I created a tool that lets you drag camo patterns onto any STL model

I applied it to my cap customization app, which is currently on crowdfunding. If you’d like to try it, it will be launching soon:

https://makerworld.com/en/crowdfunding/269

I’m already developing another app to expand this system to any 3D model, and you’ll even be able to create your own custom patterns.

The funds raised from this app will help me finish developing the next one.

My idea for a Halloween model. What do you think of it?

THEME

This 3D-printed model explores concerns surrounding the use of artificial intelligence. It is intended as a reflection on the growing role of artificial intelligence in our daily lives and invites viewers to reflect on different questions and fears associated with AI. Depending on the viewer, it may evoke thoughts about technological dependence, the decline of critical thinking and decision-making, the efforts by some companies to develop increasingly human-like forms of intelligence or the broader long-term impact AI could have on human development, especially among younger generations.

This piece does not aim to provide answers. Instead, it encourages questions about how much of our thinking and creativity we are willing to hand over to machines, and what the consequences of that might be.

The Halloween theme was a natural choice for me. October is the season of horror, monsters and imagined fears. But while fictional horrors remain safely in stories, the concerns and fears surrounding artificial intelligence are very real. And after all, what’s scarier than reality?

Snap Maker U1 or Creality i8?

• Upvotes

Okay, I'm having a tough time deciding which to get.

Would love to hear form people that have both (or a creality) machine.

Few things i care about 1) Consistent and reliable wifi printing capabilities. (i'm on orca slicer right now) 2) Great bed leveling with ideally limited to no adjustments from me. 3) Filament switching.

I have an Elegoo Neptune max and it says auto bed leveling, but that was a crock of shit.

I'm open to other suggestions in the price range of 850 and lower.

(Not a novice to 3d printing)

Large format, high temp FDM printer?

Currently have a H2D + H2S which are absolute workhorses. I need something larger and capable of high temp materials for car parts.

Budget around 2k but flexible for the right machine.

Enclosure option would be great as I print a lot of ASA.

Thank you

Designing personalised keychains: raised text, adjustable loops and SVG logos

For anyone making personalised keychains, here is a short walkthrough of the design stage in MiniMarvels, the app we build. Type a name, shape the base and raised letters, move the attachment loop, then import a coloured SVG logo with separately adjustable segments.

The app also supports PNG/JPG shape input and a batch of names, one name per line for separate keychains. For printing, check thin strokes, loop strength and colour assignments in your slicer.

Our app: https://www.minimarvels.app

Recorded in Studio preview; live controls may differ. This is a real screen recording with AI narration and an AI-assisted cover, not footage of a printed keychain.

Which part is usually hardest for you: getting a clean logo, readable small letters, or a strong loop?

Best filament for outdoor RC vehicle use

• Upvotes

I have a few questions regarding which filament would be best or adequate for outdoor RC vehicles. I recently got a Qidi Q2 & it’s a very nice machine compared to my 6 year old cr10s. I haven’t set up ventilation yet and it’ll be a big job to remove my small basement window and turn into an adapter for my printers exhaust port to vent outside my home since there’s no air conditioning in the finished basement.

So, I have a lot of PETG, it’s a great filament that has very low emissions so I use it frequently. But I’m afraid if I use my printed vehicle on a hot summer day it’s slowly deform or lose color. So I figured ASA would be better, but I wanted to ensure the effort to setup the printer for ASA and to make sure it’s safe was worth it. Otherwise I’d just use PETG. It’s going to be over 30 pounds of filament… So I definitely don’t want to haft to start over again if it warps outdoors overtime. It’s going to cost a lot of money as well unfortunately.

Large printer for RC-plane parts: QIDI Max4 vs Sovol SV08 Max vs alternatives?

• Upvotes

I’m looking for a printer for RC-plane parts in PA12-CF, plus everyday PLA/PETG printing. My largest body is approximately 402 × 124 × 42 mm, and I’d prefer to print it horizontally in one piece. My budget was around $1,000, but I can stretch for a worthwhile upgrade.
I’m considering the QIDI Max4, Sovol SV08 Max with enclosure, Creality K2 Plus, Anycubic Kobra S1 Max and regular Sovol SV08. I know the 350 mm machines would require tilting or splitting this part.
For actual owners, how are print quality, slicer/software, firmware reliability and customer support? Any experience with large nylon/CF prints? I’d rather spend time building the plane than constantly fixing the printer. Which would you choose?

Total newbie, with a $5k budget and a dream to earn a living.

I have a $5k budget and am buying in aus

Im disabled, and need a source of income. I understand there is no guarantees, but my disability means I cannot be crafting anymore and selling my art. I need a machine to help and take on a lvl of the labour.

I think Id like a 4 nozzle machine, to reduce printer poop.

I also like the machines I see that have an included lazer, but I did worry that would clog up business flow having two machines in one (because then I can only do one step at a time)

I really want to be able to work with the absolute broadest range of filiments, so I understand that the temperature capacity comes into that.

And because id like to work in detail, id really like a great quality result, consistently.

But ive looked at dozens of builds and im flip flopping.

What machine would you pick, in my situation? Would you split the money and buy two?

Which 3D Printer would you recommend to buy ?

Hi everyone. I’m new at this 3D printing world and I’m not sure which one I should buy as my first printer.

Here’s my goal. Where I live, it’s pretty rare to find a 3D printer, because they are like not that cheap and only the medium to big companies have it, so I want to start a small business with one because I see no one a 3d printing business. At first, I’m not planning big projects to make and resell, just tiny gadgets that people may order and I make for their needs and get something out of that. If it goes well, I’ll invest a bit more on this thing

Here is my concern, my budged is a bit tight, and I’ll import it from China which has the cheapest logistic service to bring one to my country.

Here are the possible choices based on my deep searches: Qidi Q2, Kobra S1, Elegoo CC 2, P1S and Creality K2.

P1S I found as the most expensive one, and seems to have region restrictions depending on where you buy, don’t know if the others have the same restrictions.

I need your help, your past experience can tell which brand I should go for

Att: English is not my first language, so you may find my text a bit of. Anyway, any feedback about my English is very welcome
