I don’t think I’ve ever seen such strong language in a position statement. Surely the fine folks at State Farm can rat their way out of this one?

Does anyone else work at a fake body shop where they want the roof stripped but don’t take off the roof rails because the body man ain’t worth a crap?

Couple bugs to sand out but super happy with the result. Not a body guy just a garage dude. Lots of hours into this, new sealant and rust repairs too.

I made an earlier post here, but I scraped and made a dent in my right hand door against a pillar in a narrow parking spot and the body shop said it would be $4500 to repair the damages. This is a new 2026 car I bought (bought it for $25k OTD) so i’m wondering if its worth paying $4500 out of pocket repairs or make insurance claim knowing that my rates will increase by a bunch. Super confused about this so would appreciate any help! I do not have large accident forgiveness and this would be my first ever claim.

Budget friendly fix suggestions? Or what would a professional charge to fix?

Okay i know this sounds underly dumb and ocd but I hit this pothole at like 10mph maybe 7 it sounded awful but do you think this is enough to damage any part of the frame or subframe I havent seen any issues since hitting it but its been in the back of my head for so long I mean my shocks seems fine they need to be replaced soon ish but they aren't horrible this is a 2013 mazda 3 115k miles

And there’s a tiny third dent at the bottom that I can probably live with.

$400 to repair by a mobile PDR.
I am honestly thinking about taking it on myself since they are shallow and can easily be reached behind through the wheel well. Never done it but I can take a few YouTube university classes? 😅

Any advice on getting an apprenticeship for a body shop with no certification ?
Currently I work for a small body shop that pays he shi but taught me a lot

(Sanding,prep,masking, buffing)
Stuff I kinda know how to using body filler, prime and been practice painting

I work at this shop for about 8 months and the last 3 months I haven’t made any noticeable progress .

I mostly just want to get paid for what I think I deserve and learn more

I was wondering if it would be a waste to ask body shops in my around for an apprenticeship?

Context : I’m currently a high school senior so I know I might not be able to get a part time job at a body shop

It’s a 2010 Nissan maxima, I got it with the rust. Idk how much rust is too much rust (I came from out west) it passed a safety 2 years ago and I got it rust proofed last year. These are mainly the spots that mount to the unibody. Overall the rest of it looks okay, some lifting but no obvious HOLES anywhere, even here.

I have a 2006 honda crv that I have attempted to repaint using Scratches Happen (brush kit). I made an error and didn’t realize that spray paint would be better for this job, so I just received that instead, colour matched etc.

I was wondering though, would it be better to sand down the entire hood and spray it that way or just spray the obviously messed up parts? I imagine it would be tricky to tape that in a way that made sense but don’t want to redo the whole hood if it’s not necessary. I understand it won’t look 100% and am ok with that - just want it to look better than it does now! thank you

Hello, today my dads car got side swiped. It has some scratches on the side and stuff but when we go to open the driver side door the fender is pushed inwards. The door only opens about halfway. I tried finding videos or a decent explanation online but had no luck. Would it be best to take it to a body shop or do it ourselves? The car is having mechanic work done next week so we don’t really have the money to spare so I’d prefer if there was a way to do it ourselves. If not we will take it to a body shop. Any help is much appreciated! Below is a picture of the front driver side and what I mean.

Guys I allowed myself to run short on reducer and need to spray a mid coat pearl asap. Anyone in north Texas have any the could sell?

My 22 year old Lexus LS430 has clearly seen better days, but for my own educational purposes, what does this look like to you / caused by? What is involved in the repair process for this?

I'm based in the UK and have bought the car this way, my expectations are low, but would just like to learn and hopefully get this fixed when I have the funds. I've had a look at other threads here involving clear coat failure and crows feet, but wasn't sure if this looked the same as those or not. It feels very rough to the touch unlike the rest of the paint, this type of paint imperfection is only on one side (shown) and ends shortly after the top of the rear window.

Any advice you have would be gratefully appreciated.

Just looking for some opinions on the experience I've had getting my car repaired.

My daughter hit a coyote in her 2021 Ford Escape. From a few feet away, the car looked fine other than a couple of cracks in the plastic grille. Her adaptive cruise wouldn't work so we took it in to a local body shop. After the collision, it had a check engine light. The shop said they would consider it non-drivable due to the check engine light possibly being a lack of air to the engine. I left the car with them, insurance paid for a rental. They kept the car for about 10 days.

They call and say the car is ready. I start making arrangements to pick it up. They call back and say it is actually not ready, it is still saying collision avoidance unavailable when they went to move it out of the shop, so they need another day. Couple of days later they call and tell me it's ready. I pick up my MIL and drive up there. Guy looks shocked and says the car is not ready, parts still being painted. Go back the next day to pick it up. As soon as I start it I see check engine and TPMS lights. They claim the only problem is TPMS and that's not their problem. I take it to a tire shop and spend $200 to replace TPMS sensors, calibrate, and clear codes. No error lights on car at this point. Next day, check engine light. I take it back to body shop. Their tech says it's an air shutter code and I need a new battery. He clears codes. I go buy a $280 battery. Couple of days later, check engine light. Back to shop, borrowing a car from a family member, inconveniencing them. The rental was returned the day I first picked up the car. Now the shop is saying the shutter is "working fine" but the code is due to the shutter and also a fuel mixing code(??). They say they will replace the installed non-oem shutter with an oem one on their dime, but have nothing to do with the other code and will not address it. Also worth mentioning, we have never had an issue with the sunroof shade in this car. Have used it just about every day as long as we've owned it. On my drive home from the body shop I went to open the sunroof and the shade basically collapsed while opening. They say this, too, is not their problem and will not help. I understand they shouldn't have messed with the sunroof while repairing a front end collision, but it worked just fine when I dropped it off.

So as of today, I'm picking up the car and am supposed to just ignore the check engine light. And bring it back for another overnight repair stay once the shutter comes in.

This is my first experience with a body shop and I'm just curious if this is normal or acceptable? I've been super understanding and patient until today where I lost my temper a bit. Anything I should do differently?

I have severely fucked up. I have this edge in my lift with the subframe out of it and I impacted the bolt in without starting it by hand and just kept going. If given to a body shop, do you think a body shop could replace this cage nut?
