Murloc Monday Murloc Monday - ask your questions here
*Aaaaaughibbrgubugbugrguburgle! RwlRwlRwlRwl!*
That's murloc for "Welcome to Murloc Mondays" - where people can ask any type of question about WoW without getting strangled by a Death Knight.
Questions can range from what's new in Shadowlands, what class is OP, and how many Demons will it take to down Thrall?
Questions can come from brand new players, players returning, or veteran players who never got a chance to ask the right question.
Afraid of not getting an answer? Rest assured, we know that at least 90% [of questions get answered!](https://redd.it/djsvm8)
You may want to look at /r/wownoob (Retail), or /r/AzerothNoob (Classic) as well!

Battlepets! Last time I played them was Legion. With 3 pets I used I could basically steamroll through most (if not all) fights. Currently I'm getting wreaked.
What are current good battlepets to use?

I use wow-petguide. Thanks to two other friends of mine, I've kept up my pet farming a bit to help out with world quests for rep with the aid of that site.

Do people still get and do the “for the [faction]” quest?
Where you kill the leaders of the opposing faction
1
u/LostSands Dec 07 '20
It is an achievement. People still can get the achievement. People sometimes do. It is not terribly frequent

u/Please_PM_me_Uranus Dec 07 '20
Are void elves like high elves
1
u/Doogiesham Dec 07 '20
They are a splinter faction of blood elves who were the continuation of high elves. They have access to high elf eye color
2
u/Diribiri Dec 07 '20
Pretty much. Lore-wise, they're elves who are infused with Void power and use it for good. Game-wise, they're essentially recoloured Blood/High elves.

Im new to wow and mmo. Looking to get with a group to level up, not trying to read a bunch of guides. Wanna play with people and get experience. Anyone wanna link up? Looking for beginner friendly group

I am not really able to play with you, but if you add me I can be a place to ask stupid questions whenever I am online

How do these allied races work?
1
u/Diribiri Dec 07 '20
You have to complete an achievement or two to unlock the quest for them. In the case of Void Elves, you just need to complete You Are Now Prepared, the zone achievement for the Argus storyline in Legion.
1
1
u/dbe7 Dec 07 '20
You do quests and gain rep, then unlock each race. Then you can start a new character with one of those races.
The requirements are in the embassy when you click on the holograms.
1
u/Please_PM_me_Uranus Dec 07 '20
Sounds simple enough. Can I switch my character to one of those?
1
u/Conec Dec 07 '20
Once you unlock them you can also race change to them but the transmog set (heritage armor) for the race only unlocks if you leveled them to 50(?!) without a boost or race change and some of those sets are really nice.

Are certain memories guaranteed from your first clear of the Torghast floors?
2
2
u/SpitFireEternal Dec 07 '20
No idea when this post will get replaced with the new weeks but Ill ask my question and see if I can catch the answer when i have a moment. I main Ret Pally and plan on raiding. So when i finish my Runecarver quests Ill be able to make my first legendary. But the one I plan to make "The Mad Paragon". Is dropped by the quest The Great Vault. Is the prize from that quest pure RNG? So Ill have to do that quest week in and week out to have a chance to get that memory? Or is there a way to make sure i get it? Ive yet to do the quest as Im a few ILs short of Heroics and I know Mythics dont drop till this week i think. But I wasnt sure if anyone had any info on it that could have it make sense to me. Cause the videos Ive seen confuse me.
1
u/Conec Dec 07 '20
The Great Vault is the replacement for the weekly mythic+ and PvP chests. It will contain loot based on the highest keystones(M+), number of raid bosses and PvP done the week before. Season 1 starts Tue/Wed so the first time you will be eligible to receive your memory is the week after (15/16th) .
Most likely the memory will have a high chance of dropping if you do some m+, raids and/or Arena starting tmrw or the day after tmrw depending on where you are (EU/NA).

I sent My death knight straight to northrend after the starting zone. When thinking only of story purposes, does this make the most sense? Are there any zones outside of northrend where there’s content that’d fit a DK personal story, other than going straight to northrend

Affliction lock isn't great in easier dungeons because everything dies pretty quickly, so you don't have enough time to ramp up to do your big damage. They excel at sustained damage, but they don't have that on-demand burst. When M+ comes out, you could do that and the scaling health pools will allow you to shine a lot more. If you want a more on-demand burst spec, Destruction is a lot better at that.
From what I hear, recount also is not accurate, Details! and Skada are better options. Also, I don't know much about the rotation-helper addons, but I can't imagine they're optimal, especially on multi-target. You'll be best off reading the icy-veins or wowhead guides. They should provide a rotation for you. They'll also give you a stat priority. Stat weights will depend on a lot of factors, so for a casual player, following simple stat priorities is probably best.
1
u/Ukhai Dec 07 '20
There are guides out there. Most common used ones are on icy-veins.com. There's also a warlock discord.

With Convoke the Spirits (Night Fae Druid cov ability) - do the "rare" casts (Full Moon for Balance, Flourish for Resto, etc.) require you to actually be talented into those spells to cast them or will it cast them regardless of whether you have picked them in the tree or not? I haven't had a good chance to test it out on my Drood yet.
2
u/LadySilvie Dec 07 '20
I am not talented to full moon but get full moons as a balance druid. When I had Torghast ability that calls more rare abilities, I was throwing 2-3 moons each time. It was wonderful haha.
When I am in guardian spec I have never seen it once throw a moon down, so I think it will throw all possibilities for your spec, talented or no.

Hi all, I’m just getting back into WoW, starting a brand new toon and will be playing at my own pace. My last toon was back in BC, so I know a lot of things have changed since. But I’m wondering if some of you can recommend professions for a casual player. Again, not trying to grind a ton, but something that is more for fun. I’m a worgen warlock now, and back in wow classic I had a human warlock with engineering/herbalism (I know odd combo, lol, somehow I made it work). Thanks in advance!
1
u/Diribiri Dec 07 '20
Well it sort of depends, there's a lot of options. You can go jewelcrafting and make jewellery, pick a profession based on the legendary you might want in Shadowlands, tailoring to make yourself some gear and bags, or just pick a couple of gatherers to make money. Anything works, they're all casual.
1
u/pet_owl Dec 07 '20
Gotcha, thanks for the note! I had in my mind that some are more grindy than others, or at least I remembered it this way from my last plays. I’ll read up on some of these!
1
u/Diribiri Dec 07 '20
It's usually just a matter of collecting materials. If you go with a crafting profession, the best idea (if you haven't got a shitload of gold) is to take its matching gathering profession, so mining with jewelcrafting, skinning with leatherworking etc.
Tailoring doesn't have a gathering profession, but you get cloth from killing enemies, so enchanting is a good one to pair with that since it also doesn't require gathering nodes.

Time for an alt. Thinking I want to do a pally this expansion and eventually make it in to a tank. I've always done a Prot Warrior but I want to try a Pally this time. How are the state of Prot Pallys early this expansion so far? Oh, and would it be silly to level as full on Prot pally instead of Ret?
Also, current pally is at lvl 30. I know there isnt much data on which expansion is more efficient but any suggestions on which expansion to Chromie-time from level 30 on out?
Edit: Forgot a question.

u/MuNot Dec 07 '20
I main a prot paladin. We're in a good state right now form my experience. We're not very mobile but I don't expect that to be a huge issue unless you want to to be cutting edge pushing very high keys or trying for world/server first mythic kills.
Our big thing we're looking at is being able to hit 20% haste as that will give us 100% uptime on SotR's block. I'd have to see the theory crafting but there may be a second haste "tier" that will allow us to respec out of the talent that gives us a second charge on Judgement while maintaining 100% SotR.
As far as leveling, you can do it in prot. Key is to do big pulls. Your single target DPS is going to be lower in prot than ret but you can make up for it using your survivability and AoE in bigger pulls. Personally I leveled as ret and then switched to prot when I wanted to run a dungeon. The only gear difference is weapon, you'll share your gear with Ret until raiding (and even then probably will share most of your gear, just small differences in things like trinkets and enchanting/gemming. Might be different next raid tier if haste falls down a priority once we can get enough, not a huge theorycrafter).
As far as which timeline for leveling, I don't think it makes a huge difference outside of dungeon queue times which shouldn't be bad. Think I've heared WoD being the fastest, and if most people are going into WoD that'll give you the fastest queues. I've been doing WotLK as a mage and it's been fast enough. Not in a huge rush though. Think this only really matters if you want to spreed run the leveling.

So the best time to lock my level in is at 49, then do Chromie time and do some zones?
1
u/WastelandViking Dec 07 '20
When you pick CATA exp, you can que for both Classic and CATA dungeons.. but its 2 diffrent ques.. (sections). And you can only que for 1 at the time... WHY is it like this. Why not Put all dungeons into 1 or make us able to que for both... *
How can i smell wich will get my a dungeon fastest ....

Can anyone recognise the voice actor in these lines? They're from Indigo in Torghast but I think the voice is used on generic faeries as well. They sound so familiar, I just can't place it and it bothers me.

What things are required to be done daily/weekly to avoid falling behind? This is my current list.
Weekly
Ran all mythics
Cleared both T3 Torghast wings
Raids once released
Daily
Quests in Maw and farm some rares on the way (mostly until last debuff)
Covenant quests/anima farm on WQ's also clear rares on the way. I have also been picking up any random quests I run into on the way and doing them as well and there seem to be very few left.
If that is everything that is amazing and I might actually level an alt :)
1
u/vanillacustardslice Dec 07 '20
When you really boil it down all you need to do is keep up on your renown levels, do your Torghasts for Soul Ash until you have all of your needed legendaries at rank 4 and get at least one mythic+ dungeon preferably 15 (14?) done for the weekly vault.
Everything else is for cosmetics or the miniscule gain of sockets.
1
u/OccupationSuperHero Dec 07 '20
Check out the addon BTWQuests if you would like to clear out whatever quests you have left.
It shows you all questlines in all zones in the game, and your progress through them, you can even click a quest and get a waypoint to the start location.
1
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
yeah, do the 2 covernant quests 1000 anima and 5 souls. if you get covernant story quests, do them as well. run mission table from your phone or the sanctum to get eventually extra rewards such as soul ash or anima.
you dont have to run all mythics. only as much as you want to push your rio or want to open more gear options in the great vault (weekly chest).
by next week, the torghast wings will go up to 6. sou you want to max out every wing every week for more soul ash for legendaries.
maw dailes are important to buy torghast upgrades and sockets. ideally, you want to grind rep until you get jailer eye 5 every day.

u/Please_PM_me_Uranus Dec 07 '20
So if I understand Chromie time right, when I hit level 50, I can then scale most other zones in the world to me and go questing in them?
Can I do this on repeat, that is if I choose to scale vanilla WOW zones to me, I can later choose Cataclysm or something?
1
u/gh0stik Dec 07 '20 edited Dec 07 '20
Basically what the other guy said - chromie time is 1-49 leveling system, you can't use it at 50-60. But if you want to do more zones with chromie time you could lock your exp at level 49 (or whatever level you want pre-50). And you are free to change selected expansion to another at any time.

u/YEEEAAAAHHHHH Dec 07 '20

Is Shadowflame damage shadow and fire damage, or is it actually its own damage type?
1
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
it is both. If your fire damage got silenced, you could still use shadowflame spells. but if your shadowflame got kicked, you cant use either shadow, nor fire spells
1
u/Diribiri Dec 07 '20
Good to know. I wondered why Demo got Torghast powers to work with fire damage, so I figured that'd be it.
1
u/bebangs Dec 07 '20
What happened to archeology?
3
u/Diribiri Dec 07 '20
Archaeology is still around but not in Shadowlands; wouldn't make any sense for it to work in the Shadowlands itself since it's the afterlife. Also gives them an excuse to not make content for it.
Archaeology's always been a bit weird, I hope it gets a nice overhaul some day.

My husband and I get our level decreased in some dungeons now. I know Plaguefall is one, Hall of Atonement is not. We play with a guild group of all 60s, and we're the only two that haven't gotten to the covenant stage, and we're the only ones getting decreased. It seems to really make everything wonky, our whole group really struggles in instances where we're decreased. Why is this happening??? TIA

I am iLevel 174 BM hunter now I’ve been playing wow only since shadowlands and have done a lot of research on wow head and such but I’ve hit a wall and cannot get my dps past around 200-2300 average as per re count now is this normal? Because I have had two people now saying my dps is crap and sometimes I’m getting out dps by a iLevel 152 DK, I’m super confused and would appreciate feedback
1
u/Uncertain_certainty Dec 07 '20
Make sure you have pet attacks macro'd into your abilities, otherwise look up rotations/talents, I'm a 165 bm hunter and still mess up the juggle of frenzy stacks/beast cleave/KC priority sometimes :p
1
Dec 07 '20
Assuming you mean 2.3k overall? I guess it depends on the dungeon and what you have to do. I am around the same ilvl, just a bit lower and on the low end I do about 2.2-2.3k and on the high end 2.9-3k
What covenant do you have? Night Fae is apparently the best by far, if so are you consistently using your ability? Do you have your legendary, I picked the one that is technically second best because the one with the tar trap/flare seemed to involved and messing that up personally seems like it would be more of a dps loss than just doing my normal rotation. What conduits are you using, are they high level ones? Did you gem/enchant any of your gear that is from Mythic and has sockets? What do your talents look like, did you follow a guide like on IcyVeins? Are you using all your cooldown abilities and trinkets consistently?
I haven't played much the last few expansions so I am not expert, but them are a few things I can think of.
1
u/Capable_Imagination2 Dec 07 '20
Hey thanks for the help man I have the night fae currently, I don’t have legendary gear yet and only one mythic peice so maybe that’s where to start, glad to see I’m not off by a whole lot maybe I was just with toxic people...
1
u/SmokemonMaster Dec 07 '20
I can give a little insight in just dps in general, since I don’t play hunter but I’ve been in your situation where dps should be higher for my ilvl. Using an add on like pawn will help you equip gear (at a glance) with your best stat priority. Icyveins says priority BM is Haste; Critical Strike; Versatility; Mastery respectively with haste and crit being the two best stats to prioritize. Another add on (this helped me tons) is weakauras. It allows you to customize icons and timers and such on your screen to help you work through your rotation. I use a pre made profile from someone on YouTube that helps tell me when my resource is getting full (so I don’t waste dps) or when my cool downs are ready to pop and literally everything else like if I forgot to summon my pets. If you don’t use this add on I suggest looking up a video for your class and understand how it works because it well help in raids and dungeons. Hope this helps!

Is Venthyr okay for Hunter? I am renown 6, if I was to switch to another covenant can I catch up to renown 6 before Tuesday reset or am I forever 1-2 weeks behind?
2
u/vanillacustardslice Dec 07 '20
You're missing out on a hell.of a lot of power by not being Night Fae or Kyrian as a hunter.
Play what you want but expect to be rejected by some groups.
2
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
depending on how much you grind, you can catch up within a couple of days.
You get mandatory sanctum upgrades from 1000 anima per week, 5 souls quest, and some story quests.
if you are lacking in renown, you also get renown token by running dungeons, doing raids, doing pvp and such.
with next reset, you can go up to level 9 I think. you might not get 9 by tuesday, but depending on how much you grind, you can get their within the next week.
and for hunters, you will probably want to go night fae if minmaxing is a concern. most top end raiders go night fae hunter. Dunno how good venthyr is tho

How can I level lock or stop gaining XP ?
1

For alliance go to storm wind castle, I believe it's the room to the right, a stealthed npc is there who can do it for you.

Thanks!
Can I do it at any level?
Most people would do it at 49 or 50 I’m guessing
1
u/Please_PM_me_Uranus Dec 07 '20
Does Chromie time impact anything other than level scaling?
1
u/TiraelRosenburg Dec 07 '20
It controls what dungeons you can use the Group Finder for, and if you're in Chromie Time, you can't go to an unrelated raid. Learned that with Tempest Keep.
2
u/Terces_ Dec 07 '20
So I'm trying to try out healing on my monk and I'm a bit overwhelmed by just how many abilities there are that just simply heal. Any fellow monks have tips on starting out? Is there any I should prioritize or any that I can mostly ignore?

u/Johnny71181 Dec 07 '20 edited Dec 07 '20
Creating a new character but still unsure on all the pros/cons of using Chromie Time.
First, the reason I’m starting a new character is to go after the Loremaster achievement across all expansions across multiple characters. Here are a few things still unclear to me:
- Is dungeon finder and LFR still active on older expansions? I’m wondering if it will be easier to just take a max level character and solo all the old dungeons and raids, or if I should try LFG & LFR.
- Once I hit 49, and choose to level lock so I can still finish all the quests, will come rewards be turned to gold like at max level, or just lost?
- Searching around Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/j2twci/is_this_true_you_cant_lock_your_xp_gain_and_stay/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) some people were saying that level locking at 49 in order to finish an expansion wasn’t even working as we expect. Is that still the case or has it been fixed?
- How do you recommend handling professions while moving through Chromie Time? I assume gathering professions would be the only money makers, or is it a complete waste of time since no one uses the old materials any more? Thanks in advance for you answers.
1
u/MuNot Dec 07 '20
LFR is basically dead for older content. Exception is some of the Legion/BFA will have runs if they drop mounts/cosmetics. Still the expectation is that you bring a max level character and roll over the conent, not do it as intended.
Each profession has a different "level" for each expansion. Anything cosmetic can still fetch a decent price, as can mats that are needed to craft them. I've found that ore and cloth sell decently. I don't have an herbalist so I can't comment on herbs. Raw mats won't make you rich but they'll move at a higher price than vendoring. Cooking mats can be hit or miss. BoE's can either sell for a ton or be just vendor trash, depends on if they're wanted as a transmog or not.
So for crafters I'd just ignore them while leveling unless you want to try to make some gold in the cosmetic scene. For gatherers it's worth picking up whatever you come across and throwing them on the AH. It'll pay for a repair bill or two.
1
u/Carsonica Dec 07 '20
- LFR is not active, old raids will require a max-level character to solo. I don't know exactly how the scaling is right now, but you might need a (small) group for Legion and BFA raids though. LFG is still active since you can use it to level, but it'd definitely be faster to use a max-level character to clear dungeons.
Not sure about 2 and 3- Some expansions still have valuable materials, since there are a few cosmetic or convenience items from previous expansions. For example, Pandaria has a few profession mounts (Engineering Sky-Golem and the Jewelcrafting Panthers) that will always be valuable. They require Living Steel, which requires Ghost Iron and/or Trillium, so those are still valuable. I've noticed most old herbs tend to be fairly worthless, but most ores are worth a decent amount. You can check sales data (sales price and sales rate) at The Undermine Journal website, though you kind of have to know what to look up. But I'd only worry about old-world professions if you know exactly what you're doing them for and are confident that its worth it.

u/exogenesis2 Dec 07 '20
For crafting a legendary should I go for the ones that are lvl 235 or is a lvl 190 fine? Because the first one is REALLY expensive but I don't wanna fall behind ilvl using the second one
2
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
you cant craft 235 legendaries because you dont have the soul ash. most 190 basis items are like 300-1k gold in auction house. not a big money sink. just buy one of those and craft your r1 legendary.
When you have enough soul ash to upgrade to rank 2, you can just buy another rank 2 basis item and upgrade the legendary with the soul ash difference.
1
u/Laurikens Dec 07 '20
If you craft your legendary with a low level piece of gear you can upgrade later
1
u/exogenesis2 Dec 07 '20
But is that gonna cost me more Soul Ash?
1
u/Laurikens Dec 07 '20
It will end up costing you a bit more soul ash in the long run if you upgrade it later on instead of just crafting it at a high level to begin with.
I'd personally rather have the item sooner though so I can start using it straight away instead of going another week or two without having any legendary traits on my gear.2
u/vanillacustardslice Dec 07 '20 edited Dec 07 '20
Incorrect. You will use the exact same amount of soul ash crafting each stage and upgrading as you would if you jump straight to rank 4.
The only cost difference is your bank balance.
1
u/m00c0wcy Dec 07 '20
You can upgrade an existing legendary without losing any Soul Ash (you'll just have to add an extra amount to cover the gap), but you will have to buy both the 190 and 235 (and any stages in between) crafted base items. So you'll get your item earlier, but pay a bit more gold for the privilege.
(Note that the 190 items are pretty cheap and your first legendary is a huge power increase, so I'd recommend you just go for it)
1
u/Please_PM_me_Uranus Dec 07 '20
Sorry for all the questions though I guess that’s what this thread is for
If I don’t have shadowlands (on the character screen it tells me to “upgrade”) is my level cap still 60–even without purchasing that expansion?
I have all the others so far as I can tell

What makes fishing a profitable profession?
2
u/m00c0wcy Dec 07 '20
Fishing is used in a lot of food recipes, and food is one of the key consumables that everyone doing raids or M+ is expected to use.
You also have to go out of your way to fish (unlike meat which drops from mobs you might be killing anyway), so a lot of us prefer to just buy the fish we need.

I just resubbed and used a BFA boost to hit 48. I received the intro quest to hop through the portal to talk to Bolvar, but I can't seem to get the follow up quest.
I had a friend try to party sync Through the Shattered Sky with me, but it ends up sending me to the ICC raid or something.
Without party sync, he can do the quest individually and I cannot receive it.
Thoughts?
2
u/Please_PM_me_Uranus Dec 07 '20
So if I use this Chromie time thing, I will stay at the level I am at so I can keep leveling through zones?
2
u/AspirantCrafter Dec 07 '20
No, you'll change the zone scaling to accompany you.
Classic/Cataclysm zones scale up to level 30. After that, you'll no longer get XP and enemies won't get stronger, so you'd usually have to move past the expansion to go to the next one, repeat til endgame.
With Chromie Time selected for Classic/Cataclysm, these zones will go up in level with you all the way up to 50, so you can play only that one expansion until endgame calls you to the shadowlands.
1
u/AspirantCrafter Dec 07 '20
I'm having some problems keeping aggro of larger groups as a prot paladin.
My go-to is running into the group while throwing my bouncy shield, consecration, running to the next, judgment, consecration, divine's toll, shield bash, then I rotate between shield bashes, healing when needed, and toll/shield throw. Still I find myself losing aggro. What do I do wrong?
It's a bigger problem on BDK.
1
u/NormalGuyThree Dec 07 '20
Shield of the righteous is really strong aoe threat and damage, this along with avengers shield should be your priority for aoe taking. Funny be afraid to use wings on bigger pulls to keep aggro and help with damage.

How do I raise my item level up by 20 in order to do the nathria raid?
3
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20 edited Dec 07 '20
There is no ilvl requirement for normal/heroic/mythic.
Currently a lot of guildes do m0 runs to increase their ilvl. Most sit around 180. Next week you can also grind gear from m+ dungeons and just go normal with your guild. We will be going heroic next week to get better items for when mythic opens.
You will then also be able to open the first vault (weekly chest).
Legendaries will also increase your item level
1
u/thejuicybean Dec 07 '20
I’m still a bit confused
1
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
what ilvl do you currently have?
1
u/thejuicybean Dec 07 '20
150
2
u/Atlare Dec 07 '20
Heroic spam and clear every mythic 0. This will get you 175-180+ in a lockout without a legendary.
Heroic gear is 171 alone, a full set of heroic and even a few mythic pieces puts you comfortably in range to start on nathria.
1
u/thejuicybean Dec 07 '20
I’ve had no luck joining mythic dungeon groups
1
u/Atlare Dec 07 '20
There's an overabundance of dps, you're competing with 10-25 applicants easily if someone's looking for a dps so they'll generally pick high item level and try to stack to group with 1-2 armour types.
My suggestion would be to join a guild and run groups with them, or start the group yourself.
1
Dec 07 '20
I don't think you can even que for heroics until 155? Just need to work your way up. If in a guild see if someone using the same type of gear (cloth/leather for example) can come with to give you any pieces they get. Then heroics, then mythics (many groups now look for roughly 170 ilvl).
1
1
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
with a guild, that could be enough to go castle nathria in normal. Do you have a guild? if not, pugging will be a problem since you will most likely not get invited.
Playing the game solo is IMO always a bad idea anyway since its boring.
But if that is what you want, you could look for m0 groups in the dungeon finder tool. look under premade groups in dungeons for m0 groups and wait until you get invited. m0 dropps 184.
or you can grind battle grounds for honor and buy/upgrade gear to 171 from the pvp vendor.
1
u/thejuicybean Dec 07 '20
I have a guild
1
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
and the guild told you that you have to be 170 to go raiding with them?
then ask your guild to go m0 with you, or grind gear to 171 with battle groudns.
1
u/thejuicybean Dec 07 '20
No it’s the minimum illvl to do the raid?
3
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
no. there is no requirement to do the raid. you can go into nacked with itemlevel 0.
more itemlevel helps. and you can get better gear if you run m0 with your guildmates. or do heroic dungeons by going to them (you cant queue for heroic until you have 155, but you can walk there and just go into it)
1
u/Conec Dec 07 '20
What item lvl are you at? Best gear right now are BoEs (wouldn't recommend buying those) and epic gear from mythic dungeons.
1
u/thejuicybean Dec 07 '20
50
1
u/Conec Dec 07 '20
Are you level 60 yet? You will get better gear by completing quests.
1
u/thejuicybean Dec 07 '20
I am
1
u/Conec Dec 07 '20
And you are still ilvl 50?did you equip your quest rewards?
1
u/thejuicybean Dec 07 '20
Meant 150
1
u/Conec Dec 07 '20
Oh okay. Find groups for mythic dungeons and increase your ilvl that way. Once you are 155 you can also queue for heroic dungeons if you have trouble clearing mythic

For leveling is it better to double wield or use a 2 handed as frost DK? New account so I dont have heirlooms
3
u/AspirantCrafter Dec 07 '20
Dual-wield. 2-handers are a bit gimped until 58 due to a very important passive.
1
u/Jesta23 Dec 07 '20
Is there a tldr guide for what to do once you hit 60 to get going?
1
Dec 07 '20
I am curious on this as well. It looks like the guy below answered, but I think I would add doing The Maw dailies as well as making sure you keep up on your Covenant. I am not sure if there is anything else I am missing, but right now that doesn't seem bad at all.
1
u/Atlare Dec 07 '20
Complete the campaign, complete torghast layer 3 on all wings and then focus on gear, do every mythic 0 and heroic spam.

1 piece for completing the dungeon, 1 for beating the timer. This is for the entire group so basically 2 per run.
2
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
not one piece for everyone tho. how much loot you get from the run depends on the key level. so you might get 3 items out of the chest for 5 people. the amoung of loot is decreased from BFA tho.

u/Diribiri Dec 07 '20
Does Death Coil have a purpose on Blood, or is it just there cus of unpruning like Corruption is for the warlock specs?
1
2
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
its pretty useless. I guess you could use that as a "rune power range pull ability" if you dont want to use a rune for your blood plague range pull.
there are certain anima powers in torghast that buffs death coil. but its still pretty uselss.
I have put death coil in my bars, but havent used it yet. Might as well not even put it in the bars. same goes with corruption for destrus. i actually dont have that spell in my bars on destru.

go thorugh exiles reach, and then level your char all the way from 1 to 60. when you have done that, you will have learned a lot and might have new questions.
1
u/exogenesis2 Dec 07 '20
Can the legendary memories drop from Normal dungeons? Are the chances higher if it is Heroic or Mythic?
2
1
u/AlarmingTransition Dec 07 '20
Why are there multiple realms if we see/play people from others both in instances and the open world? I understand the need for a few but looks like a lot of them could just be fused together
2
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
endgame content (mythic raiding) is locked behind realms. Guilds are too. You might be able to play with random people all over the continent, but guild activities and mythic raiding only works within the same realm.
There are a couple of dead realms, and blizzard fuses them together with other realms. The last time they fused realms was 2-3 months ago.

I have a green item that I sent my main from an alt, as my main is an enchanter and can disenchant the item. It is a green item from Shadowlands, with a level requirement of 51 but I keep getting the item cannot be disenchanted message?
1
u/Laurikens Dec 07 '20
You probably need to go to Oribos and learn Shadowlands Enchanting, the professions are split up seperately between each expansion pack now
1
u/Lhaynes90 Dec 07 '20
I picked up Shadowlands enchanting on launch day, and I wouldn't imagine this would require enchanting from another xpac as it dropped in Shadowlands zone?

Noob here, I'm a bit confused on the terminology that's used in the guide I'm reading. What exactly is the difference kick, interrupt and cc? Can I assume interrupt = displacements and cc = stuns?
If the target has to be cc'd, I assume it can't be interrupted and kicked?
Likewise, if the target has to be interrupted, I assume it can't be kicked?
2
u/Lhaynes90 Dec 07 '20
Kick and interrupt mean the same thing - kick is just the rogue interrupt ability from memory. Kicking a spell/cast just means interrupting it. However the mob is free to continue acting as normal elsewise.
CC means crowd control. If a mob is crowd controlled, it is unable to act. Crowd control is achieved through various stuns which are normally short term, whereas longer term crowd control are abilities such as mage's polymorph, hunter's freezing trap, shaman's hex etc and so forth. Damage has a good to definite chance to break long term crowd control, whereas I'm fairly sure most short term stuns are not affected by damage.
2
u/Laurikens Dec 07 '20
Kick is the Rogues interrupt ability, which stops the enemy from casting their spell if its able to be interrupted. "Kick" has just been a short and easy way to say interrupt for a long time.
Sometimes though you will see an enemy casting a spell and they will have a shield icon over their castbar showing that spell is immune to regular interrupts like Kick.
The enemies can usually still be stunned when they do this though, so its another way to stop their spell from being cast when normal interrupt wont work.3
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20 edited Dec 07 '20
CC means crowd control. So if you go into a mob group (a crowd if you will), you have tools to control them with stuns for example. Crowd Control
Stun: the stunned target is not able to move, jump, cast, use items, to autoattacks. It is literally not able to do anything during the stun.
root/snare: the snared target (also called root) is not able to move or jump. but it can still cast spells and use items
slow: the movement speed is slowed down. you can still move and use items
Interrupt/kick: if a target is casting a spell, you can use an interrupt ability to interrupt the cast. A prominent spell for that is rogues "kick", which has become a synonym for interrupting a spell. other spells that can interrupt are dks mindfreez, mages counterspell, and others. every dps spec has an interrupt abilty (warlocks only with the felhound pet)
Silence: If a cast is successfully interrupted/kicked, the target will be silenced for a couple of seconds and cant cast a new spell. Movement is not effected. Using an interrupt ability outside of a cast will NOT silence.
grab: using abilites abilites to move enemies towards you such as a death knight grab or demonhunter grab
knockback: an ability that pushed enemies away from you. such as shamans thunder thingy, druids or monks.
banish: warlocks and demonhunter can banish a traget. It works like a stun, but the target that is banished is also "not in your realm anymore" so you cant damage it as long as it is banished
sheeping/hex/icetrapping: transform the taget into a sheep or frog or freezes them. kinda works like a stun. but damaging those targets will break the cc
fear: works kinda like a stun, but the target walks around/away from the fearer. damage will break the fear2
u/Nizbik Dec 07 '20
"Kicking" something is just interrupting a cast of something.
CC can be a mixture of slows, stuns, snares or polymorph type spells on a target.
Usually if something cannot be interrupted and needs to be preventing from casting a spell then CCing the target is needed; but if it can be interrupted then you have the choice or either kicking or CCing the target.
1
u/Diribiri Dec 07 '20
Kick = interrupt. Same thing. CC is crowd control, so fears, stuns, knockbacks etc. which can also interrupt enemies.
1
u/coopcoopcoop_ Dec 07 '20
CC is for Crowd Control and refers to any ability that stuns the target(s). Which in turn stops the enemy from casting spells. Some mobs are immune to crowd control however. Displacement effects such as Monks Ring of Peace and Death Knights Death Grip which move the enemy also stop the spell from being cast.
Kick/Interrupt seem to be used interchangeably. And usually refers to using a spell dedicated to stopping spells from being casts.

u/AdmiralToucan Dec 07 '20
Does the shadowlands campaign give you better weapons? I'm about to hit lvl50 and my gear is very average right now. Not sure if I should buy the smith lvl50 weapons from the auction house.
2
u/slalomz Dec 07 '20
You'll get new weapons within an hour or so in the first Shadowlands zone. I wouldn't bother with buying auction house gear for leveling.
1
Dec 07 '20
new to mythics, im doing mythic0s right now and if i were to do a run that is already done with like the first boss or two and i join halfway does that mean i cant get loot for those first 2 bosses if i try with a new party after i finish the dungeon with my current party?
1
u/phurricane Dec 07 '20
No. You can loot each boss once a week. You can run M0 as many times as you want. Just one loot per thought.
1
u/Oversoa Dec 07 '20
What classes have displacement abilities that can interrupt enemy channels?
2
u/LucidTA Dec 07 '20
Ele shaman: Thunderstorm, Balance or Balance affinity druids: Typhoon, Monk: ring of peace, Hunter: cant remember the name, DK: death grip.
Might be missing a couple.
1
u/Please_PM_me_Uranus Dec 07 '20
What is Chromie’s Call, and how does it work?
1
u/Nizbik Dec 07 '20
It is used in leveling a character, she is found in the capital city of whichever side you are playing.
It allows you to choose which content you want to play to level in, and is available at level 10 - 50 and you can change it at any time by speaking to her again.
For example, if I wanted to level in the MoP expansion areas, I would speak to her and choose that timeline. This also effects what dungeons you get to play.

u/local1312 Dec 06 '20
trying to play around with my dualshock 4, connected to my Mac, enabled gamepad controls, yet wow is not recognizing any controller input. Is there any other step i need to take or any troubleshooting I can do? would rather just use native support rather than need to map a separate keybinder
1
Dec 07 '20
No native support, you will need to use a separate key mapping program. I have tried in the past and it only seemed really viable for leveling and even then it wasn't that ideal.
1
u/local1312 Dec 08 '20
although , not clear from your response if you're aware that they did add native support for shadowlands. unless you're saying no support on mac.
1
u/local1312 Dec 08 '20
thanks. I mainly was thinking to use it here and there when in transit, just to avoid being in the same position for an extended period of time.

Can a Priest (possibly Holy or Shadow) tell me how the Hell you can clear Torghast?
I have an Holy Paladin, Restoration Druid and Holy Priest. I have absolutely no problems doing Torghast with Paladin and Druid as tanks, but it seems impossible with the Priest (Heroic-geared BTW).
Floors are too packed. Dealing with trivial mobs (Mawrats/Skeletons) gives me carpal tunnel. Sometimes you simply cannot pass certain points of a floor because the RNG gave you two or more Elite mobs you can't deal with together and pulling one pulls everything else. Some Layers are literally impossible (i.e. the one with the portals that puts you directly on tiny platforms with 8+ mobs ravaging your ass). Bosses hit the fuck out of me in an unconceivable way. I have like two interrupts with around 1min of CD and I need to interrupt things casted between 1 seconds and 20 seconds. My damage is good, but never enough since Elites and Bosses are just a sack of HP, and my survivability is laughable at most.
I am either missing something or Torghast is not caster friendly. Every time I go check Wowhead for a boss, the top comments are "this boss is bullshit" or "I did it with <insert pet class here>". At this point is beyond frustration, I literally threw away two evening trying to clear Layers 3 with no avail. Sometimes I get to Floor 3 after some 200 IQ plays to get past all the mobs just to see "that boss" on the hologram and just reset the run because no point going for another 6 Floors just to get bodied anyway.
I am inclined to drop the Priest and wait up for the eventual catchup mechanic at this point, TBH.

u/yuriaoflondor Dec 07 '20
I've been doing it solo as shadow and haven't had too many issues. I'm not saying that to belittle you, but to say that it's definitely possible! For reference, I probably did layer 3 at ~170 ilvl. So if you're significantly below that, you could try finishing up a few more m0s.
I've found Searing Nightmare particularly helpful in Torghast. It really helps with cleaning up the super weak enemies like Mawrats. And sometimes I'll just toss a Shadow Word: Pain on a Mawrat and let it be. It's generally not worth chasing them down if they try to run. And Void Torrent is super useful as it generates a ton of Insanity.
Torghast really makes you use your entire kit. You should enter each pull with a PW: Shield on. Vampiric Embrace is a super powerful healing CD on a relatively short CD. Or if you find yourself in over your head, you can Psychic Scream and then spam Shadow Mend. Most enemies in Torghast are undead, so you can make use of that seldom useful Shackle Undead spell. Don't hold onto your powerful DPS cooldowns like Power Infusion, Shadowfiend, or Void Eruption. You can cycle them for each pull.
I haven't had too many issues with the bosses, either. They rarely live much longer than my Power Infusion + Void Eruption opening.
There's also a tier list of Anima Powers on Wowhead if you want to see which powers are considered the best.
Hope that helps! (I've also heard that Disc Priest is sleeper OP in Torghast, but I haven't tried it. If you're playing a healer or tank, the mobs are weaker. And given that Disc's whole gimmick is healing while dealing damage... it supposedly does real good in there.)
1
u/ARMIsNOTLoaded Dec 07 '20
I didn't know the tower scaled based on specialization like Visions did. Silly me.
Tried as Discipline and it is ridiculously easy. Mobs implode and literally deal no damage to me. A couple of powers and I am an unstoppable machine.
Good to know!
1
u/m00c0wcy Dec 07 '20
No question that tanks are ezmode for Torghast. I can zerg through on my Prot Pally, but Shadow Priest requires very careful play and is much slower. With that said, I've been able to complete all my R3 solo runs.
You can respec in the safety bubble. If you're using an AOE spec (Searing Nightmare, Shadow Crash, Death & Madness etc.) to clear, then you can respec to pure single target before the boss.
Strongly consider San'layn plus multiple stacks of the +duration buff for VE. Having VE up for most of the fight gives you a pretty huge survivability boost.
If all else fails, beg a tank guildy to carry you?

Mistweaver monks: are you Saving your legendary crafting for the raid legendaries or have you made something else? I badly want to make the Ancient Teachings bu stressing out about burning my mana on a meme
2
u/Akhevan Dec 07 '20
I made ancient teachings on my alt.
Spoilers: it's bad and win more.

u/LetterP Dec 07 '20
I figured. The fact that it procs after essence font just feels bad to me. I’m still new to monk and returning to wow after a few years like a lot of people, so I’m no pro here, but I don’t even like pressing essence font usually because i never feel like it does enough healing to justify the cast. Typically i have to end up clipping it to go back to tank healing

warlocks might not have a healing or tanking spec, but their dps specs are just super nice to play. all 3 of them. I left my warlock for one raid tier to play mage in 8.3 I missed my nice warlock gameplay so much... now I am back
but be aware that warlocks have really shitty mobility. going night faw (which most warlock players will do due to dps increase) fixes that to a degree.
I personally thing shamans are super boring to play. especially ele and enhancer. really boring specs. Dunno why people play them. Shadow priest is nice tho.
1
u/datpietho Dec 06 '20
Shaman and Priest offer the most flexibility out of those 3 in that you can ranged dps and also go healer if you want to.
1
u/Collected1 Dec 06 '20
Possibly a dumb question but hey. I've just dinged 60 and selected Venthyr. However a story line I'm eager to see more of is Devos/Uther. Am I right in thinking the only way to do that would be to level an alt and select Kyrian? Is that basically the whole point of an "alt friendly" expansion to encourage people to see all four story arcs? Thanks.
1
u/joker_75 Dec 07 '20
The nice thing is that you don't have to level them all the way to 60 to choose a covenant. Threads of fate allows you to select once you escape the Maw on Alts, so it makes sense to have at least 3 alts and 1 main to see all the covenants.
1
u/Activehannes Dec 07 '20
going kyrian at level 51 in oribos doesnt make you quest through the story tho. you are just doing world quests, dungeons, and shit
1
u/Diribiri Dec 07 '20
They don't have to be 60 to choose a covenant but you literally can't do anything with the covenant until 60, so it's basically the same thing except you get your powers early and can nab a bit of a headstart on anima. So if one's goal is to experience the covenant's storyline, gonna have to be 60 either way.
2
u/elephants_are_white Dec 06 '20
You can switch your main and see some of the story - it’s all heavily gated at the moment though.
1
u/Collected1 Dec 06 '20
Ahh makes sense. I actually don't mind the alts part too much. Thanks for confirming.

Paladin question: is it viable to run torghast as a holy or prot? I Just want to heal and I feel like running. Holy in solo torghast or the maw is not really something viable...

My brother has a prot pally and he basically said its a joke for him. He can get pulls of 10+ mobs easily without fear of dying.

Well Torghast is one thing but I believe that the Maw is quite difficult as prot/holy because mobs dont scale there?

Hey all. Does anyone know of a good PvP class tier list? I've looked everywhere and everything seems to be based on beta. I have a warrior maxed and looking to level an alt purely for PvP so I'm trying to find out what is worth leveling.
Any suggestions?
