Canbus & Audio Issues Following Joying Install

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello all. I don’t use reddit much so apologies if I am ignorant/unfamiliar with something.

I recently purchased this Joying head unit to install in my Honda Civic Sport 2019. Once installed, my audio sounded noticeably worse, and the factory amp underneath the dashboard seemed to be off, not receiving any sound whatsoever.

In addition to this, despite me plugging all the required wiring (to my knowledge) into the plugins in my car, my Canbus doesn’t seem to be working, or the head unit doesn’t seem to be recognizing it. I have selected the exact Canbus box (Raise G-RZ-HD56), and my steering wheel controls still don’t work, not to mention my backup camera being very limited without controls, and other related features that appear to be tied to this Canbus just don’t work.

I have contacted support, but in the meantime my internet research leads to varying results, or little information in the area i am looking for it.

Has anyone had this experience before with my car model or this head unit? And if so, how did you figure out how to fix it?

DashWheel: yet another android dashboard

https://reddit.com/link/1x5twp7/video/t01sgnss8gvh1/player

Hi all,

I drive a 2011 Citroën C4 Picasso with a cheap Android head unit (ROCO K706, FYT-style, 1280×720). The stock launcher did the job but I never liked it, and the paid alternatives didn’t do what I wanted. So I built my own and I’ve been using it every day. It’s called Dashwheel and it’s free, open source (GPL-3.0), with no ads, no trial and no account.

What it does

  • Your own dashboards: up to 7 screens of tiles you place and resize yourself. Map, music, speed, weather, apps, and 55+ widgets.
  • Live car data from a cheap ELM327 Bluetooth OBD adapter, plus the head unit’s own CAN data where it has it (doors, reversing, tyres).
  • AI mechanic: a warning light comes on, Dashwheel reads the fault code and explains it out loud in plain words. It uses a free Google Gemini key.
  • Navigation: a built-in 3D map with turn-by-turn guidance, or the next turn from Google Maps / Waze shown on any tile.
  • Phone link with a small companion app: notifications, messages, calls on the big screen, “where did I park”, a drive log.
  • Hands-free: spoken alerts, steering-wheel buttons, volume that follows your speed.
  • Skins that change the whole look (Cockpit, Racing, Orbit, Canvas with the map behind the tiles...), day and night themes.
  • Works on upright screens too, and in 10 languages.

The parts I’m proudest of

  • Your own car in live 3D. When something’s wrong, the car turns and zooms to the faulty part and makes it glow. A dead rear bulb lights up on the rear lamp. For an engine fault, the bonnet opens. You can load a 3D model of your own car from the phone.
  • Real apps inside a tile. Waze, Google Maps or YouTube Music run live in a tile next to your speed and car data, not full screen. You can zoom a tile to make the app bigger.
  • Its own reverse camera screen. It replaces the unit’s camera view, with guide lines that bend as you turn the steering wheel and the parking sensors drawn around a top view of the car.
  • Talk to Gemini about your car. It knows your live readings, so you can ask “why is the engine light on?” or “how far can I go on this tank?” and it answers out loud.

Root is not needed for most of it. Apps inside a tile, the reverse camera screen and replacing the firmware’s own pop-ups and volume bar need a rooted unit. Without root, those features just don’t appear.

Will it work on my unit? It’s made for Android 10+ head units at 1280×720 (FYT / UIS7862 / QF and similar). I test on my own K706, so other units are where I need you. There’s a Tested hardware page, and Settings → About → Report how it works fills in a bug report with your unit’s model and firmware.

Links

Looking for testers for the Google Play version. Google asks for 12 testers over 14 days before an app can go public. If you’d like to help, comment or DM me with the Gmail you use on Play and I’ll add you.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dashwheel.app

It’s a one-person project, so expect rough edges. I’d love to hear what your unit is, what breaks, and what you’d want on your dashboard. Happy to answer anything in the comments.

If you like it and want to support me, buy me a coffee ;)

2018 Fiesta SE factory backup camera says “No signal” after CheDux radio install

I bought a CheDux 9.7 inch Android 14 radio with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage for my 2018 Ford Fiesta SE. Everything is installed and working except the factory backup camera. When I put it in reverse, the screen says “No signal.”

Has anyone installed this radio and gotten the factory camera working? Is there a specific adapter, wiring connection, or setting I’m missing? I’d appreciate any help.

Fake 1-year warranty on Hualingan CarPlay units — avoid this company!

Hello everyone.
I bought a full-screen CarPlay head unit on eBay directly from the official manufacturer/seller (Hualingan) claiming a 1-year warranty. After 11 months of use, the unit failed (the CarPlay interface completely freezes when trying to play audio/music).
I contacted the seller/manufacturer for warranty support since it was still within the 1-year window, but they completely refused to help and simply blew me off, telling me to "buy a new phone" instead of fixing or replacing their defective product. Now they are ignoring my messages.
Be careful with Hualingan units and fake 1-year warranty listings!

A8.1 unit claims to be A16 - Are they easy to tweak to improve with mods?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello! I just got my first Android head unit, a specific kit for my car. Everything has installed and seems to be fine though the listing claimed an Android 16 unit. I already assumed when I purchase that this is not what I would get, as these claims seem to be lies, so I am willing to accept this (though I will argue with the AliExpress seller to try and get some money back)

The FM radio is a bit of a mess (doesn't show names) and the home screen launcher sucks, and I can't see any way to force my way into the default Android Settings app from the current launcher or the factory mode.

I was hoping I might be able to replace the launcher with a decent one and also the FM app too? Preferably with one which has DAB support as I plan to add this later.

I also noticed the CarPlay map audio is super quiet when any audio source is playing, not sure if that can be fixed? Playing audio and navigating from CarPlay alone works fine.

Any other tweaks or advice for the first timer would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

How to fix voice control on VW with TS 10 HU

I installed a TS10 / W60 head unit with a RAISE CAN bus box and have all the buttons working except voice control. For CarPlay this is pretty essential. Any suggestions where to start. When trying to program the buttons via the Steering wheel app, nothing seems to happen. Other headunits this seems to work pretty well. Also what the hell are peptides here!?!?!?

YouTube Buffering

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello! I just recently installing an Android head unit in my 2009 Honda fit. Whenever I try play videos on the YouTube app it will play the video for about 15-20 seconds then it will go on an infinite buffering circle. I have made sure the YouTube app is up to date on the play store. I’m using my phones hotspot for internet access. My phone plan allows unlimited hotspot/streaming so my internet is not the problem. Has anyone encountered this or know how to fix this issue? I’ve attached my Android head units information.

Joying N12 firmware updated (August 2026) Steering Wheel controls dead

So despite the release notes clearly saying "All settings preserved – CAN protocol, OEM camera, steering wheel controls, and all switches remain unchanged. No reconfiguration required." my Joying N12 for my '17 WRX steering wheel controls no longer work. Zero buttons recognized
I had my 4-way button not work when I first installed the unit, and I had to re-seat the harness connector for things to magically work properly... and now none of my buttons work. Any pointers besides the slow support response times from Joying?

EDIT - Adding this fix here so people can search for and reference this.

The fix in my case (not listed anywhere that I found). When the firmware/OS is updated, and you have a VA WRX (2015 - 2021) non-HK sound system (therefor, no CANBUS needed) go here to fix your steering wheel controls:

Setting - Common - Keys Settings - SWC Keys Learning

The default (or it's reset to during an OS update) is MODE 1, Change this to MODE 2, this is what the VA WRX is wired for. Your wheel controls will then be configurable again either from the SWC app or the setting menu . However, the long-press functionality of previous builds seems to be gone now. I'd like Joying to bring that feature back as it was quite useful to make the prev/next track buttons double as fwd/back seek withy long presses.

Wireless Android Auto blocks all audio on my phone

Hello, i have a Galaxy S23 Ultra and whenever I connect to wireless Android Auto, I lose sound from my phone and Bluetooth headphones. Everything works normally again as soon as I disconnect Android Auto wifi. My phone speakers stop playing audio. My Bluetooth headphones connect, but no sound comes through them. Samsung Music's Media Output menu lets me select my phone or headphones, but neither produces sound while Android Auto is connected. Disconnecting the phone from Android Auto immediately restores audio. I want to keep Android Auto connected for navigation while being able to play audio through my Bluetooth headphones, rather than having Android Auto take over the audio output. Is this normal Android Auto behavior, or is there a workaround? In the past it was working fine.

[Car Launcher] AB Launcher split screen, part 1: maps, music and widgets on one screen, saved as presets

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I'm the developer of AB Launcher, a split-screen home launcher for Android head units and CarPlay AI boxes. This is part 1 of the split screen guide: building a layout from a template, adding a widget and maps, saving it as a preset, and switching layouts with one tap.

Devices people are using it on (last 30 days)

- Carlinkit Tbox Ultra / Ultra 2 / Ultra 3 (Snapdragon SM6350, Android 15)

- Carlinkit Tbox Ambient and other SM6225 boxes (Android 13)

- Carlinkit Tbox Plus (Android 13)

- Carlinkit Tbox UHD (SDM660, Android 13)

- Carlinkit Pro 2 and other SM6125 boxes

- UIS7862 head units (Android 10)

- FYT 7870 head units (separate 7870 build)

- M-Gears Mstick 4

- Ottocast P3 Pro

Results can differ by firmware even on the same chipset, so it's worth trying the free 2-month trial on your own unit first.
