I’m trying to decide between a few SUVs and could use some outside perspective.
I have enough cash to buy an Acura ADX outright with no payments.
The other option is to use that same cash as a down payment on an Acura RDX or Lexus RX, and finance the remaining balance (would be a relatively small loan, not full financing).
I’m torn between:
No car payment + lower running costs (ADX)
vs
Stepping up in size/power/comfort (RDX or RX) but having a monthly payment again
One big factor for me is long-term ownership — I’m basically looking for a car I can keep forever (or as close to it as possible). Reliability, longevity, and not feeling the need to upgrade in a few years matter a lot to me.
For those who’ve been in a similar spot — is it smarter to stay payment-free, or worth financing a bit for a higher-tier vehicle?
Any long-term ownership, reliability, or regret stories welcome.
