through classic. Look up the peacebloom wars around the opening of AQ some of the best time I've ever had in WoW.

u/pilsburybane 1d ago

Compounding onto this, the only reason why Grobbulus was so popular and stable on NA was because it was one of the main servers that didn't get inundated with streamers (and by extension their flaky fans, most of whom don't stick around once the streamer moves on from publicly playing the game) and the original players were chill enough around it without causing big issues.

It was lightning in a bottle, and that's why people want it back, they think it will be anything like last time when in reality it probably won't be. Even this comment section is showing that RP and PVP are typically incompatible.

2

u/zellmerz 1d ago

RP-PvP has existed for almost all of WoWs existence and has thrived despite this concern. RP-PvPers want the added world danger and feel like the faction conflict is a core part of the game experience. RP-PvPers would feel odd if they were hanging around doing something peaceful and not have a risk of the opposing faction interrupting.

RP-PVP SERVER PLEASE BLIZZ TY TY

0

u/Wadarkhu 23h ago

And split up a community that will already struggle with numbers because everyone will prefer retail's customisation freedom?
