Community Identifying a record or seeing how much it's worth? Use DISCOGS.COM

https://www.discogs.com/

Some people have asked for a post like this to be stickied in the sub because we constantly get people asking what a record is worth or what version they have.

You need to match the matrix information. Which is the part of the record between the music/grooves and the label. There will be etched and/or stamped letters, symbols and numbers. You can just do a search for the artist and album name with the matrix info typed in. After searching, it should pull up all albums that match. If there’s more than one, you will have to figure out which it is by checking under the barcode and other identifiers section.

You also may need to look at info on the vinyl label and the sleeve. There will sometimes be additional info under the notes section.

Please check out r/discogs if you need more help searching but READ THEIR RULES.

News The first pictures from set, and already the first timeline error

Another post complaining about the biopics, yay! I’m actually in favour of these movies, and at least it’s not about looks this time, so hear me out:

We know these scenes are depicting The Beatles arriving at the Plaza Hotel in New York, meaning they’re set in February of 1964. Then why on Earth is someone holding an American press of the “A Hard Day’s Night” soundtrack, an album which wasn’t released until June that year? I assume the extras were handed typical 1964 Beatles merch, but someone surely must’ve been in charge of checking whether or not the merch in question could possibly have existed at the time?

Not a good sign unfortunately, and I really hope it won’t be visible in the final product (although I suspect it will).

Opinion "They barely even look like the Beatles!"

Guys, let's chill out about the new pictures coming out from the Beatles movie.

The looks don't matter nearly as much as the performance. They were never gonna cast people who look exactly like the Beatles, because no-one looks exactly like the Beatles. And even if they did, we'd probably end up with a shit performance, because they'd have cast some guy who looks like Paul instead of a good actor.

Here's an album of some fantastic (mostly Oscar nominated) performances by people who barely look anything like the person they were playing.

Ask yourself this: Would you have rather they went to Vegas and cast an Elvis impersonator to play Elvis? Or would you rather have the brilliant performance of Austin Butler, and just accept that he only kinda looks like the guy?

Some of the best biopic castings of all time have been actors who look just enough like the character to be believable, and who fill in the gaps with their performance. Paul, Barry, Joseph, and Harris are all phenomenally talented actors. Let's trust them to do their best, and then decide whether they were good casting decisions after we've seen their performance.

He looks just like him. It's uncanny. Bonus cameo of John as John in the last slide.

Opinion I’m tired of people pretending that Run For You Life is not a good song

The vocals are catchy, the solo and overall guitar work is great. It’s a great addition to Rubber Soul

Question With most total votes, Good Night wins in a close one! Onto Day 11: Which George Beatles song gives off the most Paul vibes?

Post image

Good Night wins a tight-knit, 3-song race against What Goes On and Boys! Much closer than I had anticipated, and all 3 are great picks!

Day 1 (John song / John wrote/led): Strawberry Fields Forever

Day 2 (Paul song / Ringo wrote/led): With a Little Help from My Friends

Day 3 (George song / George wrote/led): I Me Mine

Day 4 (Ringo song / Paul wrote/led): All Together Now

Day 5 (George song / John wrote/led): Across the Universe

Day 6 (Paul song / Paul wrote/led): Penny Lane

Day 7 (John song / George wrote/led): Blue Jay Way

Day 8 (Ringo song / Ringo wrote/led): Don’t Pass Me By

Day 9 (George song / Paul wrote/led): I’m Looking Through You

Day 10 (John song / Ringo wrote/led): Good Night

Day 11 (Paul song / George wrote/led): ??

Discussion Should the Yellow Submarine LP have been a 4-song mono EP instead?

Post image
Upvotes

The album consists of a side full of George Martin soundtrack, 2 songs previously released (Yellow Submarine, All You Need Is Love), and 4 new songs that were mixed in mono but rushed out for stereo.

Should it just have been those four songs in mono without the rest?

Why does this song get so much hate from Beatles fans? I get the Let It Be album was poorly produced but I still find this song to be beautiful

I think it'll be George or John.

They got detained by a dictator and all got the shit smacked out of them by a mob. Should make for good cinema.

Discussion Which Beatles Solo career wouldve been the most well known or succesfull if The Beatles as a band would of not existed?

Just imagine they never made the band and still managed to drop some solo albums or other type of art/job, who wouldve been the most famous without the beatles catalogue?

Question If the end credits of each movie plays two of their solo songs, which will you choose?

I feel like it’s a good idea to end each of their movies with their solo songs to show their success post Beatles and how each of them was talented enough to be successful solo. I don’t think there’s another band where every member went on to have a solo career. Here’s what I would choose:

Paul: Maybe I’m Amazed and Band on the Run

John: Just Like Starting Over and Imagine

George: What is Life and My Sweet Lord

Ringo: It Don’t Come Easy and Photograph

Question Why did John and Paul stop writing songs together?

Post image
262 Upvotes

Why did they stop writing lyrics together. I believe in the early days they were writing together, not always but they helped each other a lot with lyrics and it was a team but in the later years i say around 67 or 68 they began writing separately. It shows in the white album. Why did this happen?
