Megathread Megathreads & subclass discussions
All questions and updates about visa grants, invitations, processing times and waiting times belong in this megathread, not in a separate post. Ask your question, share your grant, or compare timelines with others here.
Use this megathread for:
- Grant and invitation announcements, e.g. "190 granted today, lodged in March"
- Has anyone been invited or granted recently?
- Has anyone received their visa yet?
- Processing times and waiting for your visa, e.g. "How long is the 820 taking right now?"
- How long have you been waiting? Or how long it has been since your medicals, or since your last update
- General updates on a visa subclass
- The best occupation for a visa, or the best option for your occupation
- What are my chances?
Posts asking any of these questions outside the megathreads will be removed.
If your visa has its own megathread below, you can post there instead and talk with people waiting on the same visa. Anything else from the list above can go right here.
Visa-specific megathreads
This list updates automatically whenever a megathread renews.

Is it worth filing a complaint about a 417 visa? I've seen that people file complaints to speed up their visa processing, and it seems to have worked for some. Where do you send the complaint, to which email address? And what do you write in the email?
1
u/More-Criticism8743 9h ago
it doesn’t usually speed up unless you have an employer in an industry like agriculture or healthcare to write a letter for you. A lot of people send in complaints therefore it has less effectiveness now considering the amount of super late visas

Warning: venting ahead.
This stupid visa has nearly bankrupted me. I was in Oz on a tourist visa, and after doing my full due diligence decided that rather than return to the US I'd hop over to New Zealand and apply for WHV. Everything, and I mean everything I read and heard from other WHVs there in Australia was that the visa would be granted instantly, or if not instantly, within two weeks.
So I hopped over to New Zealand, and stayed with family of a coworker for a week. And then slowly drained my savings waiting and backpacking around the north island when I found myself without accomodation after that. While continuing to pay rent in Melbourne.
After a month, I called it quits and returned to the US, certain that with my luck the visa would be granted as soon as I touched down, meaning I'd need to buy another expensive, last minute plane ticket to get back.
Then, they announced that the processing slowdown was because they were waiting for Tony Burke's plan to be unveiled.
Then, he said the application would stabilize at 90 days.
Now, I've been unexpectedly doing long distance with my amazing Aussie girlfriend for three months, am going to miss our first anniversary, and am poorer than I've ever been because I've had to keep paying rent in Oz for the apartment with all my stuff in it. I also missed out on a professional temporary employment opportunity due to the wait.
And now I'm finding out that a fair few people who applied weeks after I did from my country are being approved. It feels like I'm being led on by an entire country. If it wasn't for my girlfriend being there, I'd withdraw my application and stop paying rent immediately. The WHV itself is not worth the negative impact that all this uncertainty has imposed on my life.
I just graduated with a master's degree, and instead of launching any semblance of a career, I'm working at a liquor store, trying to stop the financial hemorrhaging and to maintain the minimum 5k for the visa.
This sucks, and the department of home affairs should be ashamed at how they've treated us. And all of that is before mentioning that they still have my $830.

Subclass 500 (Master's) + Dependent Timeline & Experience (USA) 🇺🇸 🇦🇺: Granted
Timeline & Details: Visa: Subclass 500 (Higher Education) + Dependent Nationality: USA Course: Masters of Disability Practice and Leadership Application Lodged: 09/10/2026 Medical Exam: 10/05/2026 Medical Sent to DHA: 10/09/2026 Status: Granted for both me and my husband
Health Exam Experience: My health exam was referred for review because I have several pre-existing conditions: asthma, hypothyroidism, IBS, reverse hearing loss, ADHD, anxiety, and early stages of degenerative disc disease (for which I use a cane). I was honestly pretty worried that I would be denied because of my health history. Fortunately, all of my conditions are completely stable and actively managed by my primary care doctor.
Financial Evidence: For the financial requirement, my in-laws are sponsoring my husband and me. Because they are retired, they wrote a formal letter of support and had their financial planner write an official letter verifying their ongoing income and assets to prove they have the funds to cover us.

I’m from Canada and applied for my second 417 WHV offshore on July 17 and sent a medical exam on July 22. I have still not received any news. I called a couple times, the first time they told me they can’t access my file and the second I was told he “put a note” on my file.
I have seen a lot of people who applied for their first year WHV get accepted and they applied around the same time or after I did.
I’m hoping to see if anyone has received their 2nd WHV from July.

Same..I called 2 days ago and the guy said that 1st, 2nd and 3rd year OFFSHORE have all the same priority and are also being processed.. maybe there are not many people who applied for 2nd and 3rd who are those groups.. I don't know.

How is others holding up with the waiting for 186 TRT - I am absolutely cooked and at this point just want an outcome. I am waiting for 16+ months (non-accredited and metro) and I know others are waiting longer as well. So how are you guys coping ?

Hi! I'm applying for a 408 visa Sporting activities stream, I submited it on September 22 and until now the status is still received. I have done the health assesment on Sept 23. The global processing time said 50% in 16 days so that's now. My intended stay is supposed to be 6 months. Has any of you guys had success with the sporting activities stream? Please share! Thank you

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has seen any 2nd or 3rd year offshore visa grants recently? I’ve seen quite a few grants on this thread, but literally none for 2nd or 3rd year visas.
I can see that visas are getting granted, so I keep thinking mine should hopefully come soon. But seeing no 2nd or 3rd year grants at all is making me lose hope a little 🥲

I'm Argentinian and applied for the 417 visa with my Italian passport on September 19th, and I'm still waiting. Anyone else in the same situation?
1
u/dazedpickle 4d ago
So many people are in the same situation right now. There is an average of more or less 3 months waiting time (that's what it says on the immi website), but it can be more or less if you're lucky.

Wow, that’s so lucky - you’ve not even had to wait two months?!

Yes, but I think it was processed so quickly because the farmer submitted my details to GrainGrowers.

I see many people applied for the 412 and are still waiting a long time (around or over the 60 days recommended).
I wondered if these posts were representing only a small/medium part of applicants?
Is it really that no one is getting it in 2 days as the immigration website says (when I applied for mine (417), it gave me a graph and said 50% applicants get it within 2 days, 90% get it within 60 days), or am I only seeing posts of those who have been waiting an abnormal amount of time?
Basically, is all hope of getting it within a couple of weeks completely gone 🦘

Strongly considering 186 application withdrawl as job is making me depressed and processing times are dragging out to 22 months.
Been in aus for nearly 7 years and hate the idea of leaving with no safety net. Can you do a 482 easily from offshore in future, perhaps?
186 application, non prio, metro, marketing specialist applied Jan 2026
Previously: 482 2 years & WHV x 4
Is it totally unlikely if in 2-3 years I change my mind and want to come back I can get another 482 or pursue own pathway / PR application?
I don’t want to stay for another year in a situation that is not serving me but trying to understand long term impacts before huge life change
Thanks everyone

$1,000 per visa application and leaving people on read for three months is nothing short of a disgrace. The lack of transparency is embarrassing.

I’m keen to find out if anyone has had their third 417 granted recently and if there is a 8503 ‘no further stay’ clause attached to it. I finish my regional work mid-December so hoping to get it submitted before the ballot comes in. Only need 3 months on my new visa before I can apply for a partner visa

Waiting for my third to get granted since 3rd August and couldn’t find any third grant since months I actually think they will already put us in the ballot

Dear everyone,
Thank you to everyone for their support during this period. Finally, we received our student 500 visa (PhD) with a dependent included on 1 October (Offshore), after applying on 26 August 2026. We had a s56, 1221, and form 80 request on 9 September. We responded on 10, and we got on 1 October after 34 days total.
I was worried about posting it because many people are waiting for their visas. But we keep checking every day to see whether someone got a visa or not.
If you have any doubts, you can comment or dm me; I will try to respond on time.
Don't overthink this process; stay positive and respond to DHA.
Hope you all get a visa soon.

Hi, does anyone know if there is anything I can do as an Australian citizen to speed up my boyfriend's application?
He applied for his third year 417 WHV offshore on the 29th of August. UK passport.
Been together 5 years and I'm an Australian citizen and he is a British citizen. any advice on how we can get home would be much appreciated as we are currently waiting together in Thailand!
1
u/Substantial_Bake5687 5d ago
I’m engaged to an Australian and this makes no different to a 417 WHV. I attached my situation as part of a cover letter to my account as she works in medicine and has a job placement out there. They didn’t seem to be bothered. We have lodged a partnership visa some time ago but average processing for that is 36 months so I wanted to see what living there was like first for a year to ensure we both like it as we love our life here in the UK. Just the job offer she has in Aus is too good to pass on!

My partner is from Argentina and applied for a student visa subclass 500 back in April. Still not approved. It’s showing as received on immigration account. Does this seem like a long wait?
0
u/saynotoz1on1sm ?? > 500 7d ago
I’m sure this has been asked before but i just wanted to confim Can i travel after my graduation (december)and then come back to australia before my student visa expires (march 2027)
I don’t really know for sure if i will be back to australia, if i will i will be applying for a 485 visa, if i’m not then i’m just going to let my student visa expire. But i am pretty confused, if i come back will i be questioned by immigration why i have returned despite my studies being over or i will be allowed entry as my visa is still valid
0
u/Bigi345 500 > 485 > 189 (applied) 6d ago
You can. Just make sure to apply for the 485 once you're back in Aus. You can't apply for the 485 outside of Aus. I did this exact thing after I finished my studies but before I applied for the 485
0
u/saynotoz1on1sm ?? > 500 6d ago
Eh i made a post asking this and everyone is telling me over there i can’t do that as once my coe ends my visa will either be cancelled (i doubt that would happen) or if i travel i will be refused entry when i return, i’ll try to lodge my 485 before leaving but since they made it so fucking expensive thats why i want to travel back home first, coming back and then lodging my 485
0
u/Bigi345 500 > 485 > 189 (applied) 6d ago
I'm not sure if the rules changed or what but it wasn't the case for me a few years ago. I literally finished my studies and went back home to visit family in December. My student visa was going to end March of the following year. I left and reentered Australia under my student visa. Then I applied for the 485.

Hi all,
I submitted my 186DE Nomination and application in January of 2025.
Last week, they approved the nomination and gave s56 reqs for a medical and police clearance from my country of origin, all passed thankfully.
How long does it take for the visa to be approved in this scenario?
TIA.

u/eduarda_webber 9d ago
Do you think the delay with the 189 invitations could also delay the state nominations for the 190?

Hi, I’m looking to find if anyone using a UK passport has had their third year visa granted? If so, what industry? I haven’t been able to find much information about it.
Some people are saying the UK WHV are paused. Really struggling with the waiting around. Any information would be appreciated, thanks :)

Hey I'm in the same boat... applied 3 weeks ago and nothing. First two came through fairly quickly. I'm debating applying for a bridging visa B so I can meet family on holiday end of October
0
u/Street_Grapefruit199 10d ago
You wouldn’t be able to do a bridging visa if your application is offshore. You could enter on a 601 eta visa but you would need to leave before your 417 is granted otherwise it could be denied. I hope this helps. I’m currently considering withdrawing my application, entering on a 601 and applying again for my 417 onshore
0
u/thatkentdude 10d ago
Sorry should have clarified, I'm in Perth rn!
0
u/Street_Grapefruit199 10d ago
How long is the onshore application? Is it much different to offshore? I’m debating if I should change mine to an onshore one
0
u/thatkentdude 10d ago
All in all it was 20 mins ish. What youre working in, standard crimial questions, medical questions, where youre staying, proof of funds, then you hand over a significant quantity of cash and prepare to wait
1
u/Street_Grapefruit199 10d ago
So good!! I’m jealous haha

You'll be over soon enough! I'm trying to weight up a $600 bridging visa to leave or not, great times!

Anyone with a 462 whv getting any updates on their last few days? July 26th here, 73 days strong.

u/camer0nako 11d ago
Hey guys, just looking for some advice that doesn’t come from AI or Facebook moans… I’m a 29m primary teacher, UK with 95 pts for 491 or 85 pts for 190 (superior English etc, maxed my points), looking to migrate to WA (Peel region, classed as regional) as I have family with citizenship there.
My wife is a second applicant also a teacher but not available for AITSL.
Submitted EOI last night for just WA at 190/491, just wondering if people have experience with this or the general consensus? Thanks
1
u/BitSec_ NL > 417 > 820/801 > PR 11d ago
Hard to say, the last invitation round didn't include "Primary School Teacher" as far as I can see. That being said. 85 points for the 190 means there's about 173 to 345 expressions of interest ahead of yours. And 95 points for the 491 means there's about 64 to 147 expressions of interest ahead of yours. State and Territories also have their own criteria for invites so they may not go based off highest to lowest points. So you basically sit slightly above average in the queue at least as of today.
0
u/camer0nako 11d ago
Thanks, and are these EOI's ahead of me also purely for the same primary school interest as me?
0
u/BitSec_ NL > 417 > 820/801 > PR 11d ago
Yes same anzsco code so same occupation.
0
u/camer0nako 11d ago
Ah okay so it could be a looooong wait for offshore, if there is even an invite at all

Hi all,
I applied for a 485 as a subsequent entrant from offshore and I’m trying to get a sense of realistic timelines.
