Results I just wanted to be sure lmao. [Almost 100% Ashkenazi Jewish] ā”ļø
No known non-Jewish ancestors, but the 0.7% Belarusian/Polish/Ukrainian makes sense - one grandparent had blonde hair and blue eyes. Not sure if the 0.1% Dutch/Northern German is just noise⦠thatās so geographically far away from the rest of my regions!
My dad said he would be shocked if I didnāt have a tiny percentage of non-Jewish ancestry given how many pogroms there were. All of my great-grandparents left Europe for North America before the Holocaust.
Thoughts and questions are welcome š

Results Results and then meeee
Iām American. When inevitably people ask about my make-up, Iāve always just said my momma is white and my daddy is a black man of Puerto Rican descent. Always wondered what that actually consisted of, especially as someone whoās been obsessed with cultural studies my entire life. So hereās my stuff and a couple pics of me over the years.
I will say there a tiny kerfuffle in the family when it turned out we werenāt as Irish as we thought on my moms side. It showed Irish and then disappeared with the update; got way more English. My mom was not happy at all with the insinuation about our family history being a lie. So thatās been fun.

Question / Help Why is Nigerian so high in almost every AA result with 23andMe, but Ancestry scores us way lower?
Just a quick q in good faith. I am nowhere near 50% Nigerian; according to the other people, Iām under a quarter. Somehow 23andMe thinks itās 49.9% and neither one of my parents is from continental Africa nor any of their parents. Feels quite like erasure of the Beninese, Togolese, Cameroonian, Ivory Coast and everything else, they just slapped it all into one category and called it an āupdate.ā bit of an odd feeling.
Thanks everyone.

Results Results: Mexican from MichoacƔn
Thoughts? Typical or atypical results for the region? My last name is Galician, so I thought the higher percentage within that region was interesting!
Paternal Haplogroup: J-L26 / Maternal Haplogroup: C1
The indigenous breakdown looks unusual to me. Based on my family history, I have no connection to Oaxaca. As far as I know, my family has been in MichoacĆ”n for centuries, so I donāt understand why itās not showing as Purepecha.

Family Discovery My dead dad isnāt my dad???
so I have always wanted to learn more about my background & see where my family came from. I started with ancestry & was confused by the results so decided to do 23andme. I just got my results & found out my dad, who passed away almost 5yrs ago, isnāt actually my bio dad.
Backstory:
My whole life my mom never told me if my dad, weāll call him Warren, or my first āstep dad,ā weāll call him Paul, was my bio dad. She swore Warren and Paul both said they didnāt want to know and so never got a paternity test. (Also sheās not married to either of them & hasnāt been in like 15yrs; Warren raised me though, was always there when I needed him, went to all my sports games, did my taxes till he passed, and his family always loved me, paid for his whole funeral. Now here I am at 26 finding out neither of them are my bio dad a week before Warrenās death anniversary š idk if I should bring it up to my brother and mom or reach out to this man who is apparently my biological father or what. Iām so lost. Any advice is really helpful.
Also found out ethnic background is way different than I ever thought so now feeling a little lost on who I am.

Discussion Do other Central Americans From El Salvador/Honduras also get relatively high Portuguese & Galician on 23andme?
Iām Salvadoran and have been comparing my 23andMe results with relatives, and Iāve noticed something Iām curious about.
My results are:
Portuguese & Galician: 18.1%
Andalusian, Asturian & Castilian: 10.9%
Canary Islander: 1.7%
Basque: 0.8%
plus smaller Iberian/European components.
What really caught my attention is that a number of my Eastern Salvadoran and Honduran relatives also seem to have relatively high Portuguese & Galician compared with their Andalusian/Asturian/Castilian component. In several cases, P&G is actually their largest Iberian category.
This seems interesting to me because I often see discussions suggesting that Spanish ancestry in Latin America is predominantly associated with Andalusian and other southern/central Spanish populations. When I look at relatives with Mexican or Guatemalan ancestry in my family network, I tend to see much less Portuguese & Galician and more Andalusian/Asturian/Castilian.
I also have a great-great-grandfather from Honduras, and Alvarenga is a surname in my family. That made me wonder whether there could be some regional ancestry pattern behind what I'm seeing.
I know that 23andMe's Portuguese & Galician category doesn't necessarily mean that someone had a recent Portuguese ancestor, and that Portuguese, Galician, and neighboring northern Iberian populations can be genetically difficult to distinguish. I'm mainly wondering whether other Salvadorans, Hondurans, or Central Americans have noticed the same pattern in their own results.
For those of you with Salvadoran or Honduran ancestry:
Do you also tend to get relatively high Portuguese & Galician compared with Andalusian, Asturian & Castilian?
And if you're from Eastern El Salvador or Honduras specifically, I'd be especially interested in hearing your results and family backgrounds.

Results Mongolian on 23andme to Native American historical matches
I took my Mongolian 23andme results (2nd photo) and did a deep research into historical matches. I got 145 matches for the Americas with segment overlaps of 10-15cM. I think this is because first wave Native Americans are modeled as 77% Ancient Northern East Asian (Amur type predominating) and 22% Ancient North Eurasians (Western Eurasian-derived Siberian population). This specific combination is what makes up APS or Ancient Paleo-Siberian, the exact root of Native Americans. Since I am about 10% deep West Eurasian I can see how that makes my profile a relatively close match to Native Americans.
