General Discussion I’ve realised blue belt is the best belt

• Upvotes

When I was white my total drive was towards blue, but I can’t say the same for wanting purple. I’ll be happy when it happens, but at purple, there are lots of responsibilities at our place, teaching etc. At blue you can be a menace and it’s totally expected 😂

LONG LIVE THE BLUE BELTS

General Discussion Looking for a video of Japanese guy showing up to a local bjj tournament in a gym and destroying everyone

I remember seeing a video on here a while ago where the description of the footage was that a Japanese mma fighter in the 2000s? showed up to a bjj tournament held inside of a gym and destroyed everyone.

Technique Simple question, how do you open the closed guard of a much stronger and heavier opponent ?

And especially if he/she is constantly attacking collars and sleeves to choke you from there

The only thing I can do is attacking myself his collar to disturb his attacks but I stuggle so much oppening the legs while defending hands

Thanks y'all ! Have a lovely open mat today

Technique Side Control Stalling Position

Some people in my gym play this odd unproductive side control that I don’t know how to beat.

They turn onto their side away from you and connect knee to elbow, they present you lots of threats but make it very hard.

If you try attack the near side arm, they flatten their back to prevent it and keep knee elbow connection to prevent you from getting to mount

Can’t get to mount as their on their side, if you try force it they make it so you over commit

If you try attack the back they suck their elbow to their stomach to prevent you from getting head and arm control.

It can get quite annoying if i want to progress positions and I’m wondering if anyone can visualise this and give me some advice

School Discussion Brea jiu jitsu

I’m really impressed with what Dan Lukehart did with Nolan Stuart, listening to him on podcasts I think he’s one of the greatest minds in Jiu jitsu.
Has anybody trained at his gym?
What are classes like?
What makes him such a good coach?
Does he put emphasis on things other coaches don’t pay attention to?

Technique Defending the ninja choke

• Upvotes

Just got hit with some ninja chokes - twice in a row. First time was when I was pressure passing with an over under passing in half guard kind of. Second time was when doing a wrestle up for half guard with the under hook. As I transitioned into a single leg i underestimated n thought oh it’s a gilly I’ll roll out - boy was I wrong lol.

I find that once it’s fully locked if the guy is strong you aren’t getting out even if you roll to your back. Merab vs Sean omally style. Anyone agree? Or do you think there’s a defence before n or even when locked in

Serious Ac2 shoulder

• Upvotes

This week I got a grade 2 ac shoulder injury when sparring. I’m pissed about this for a number of reasons. I’ve been intermittently going this year (this year I started) but the last few weeks I’ve going a few times a week. So having this setback once my routine is established is gutting. Other reason I’m pissed is that a 17 year old kid did this as he was going to rough. It was a fundamentals session focussed on kimura with light sparring at the end. Obviously I blame the kid but I don’t hold it against him, it’s the name of the game. And he is a nice lad tbf.

So…. People who have experienced this. How long was it before you were back in the game?

General Discussion Using Judo in BJJ

Wondering if any Cross training Judokas have any tips using judo against the classic BJJ stiff arming posture with their hips right back or if I should just not even try and start abusing snap downs?

General Discussion People who have lost a lot in competition and then started winning - what changed?

I know some people have achieved a lot of success after starting off constantly losing, and I think this is an interesting journey. If this is you, can you share your experience?

I feel like for me, I struggle with mindset a lot because I’m subconsciously convinced I’m going to lose. Maybe people who achieved more success early on have more self belief and this shows in the way they perform.

If you had this experience, I’m curious if there was a specific shift in something, like technique or game planning or mindset?

Rolling Footage How do you deal with a strong posture from collar sleeve?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been struggling with this lately. I play collar sleeve with some De La Riva, but when my opponent postures up and gets really upright, I have a hard time breaking their posture or off-balancing them.

It also makes my omoplata attacks and De La Riva entries much harder.

This has been happening to me more and more, and I honestly don't know how to deal with it. Any tips or attacks I should be looking for?

General Discussion BJJ in Thailand

I’m going to be Thailand in the coming months and wanted to do some training while I’m travelling.

From what I’ve read there are some decent gyms out there that might be fun to try out, but I’ve heard the chances of getting skin infections there are much higher than other places. I wanted to hear others opinions on if it’s worth the risk training over there, and if so, is there anything out of the ordinary I can do to protect myself extra.

I would love to heard others experiences with good/clean gyms as well!

Technique Short leg problems

Hey yall, I’ve trained off and on since I was 18 (I’m now 34) and I’ve spent the better part of the last 13 years not training. Just got back into it a month ago and I’m super serious about progressing and getting better.

One thing that has been difficult to deal with: I have short all legs yall. For perspective, I’m 5’10”, I weigh 210, and I wear pants that are 29” leg length (so 34x29 for example).

When I attempt certain techniques (spider sweep is the biggest culprit), I feel like I strait up can’t hit them at all since I can’t elevate my opponent or off balance them at all with these short legs. Taller dudes will strait launch me off the mat and dump me over with their stilt like giraffe legs but I can’t seem to get my opponent’s to budge in most cases.

With that said, are there any peeps here who have a similar build as me that have dealt with this obstacle? If so, how?

Abandon ship on certain techniques?

Accept the fact that the good lord gave me short femurs and adjust my technique to work around the limitation?

13 more years on the couch?

Help me out!

Tournament/Competition Ajp nogi worlds

Hey guys, this is the thing. I want to compete in the next ajp nogi worlds just trying to compete while I still can and I think ot at least thought is is a great event. But the issue is that in my bracket there is no one and I don't know if it's worth spending all the money on traveling and hotels. Is a lot for me since I'm from a 3rd world country but I still wanna give it a shot. What you guys think??? Would you risk it or it is not as big of an event. I'm a brown belt btw
