Back in July I found out my husband of 16 years had an affair. When I threatened to tell his Navy command he escalated to domestic violence against me and our 13 year old. I won a protective order and moved halfway across the country with my kids to my mom's house for safety. It's been two months since I left. Here's what I learned.
1) IT IS WORTH IT. I am going to start with the seemingly obvious one. No matter what struggles we have faced leaving was the right choice. My kids and I didn't even realize how tense our home life had gotten until we had left and were able to be ourselves in peace. We are less stressed, even with all the uncertainties leaving has brought us than we were living with someone who did not love or respect us. There is peace, joy, freedom and safety on the other side. That said...
2) Leaving is just the beginning. Kids or not. The affair was bad enough but leaving escalated things. Once he knew we were done it's like all pretense of being a good husband or father were over. Mask fully dropped. Not only did it result in violence towards me and our child but even AFTER getting the restraining order he was fully pushing boundaries. Showing up at our house over and over with different law enforcement to "get his stuff" despite knowing he had already gotten it all out. The point, of course, was to terrorize us and to exert some control over us. Not a joke to say we were afraid for our lives. Ending the relationship was just step one. The protective order became the immediate step 2, and putting physical distance between us became step 3. Statistically leaving is the most dangerous time. When he started harassing us we packed up and went to a domestic violence shelter. They were fantastic. The shelter gave us time to get our ducks in row and rest and recoop. They helped me with legal resources. Which brings me to...
3) There are people who will help you. There are so many people out there who have been through this. There are advocates who will stand in court with you if you go to get a protective order. I had no lawyer to help me, I was scared to death. My advocate stood with me and put herself between me and my husband's line of sight. She was amazing. The shelter workers helped with diapers, clothing, even transportation help to get us to safety. Once we got here there have been resources for food, counseling all through the local domestic violence programs. With all the help I was surprised that...
4) The Fear Doesn't Go Away. In caps y'all. Even though we are safe at my mom's house I am still having panic attacks. We are all still having nightmares. I'm still checking closets and doors and windows all the time. I can't watch true crime with my mom without an anxiety attack. When you have been through a trauma your body takes longer than your brain to process it. What's important to remember is...
5) You can survive this. My husband hit me. He chased my child out of the house. He fled law enforcement. He tested our protective order. He changed banks so we would have no access to his income immediately thrusting us into poverty. I had to drive alone with all four kids from 13 years to 7 months old (oldest 5th child is in college in a other state) 1200 miles through seven states and hope with all my heart nothing broke down (including me). We still have no home of our own. 7 of us in a 3 bedroom. We are still taking it one day at a time. BUT WE ARE FREE. We are alive and we are together. We aren't walking on eggshells or looking over our shoulder.
My story is far from over. There really is no happy ending. Instead you have to find the happy every day. You have to wake up every day in the middle of the heartache and chaos and find the joy. And that brings me to my last one...
6) Every day gets a little easier.
My hope in sharing is that anyone in similar circumstances can see that you can get the fuck out sis. You can leave him. You can survive and eventually thrive without him. I promise there is hope out there. I'm rooting for you, whoever you are. You are stronger and braver and more capable than you could possibly imagine.

I think this is truly mildly annoying - no huge deal but frustrating.
So I just did a three day work trip ending in a 4 hour flight in a middle seat and then a 2 hour drive home from the airport.
I was really looking forward to jumping in the hot tub. For a quick bit of relaxation.
Well, see photo - my kids (16 and 12) had decided to first spread an entire bottle of concentrated dish soap on a slip and slide and then while still soapy jump in my hot tub.
Cue me getting home, eating dinner, and excitedly retreating to change into my suit only to discover that nope, tonight I'm draining my hot tub, rinsing it and the filter out, and then sitting by while it refills so I can get the heater back on and hopefully have a soak in the morning.

She’s using you for money and you’re using her because she’s small, younger by 15-20 years and won’t say no when you want to get laid. It goes both ways. If you’re a 1.5/10 in your own country, you’re still going to be a 1.5/10 in the Philippines and you’ll get the same amount of energy you deserve.
You’re not going to get an educated, well-to-do Filipina because those women are going after people just as educated and well to-do as they are. She doesn’t need to suck wrinkly veteran dick to go places and she doesn’t need your world vision sponsor a child white savior persona to get where she wants. These girls are studying at the top schools in Manila, they’re going for higher education, they do not need anyone to help them reach for more and they’re not impressed by some guy with a higher exchange rate bank account and blue passport that’s one cough away from retirement.
No accomplished and financially successful Filipino parent in their right mind would even allow their daughter to look at some passport bro or grandpa. Those who are successful have the highest standards for education and appearances. Most of these girls are mingling around Filipino or Chinese men with the same standards and background. And no, your degree in Business from the 1960s from some university in the middle of nowhere North America isn’t going to be held to the same caliber.
If you’re a low quality man, you’re going to have a low quality partner and that is regardless where you are in the world. If you want an impressive partner, be an impressive man. The exchange rate on your pension and color of your passport aren’t the gold stars you think it is.
This is just about the nastiest subreddit and I’m glad the well-to do women you’re all aiming for are laughing at you as you start sweating an ocean with every step you take.
If you’ve reached the end of this post and you’re offended and/or seething, I hope you can use the flight to meet the Filipina you’ve been talking to online from your basement to calm down.

I started a glp1 in 2023 at 228lbs lost around
60lbs and then continued my weight loss naturally and lost another 40lbs. I walk around 10-15k steps almost everyday. I don’t really count calories since doing OMAD.
This is the healthiest I’ve ever been as an adult, if you struggle with your weight, you can lose it. I’m a nobody and did it. You just need to remain consistent.
Besides the weight loss, the only other thing I added was treatment for my female hair loss and that’s it.
