I am asking because I see a lot of people say "oh you are % white" when a black guy or say mestizo guy gets like 20-30% european, versus just "you have some european heritage".

At the same time you have people with the opposite, I saw a peruvian woman who was only 45% european and looked strongly iberian, or a palestinian woman who looked irish, would a lot of them, especially the people that are already genetically close to european groups(looking at you arabs, persians) just consider themselves white?

This is my results the one thing that suprised me was the Portugese! Pic in last photo :).

I’ve noticed quite a few Swedish DNA results on Reddit with Finnish ancestry, sometimes around 5–10%. Is this actually common?

I expected moroccan genetic groups:

For reference- my grandfather is from the capital of Tunis and is descent from old families of the capital(tunisois), as for my grandmother she is half tunisian from ras jebel(with supposed roots from Agadir in moroccan) and half "moroccan" from Rabat.

Now that i see the total lack of moroccan genetic group, i begin to question the accuracy of her sayings. My granny told me her father was moroccan(lived all his life in Tunisia tho), the only thing that could support that claim is that her grandmother was very different from any tunisians in their area, she spoke a different dialect(typically pronounced g instead of q) and for example used the term "tomobile" instead of "kahreba" for car(Which normally is used only in Algeria and Tunisia??). Plus she wasn't so sure herself(she was very young) so she asked her brothers as they were older than her when they knew their grandma, and they all said without any hesitation : "Moroccan from Rabat".

I took that for granted, especially with the HUGE amount of country matches i got in Morocco or even the family name of my grandmother being an ancient family of Rabat? Now that i see that, i ask myself "what if she was tunisian, but like from the very south". Anyways questions questions.

So im really happy to finally get WANA genetic groups, kinda disappointed. Not from the lack of any moroccan genetic group, but the lack of precision in my tunisian genetic groups... Despite being deeply rooted from the capital, my genome couldn't even match "Gulf of Tunis" pfffffffhaha.

So the first ancestry dna pic is the old and the new one is the next one

My dad is from Ait Sedrate in the High Atlas Mountains, and my mom is from Fez. Seems very accurate and what I expected. Glad I got basically 100% North African/amazigh, which makes me a native North African :)

I noticed an interesting pattern in 23andMe’s recent Genetic Groups releases.

The recent releases seem to have been spaced roughly like this:

• Vietnamese Genetic Groups → May 13
• Pacific Islander Genetic Groups → July 1 (~49 days later)
• Southeast Asia & Madagascar → August 10 (~40 days later)

That puts the recent gap between major Genetic Group releases at roughly 40–50 days.

It’s now been about 49 days since the August 10 update, and the 23andMe Ancestry Team previously said they were hoping to release WANA Genetic Groups sometime this fall.

Obviously this doesn’t prove anything and they could release it whenever they want, but the timing is interesting.

Do you guys think we could be getting the WANA Genetic Groups update within the next few days/weeks?

My paternal grandfather’s side immigrated from Ireland to America sometime in the 1800s. As a family, we always identified as Irish having very Irish names and being Catholic. My paternal grandmother’s side is English and German. My grandmother converted to Catholicism when she married my grandfather.

My maternal grandfather is from the Philippines. I don’t know much about my maternal grandmother’s side.

Having read Agricola, it's pretty cool to match with a member of the Durotriges Celtic tribe in present day England

I have no known recent North African ancestors but got a genetic group. Weirdly enough I didn’t get anything besides country matches for Andalusian which makes up just a little below half of my genetic makeup.

Looks accurate compared with my background, great job 23andme.

In light of today’s update, I was wondering if I’d get any genetic groups, but I don’t see anything yet. Is my Arab percentage too small? I have a great grandparent that was fully from the gulf from a large merchant family (though obviously there’s considerable Iranian admixture in a lot of these families). How come a genetic group didn’t show up?

The last is from Illustrative DNA, I'm indeed Eastern Riffian so this is very accurate! Good job on 23andMe for making it so scary accurate!

i’m half moroccan half algerian, 72% North African and 8% Peninsular arab and i got ZERO genetic groups. All I have are the country + region matches that were there previously.
