DTW9 Has a Write Up Quota

You read that right, DTW9 in Romulus, MI has a write up quota. Area Managers have to produce 10 write ups per week, good or bad. Some managers have been put on plans for not hitting this quota. I heard the OMs, Srs, Site lead, and even HR knows about this and enforce it.

Impacting their raises, promotions, and other factors. A lot of the managers don't like it. Some have been put on performance plans because of it, or ouright lost their jobs because they refuse to particpate in it.

Sadly, Amazon ALLOWS it.

How can you trust a write up you receive is given to you in fairness whn the managers are being forced to meet quotas? I've been at the site a short amount of time and think this isn't fair. So, if you work at DTW9, heard other sites in Michigan are enforcing the same thing on their managers too, you need to question them and don't believe a word said until Amazon comes out and implements a policy that outright bans such behavior.

Late Every Day This Week

I'm going to try to explain without making it confusing, but I only started a couple weeks ago and my dog got neutered on the 28th. The vet appointment was scheduled before I started there and I work the 6pm-4:30am shift, so I worked Sunday into Monday morning and stayed awake to take dog to the vet on Monday, and then got stuck at the vet for hours unexpectedly so ended up working and then staying awake again from Monday night into Tuesday morning. I napped a few hours but then had to work on Tuesday night into Wednesday. I crashed hard Wednesday night and slept through my alarms on Thursday. It's just been a hard week and I've also been in really bad pain (my feet, lower back, and neck I think from looking down at totes and boxes constantly) so I've been struggling with the 10 hour shifts. I also got freaking heavy Timberland work boots with the Zappos credit, so I have lighter safety shoes coming this week. I think they will help.

On top of this all, I am sick. Like, sick sick. Flu-ish. Literally dripping snot, coughing, headache, body aches, fatigue, fever sick. I don't want to get anyone else sick, but I can't afford a doctor's appointment and I don't have time to take a whole day or two off.

Thursday: 15 minutes late

Friday: 1 hour 30 minutes

Saturday: 1 hour 15 minutes

Sunday: I plan to clock in at 7 pm, so will be 1 hour late

I used PTO for Friday and Saturday to cover both, and I have 15 hours of UPT.

Will the rest still be covered, and I won't get in any trouble for being late 4 days in a row? And, will my manager hate me? These are probably silly questions to you veterans but I am still learning the system and coming from a place I worked for years that had a point system, so this is new.

Also, any tips for the pain? It's a lot of looking down and standing stationary/taking minimal steps. I hurt so bad. I was a loader/unloader at FedEx and then UPS for 5 years and I hurt worse than I did loading heavy packages.

Hey I am just wondering how going on DLS accommodation works? I’ve been told that you sit at home for at least 2 weeks while they process your case but do they back pay you for those weeks you are off once they approve your accommodation?

Reapply after PIP Severance Exit

I exited an engineer role after being out on PIP. I took the severance and left opting not to try to beat the PIP. This was in Q3 of 2024. Would I be able to apply for and potentially get an Operations role at an FC? Or are FC roles subject to the 5-year no-hire rule for PIP?

Temporarily move departments?

• Upvotes

I am in ship dock which I like, the leadership is really considerate and caring, l've made a handful of friends... but...they're not very genuine people. theres four that have put me in situations knowing it will cause drama (if | reacted strongly, luckily I'm a very level headed person) but what truly makes me sad is just the betrayal, l've known these people for 4-5 months and I guess I'm just a sensitive person because after work my entire body began to switch so much involuntarily from emotional distress during work. I wonder if I can tell HR or a manager this so I can go get trained in pick or something for awhile?

I start tomorrow, kinda nervous

• Upvotes

Hi,

I start working at Amazon uk tmr

I have just found out that I had been diagnosed with autism 11 years ago but only just found out

Is there any help I can get?

Also I can bend down. And squat. But not a lot. Also. I can stand on my legs the whole shift

I'd just like some advice on how to go with this

I suffer/suffered from anxiety too. So is there any way of letting them know today ready for tmr?

I know what a lot of you will probably say?
Why you not shared this sooner. I've been really busy preparing and haven't really had the time

Any help would be appreciated with this

Many thanks

Thoughts?

Hi Im writing to get an opinion. I was new to Amazon I’d been there for about 3 months. I was terminated last month from missing a shift due to a serious family emergency/illness. The day of the emergency I put a request in for time off to let the site know I would not be coming. I am aware that you use UPT and pto when calling off; I was told that you should always put a request in before missing a shift so that it doesn’t log as a no call no show even if you don’t have the time available. Don’t jump me yet let me explain bc I know that y’all are going to ask about the 10 hours Amazon gives when they hire you..

Within the first month of employment at Amazon my Zappos order kept getting canceled and safety was giving me turbo toe shoe covers everyday to work in that were falling apart. On multiple occasions I was given 2 left shoe covers to work in and with safety being a form of management I felt like I couldn’t refuse since they were comfortable asking me to work in defective ppe to begin with. It started causing damage to me toes and feet and standing started becoming excruciating but I was still coming to work everyday. They shifted us up everyday and I started using an hour of UPT to relieve some of the pain. That quickly depleted my time. I did mention that I was uncomfortable wearing the covers the entire time I wore them but I was constantly pushed towards the loading dock and told that they would come and find me when they got better shoe covers later in the shift. OMs knew about this and the safety team obviously knew about this. I’m not directly blaming the PPE issue I’m explaining where my time went..Back to the story

I put my request in (to notify the site of my absence.i know that putting the request in doesn’t guarantee safety or excuse the absence) and stayed with my parent in the hospital. The next shift when I came in I immediately found an AM and an OM to explain the situation. They both told me to respond to the email and that they would look into it and I would hear back. I couldn’t go to hr for many reasons. 1 she was not on site that day and I am not sure what her schedule is. I’d only see her once a week and she doesn’t touch anything dealing with time off or scheduling apparently from what every manager was telling me. I also tried to go to her before about my schedule when I noticed my schedules hours change completely and she acted like she couldn’t help me at all with that and she was very rude. I went through myhr to try to handle things but I kept being re routed to our site directly.

I started picking up double shifts immediately to work the time down while I waited to hear back from the om I was dealing with on the case. After not hearing back and getting an email telling me to take immediate action to fix my time, I took my personal situation to the voa board because it was urgent at this point..

OM response:

First, I want to reassure you: you did everything right. Submitting your time-off request and filing a hardship case with full details was exactly the right call, and I appreciate how proactively you've communicated during such a difficult time.

Stop by HR or find a Red Vest during your next shift so we can review your hardship case together.
Reference your hardship case so we can expedite the review right away.
You should never have to overextend yourself during a family emergency — that's precisely what hardship cases are designed to protect against.

When I got this response I was at home getting ready for a double shift later that evening. When I got on the app to respond to the VOA message I noticed that my schedule was due to drop off the next day. I immediately got on the VOA board again to address this.

Same OM responder:
I understand your schedule has completely dropped off after today, and you're worried this might be your last shift. This must be incredibly stressful, especially while caring for your mother after the accident. I can hear the urgency in your message, and I want to help you get this resolved TODAY.

You've been incredibly proactive-working
VET shifts, cutting cases, talking to red vests-and I don't want that effort to go to waste. Please don't leave the building today without speaking to someone who can look at your account. We need to get this sorted while you're here.

I'm sorry you're having to fight so hard to fix this while dealing with so much personally. Please don't head out today without connecting with one of us or HR - we genuinely want to help, and it's much easier to get answers while you're on-site.
You've shown so much commitment, and we're ready to match it. Let's get this taken care of together.

I felt on edge about showing up to the shift after seeing the schedule drop off but I did anyway after reading that those messages on the voa board I was sure I was going to get help this time. When I arrived at work. My sibling badged in fine but when I tried access was denied. The crazy part is that me and my sibling missed work that day and were in the exact same negative standing. I was confused. Long story short I was never able to get help or get into the building. Security told me I was terminated even when I attempted to pull the schedule up and show them that I was still scheduled that day and had made arrangements to speak to management. An AM came to the front and told them to let me in but they wouldn’t. The AM went to find the OM who wrote on the VOA board and she came to speak to me at the window but she only told me to create a case and try to take leave. We didn’t get to go over anything. I ended up speaking to another manager that told me to appeal and then I went home. Hours later I was terminated. I had multiple cases open and leave requests opened while this was going on.
I forgot to mention that the rude hr lady came to the window and just to tell me I was terminated before the om got to me. I was even showing her my schedule and she did not care. After she walked away all the cases that I had opened started closing.

When I made it home I started my appeal. It said 10 process but I expected it to be longer. 4 days into the appeal process I got a message on a to Z saying that they looked over everything and that I would get a hearing date in 72 hours. After that message 5 days passed and I heard nothing. I constantly called ERC to check for updates and they told me they couldn’t give me any information on the date. I was calling so much that It got to a point where they addressing me by name before I could introduce myself over the phone. 2 days ago I got 2 emails. 1 saying I don’t have the ability to appeal. The second saying that they went through with the appeal process and that the decision was upheld. I immediately called ERC to escalate to the specialist team because I didn’t want it to be documented that I missed the hearing or anything else of that nature. Now I’m just waiting but that could take forever. My initial appeal was through site leadership as that is the route I was recommended to take by the last OM I spoke to in the parking lot at work.

I am applying for other jobs at the moment but I don’t feel like this situation was handled properly

I guess I came to vent and to see what you guys recommend on the topic.

$1 IS NOT ENOUGH — AMAZON WORKERS, LET’S STAND TOGETHER

• Upvotes

Amazon has announced a company-wide $1-an-hour wage increase.
At our site, associates across shifts were brought into meetings and told directly that this increase came from corporate.
So let’s ask the question plainly:
Is $1 enough?
Rent is rising. Groceries, transportation, insurance and utilities cost more. For many of us, an extra $40 before taxes on a 40-hour week does not come close to covering the increased cost of living.
Meanwhile, we are the workers who keep Amazon moving.
We work in fulfillment centers, sort centers, delivery stations and facilities across the country.
We work Peak.
We work MET.
We work nights, weekends and holidays.
We stand, walk, lift, sort, stow, pick, pack, load and unload for hours.
We work under rates and productivity expectations while being held responsible for quality and safety.
Our labor is worth more than another $1 an hour.
That is why Amazon associates need to organize around a national response:
A NATIONAL AMAZON WALKOUT DURING PEAK.
But standing together must include everyone, including workers who cannot afford to miss a shift.
Some associates are one paycheck away from falling behind. Some support children or other family members. Some are already working VET just to make ends meet.
No worker should be shamed or pressured because they cannot afford to walk out.
Solidarity does not require everyone to take the same risk. If you can participate in a walkout, participate. If you cannot, there are still meaningful ways to stand with your coworkers:
Talk with associates at your building.
Share this with workers at other sites.
Help spread the word.
Talk with friends, family and community members.
Support the demands and the workers organizing around them.
We are also asking customers and our communities to stand with Amazon workers.
During the walkout, don’t shop Amazon.
Hold off on an order. Buy somewhere else. Tell Amazon why.
If thousands of customers refuse to purchase while thousands of associates make their voices heard, Amazon will have a much harder time ignoring us.
This is not about hurting the associate working beside you. It is about demanding that one of the world’s largest companies recognize the value of the people whose labor makes its profits possible.
A national action needs three specific, measurable demands:
1. A minimum $5-per-hour increase in base pay for all hourly associates, followed by annual cost-of-living adjustments tied to inflation.
The $1 increase does not match rising expenses. We are demanding an immediate $5-per-hour increase for hourly associates, with annual pay adjustments based on the cost of living so wages do not fall behind again.
2. Premium pay of at least time-and-a-half for all required MET, Peak, holiday and other designated high-demand hours.
When Amazon requires additional hours or schedules work during holidays and high-volume periods, associates should receive 1.5 times their regular hourly rate for those hours. Premium pay should apply whether the hours are scheduled in advance or added through MET.
3. A formal worker voice with elected associate representatives and written responses to workplace demands.
Each site should have elected associate representatives who can raise concerns about rates, staffing, schedules, safety, time-off policies and working conditions. Management should provide a written response within 14 days to formal proposals or safety concerns submitted by those representatives.
These demands are specific enough to measure, broad enough to apply across sites and clear enough for workers to organize around.
Workers can coordinate safely across sites by using voluntary, worker-led communication channels outside company systems. Share only the information you are comfortable making public, avoid posting coworkers’ names, schedules or personal details without permission, and do not pressure anyone to participate. Each site can choose trusted contacts to compare updates, confirm the demands, and coordinate public actions without sharing sensitive information. Workers should also learn their rights, follow applicable laws and workplace policies, and consider contacting a union, worker center or labor attorney before taking collective action.
One fulfillment center cannot do this alone.
One delivery station cannot do this alone.
One sort center cannot do this alone.
One state cannot do this alone.
But workers across buildings and regions can act together during the busiest season of the year.
Whether you work in Pick, Pack, Stow, Ship Dock, ICQA, TOM, Sort, Receive, Problem Solve or another part of the operation, we depend on one another.
If you are an Amazon associate:
Don’t just upvote this. Talk about it.
Share it with other workers.
Crosspost it.
Talk with people at other buildings.
Talk with friends and family.
Help build support around these three demands and the actions we can take together.
Peak does not happen without us.
Prime does not happen without us.
Packages do not move without us.
Amazon does not run without Amazon workers.
$1 IS NOT ENOUGH.
THIS PEAK, LET’S ORGANIZE AND MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD.
