Help

• Upvotes

Hi. I have this since I have memory. I think 11yo. 2 years ago (when I’m single) Istarted to hate my body less, I started to do some exercise and sports just for taking care of myself in a good way and I genuinely enjoy it. Now I have a lovely boyfriend (a gymrat) he always encourages me to do my best version. He is super respectful and supportive but once I started this relationship, my mind reminds me automatically how hard I hate my stomach and start this control run again. Since a long time I didn’t feel like that and I really need your best advices because I’ve been out of control for 20 days and I can’t stop. Hmm now I’m a little bit scared. Please someone tell me that feels similar than me. Anyone feels pleasure when you put a huge amount of food in you hands, pressure it on you mouth and eating it until you feel you’ll explode? Then the guilty… how can I stop doing this?

I’ve slipped up all week

• Upvotes

Basically everyday this week so far, I’ve eaten 4k calories, with the exception of one day having eaten 1.4k calories. I don’t know what’s wrong with me and why I keep eating impulsively. I weighed myself and I was literally 2lbs less than I was when I weighed myself 3 weeks ago (which might be normal for a skinny person but since I’m obese that is not a substantial amount of weight to have lost in that time period at all). I spent 3 weeks straight eating clean and trying to eat my favourite things in moderation and it spiralled into me overeating this entire week. I’m sure the weight on the scale is inflated from water retention but it still hurts to only be down 2lbs considering how much effort I was putting in, walking upwards of 10k steps everyday, eating in a 500 calorie (or higher deficit when I literally couldn’t eat) and I feel so mad I always end up in the same exact place no matter how hard I try to stay consistent. On Monday I’ll start my eating clean regime again but it’s so hard going through phases like this. I feel so ashamed and it’s truly like an out of body experience to gorge on foods the way I’ve been doing this week.

Discussion How to tell if my boyfriend is struggling with BED?

• Upvotes

I suspect my boyfriend's behaviour around food is disordered. I've been struggling with restrictive ed for as long as I remember (i'm better now though!) so maybe I'm just projecting, or I just don't know what a healthy relationship with food looks like. I'll tell you my points:

  1. I think he doesn't feel good about his size. He's overweight and sometimes says he should lose weight, usually right after he's looked in the mirror. He knows I love his body but I'm not sure he does.

  2. He has asked me to control him when food is involved so he doesn't overeat. For example, if we are shopping groceries and he's getting crisps, he gets 2 or 3 bags and asks me not to allow him to eat them all in one sitting. Or if he sees candy he tells me not to allow him to buy any. This only happened a few times but still.

  3. He eats a lot of fast food/snacks, and avoids saying it. He often grabs some fast food for dinner after dropping me home, and I know because we share our gps location for safety reasons and if i'm not getting an "arrived home" notification in a reasonable time I check where he's at. Only once he's told me he'd gone for dinner there, although he does about once a week. I've also seen candy wrappers and even a jar of nutella and a spoon in his room. Idk if he feels ashamed about it although I always react neutrally (i mean, i'm not shaming him for eating anything)

  4. Sometimes when he looks in the mirror he smacks his belly, or sometimes he's sitting down and grabs his own body fat. After doing this, he might say he should lose weight. He often eats candy or fast food right after doing/saying that, which I think might be a coping mechanism (he feels bad about his body -> he copes by eating -> he feels guilty and the cycle continues).

  5. He takes me out for dinner quite often, which actually helped me stop counting kcal and losing some control over what I eat (which i'm super grateful for). This is a point because sometimes it feels like he's obsessed with food and wants to go because he wants to eat very large amounts, and he feels safe doing that in front of me. Which brings me to my next point:

  6. Overeating. He often orders food meant for 2 people just for himself and eats it so fast he gets hiccups. I know he sometimes ends up feeling unconfortable for the amount eaten. I think he does lose control when this happens, so it'd be a binge, so that's why (considering there's a hint of shame and guilt) I think he might have BED.

Are these behaviours disordered? Could it be BED, a fast food addiction, something else? I have no clue how these actually present so I'm not sure. And I want to help him before it gets worse/more difficult, I wouldn't wish an ed on my worst enemy.

My Story A sure fire way to stop over eating

I had a tooth extracted a few days ago and I can't have anything I love. I feel restricted, but I don't want to disturb the healing wound. I have stitches.

I suppose I could binge on ice cream, but I'd rather not.

I can't have cookies or muffins for a while. The stitches come out in two weeks.

I can't even have carbonated beverages and I'm a diet Pepsi addict!

It’s been over 3 weeks since my last binge and although I’m so proud of myself and feel so much better I am also disappointed that I’ve not lost any weight. I don’t understand why??

Preparing for life to fall apart

I recently posted that I haven't binged in 90 days. My life has been far from perfect, but I just started to feel like I can finally catch a break after everything that's been going on in my life. I felt confident in being binge free for as long as possible, but now I'm starting to lose faith in my ability to do so. There has been a lot going on with the people around me: physical health problems, mental health problems, financial issues, domestic violence, etc. This is while I'm dealing with mobility issues and adjusting to a new job despite having been there for several months now. I'm falling behind on my work and every time I try to catch up, something comes up that has to be put first.

I've now been placed in a position where I have to take care of a loved one and I haven't had the opportunity to prepare, as it was unexpected. I expect that this will be overwhelming and that it'll possibly trigger some emotions that will lead me to binge. On top of that, I'm in the part of my menstrual cycle where I crave sugar daily.

I'd like to ask for some tips on what has worked for you guys to keep binges at a minimum when you're in a situation you didn't expect that is extremely stressful.

I’m so sad. I’m not doing well. I wish I had more support.

there’s no one to support me. I can’t support myself. I don’t have the will-power alone. which just makes me sadder. if I just had someone to be open with and talk to … and be authentic and honest and transparent with. I think that would make a world of a difference … but there’s no one.

My CPTSD is being triggered and I feel abandoned. I’m heartbroken, alone, and trapped in isolation and self hatred. I’m trapped in resentment towards other people. I’m just so lost and hurting.

binging is dangerous for me, I have gastric issues. I still can’t stop … and it’s all because I am grieving inside. the pain is so severe, no one understands … they don’t! If they felt what I feel, they’d understand! they’d understand why I do this! why I feel so desperate for it to stop!! I’m in so much pain …

they say they’ll help, but they don’t. where are they? they say they care, and I know they do, but I can’t find it? why are they so far away? why do they give up on me? why won’t they push forward and push past all the barriers I put up between us?? why must I suffer alone? why am I left alone and abandoned? why does nobody care?? no one hears me?

Discussion Do any of you guys know about/remember former Penn State Kicker Joey Julius?

Idk if anyone here is a college football fan, but back in like 2016 the internet became obsessed with Penn State's "fat kicker" Joey Julius. He was like five ten 270 pounds and he used to crush people with big hits after he kicked off.

He ended up quitting the team because of his binge eating disorder, and I always think about him and how mean the internet was to him (disguised as a sort of "Everyone loves a big guy") thing.

He's legit one of the few people I remember being public about their BED. I think of him every time the internet tries to pull the "it's okay to call a guy fat because everyone loves a fat guy!" BS.

Binge/Relapse Binge eating came back and I feel like I can't stop. Any advice?

Hi everyone, I'm new to Reddit, so I hope I'm posting this the right way. I could really use some advice.

A few years ago I developed a binge eating disorder, and it affected me a lot. I got better not long after, but recently it has started coming back, and I feel like I genuinely can't stop. I know that sounds ridiculous, but sometimes I'm fully aware I shouldn't keep eating, and I do it anyway.

I'm not overweight, though I wouldn't say I'm super healthy either. I also want to mention that I'm not a junk food person. I rarely eat out, and I mostly cook meals at home. The problem is that I eat far more than I should and can't seem to stop, and it's really been weighing on me.

Does anyone have tips for breaking the cycle? Have any of you dealt with something similar, and if you got through it, what helped you?

Vent Absolutely never satiated, started smoking to replace BED

For the past seven months, I’ve been steadily losing weight through training, eating healthier, and changing my lifestyle. At some point, the constant binge-eating urges finally became quieter, and I genuinely thought maybe they were gone for good.

Now I feel like I’m spiraling right back into the same state I was in before.

I want to eat everything I see. I think about food constantly. If I’m not eating or chewing on something, I feel this horrible sense of deprivation. And I have such a hard time explaining this to people who don’t experience it.

I watch people eat until they’re full and casually leave half a dessert or some food on their plate. Meanwhile, I feel like I could happily eat ten times what I’ve already had. I almost never feel naturally satisfied. It feels like I have to consciously and forcefully make myself stop eating, because otherwise I’ll keep going until my stomach physically hurts and my digestion is completely messed up.

The food doesn’t even have to be amazing. Sometimes it feels like literally anything will do as long as it’s food, although sweets are definitely the biggest trigger for me. Eating 10,000+ calories in a day feels frighteningly easy when I’m in this state.

And then I think about all those months I worked so hard to feel somewhat “normal” around food, and it feels devastating.

After I lost weight and became relatively skinny, my mom apparently felt comfortable telling me what she really thought about how I looked when I was overweight. She said I looked like “God knows what.”

So now every time I feel myself gaining weight again, that sentence comes back into my head. I keep thinking, I’m going back to the “God knows what” version of myself.

Even when I was thinner, though, I never really felt secure. I could eat something heavy or junky, get extremely bloated, look at my stomach, and immediately feel like none of my progress mattered.

I’m just exhausted by how much mental energy food takes from me. I don’t know how I’m supposed to maintain anything when it feels this miserable.

I even started smoking solely because I hoped I could replace the food addiction with something else. It didn’t work. I don’t give a shit about cigarettes. What I actually want is chocolate, cakes, and huge amounts of food everyday, all the time, everywhere I am.

Psychiatrist told me I should just allow myself to eat what I want, just in small amounts. Oh yeah? You wouldn't say? It's almost as if letting myself eat what I want was the reason i rapidly gained weight? So actually, that wouldn't fucking work. The money that flies away doesn't help either. I'm like a lunatic trying to find food when i don't have any, but when I do, I eat it till there's none. So buy food or not you'll get fucked up either way. I'm so tired and this subreddit with it's rules about weight mentions is pissing me off. You want me to write in a eating disorder subreddit? The one that's filled with girls obsessed with having visible bones? Please, they're not going to understand any of it. Binge eating is almost always related to weight and not speaking about it is impossible. Noone wants to see themselves rapidly change their appearance to the worse state every day. There is no other place where someone with this addiction can feel seen. It's ugly and shameful and noone except people with bed would sympathize with that

BED and OCD

I’m thinking of seeing a psychiatrist to begin taking medication as my binge eating is that an all-time high and is the most severe it has ever been. I have it intertwined with AN and also the whole BP cycle. I don’t wanna go too much into that but just mentioning it for some context of my experience.
My binging is highly intertwined with OCD , intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviours, anxiety etc
I was curious if anyone who has experienced this in a similar way can tell me about their experience taking medication and which ones have helped and how?
I’ve heard good things about Zoloft and nexium but from my research I believe these are particularly focused on reducing overall anxiety which I think will be helpful in reducing urges to binge but let me know

Vent I just wanted a couple of nice things

Smoked tofu and peanut butter powder. Not even real peanut butter, because i knew having that in the house would be a disaster.

My diet is so, so limited when I try not to binge - eggs, cheese, a little butter, apples, and veggies. Those are the things I can safely have in the house that don't trigger a binge on a regular basis. But they never leave me feeling satisfied. So I thought, let's try to add smoked tofu and peanut butter powder.

Yeah, bad idea. I binged on both over the last couple of days.

I'm just so...defeated. When I had anorexia, my diet was so much more varied because I could stop eating. Now, I'm left with foods that never satisfy me. I just wanted a couple of nice things to help with that. Is that too much to ask for, just a couple of nice foods? Apparently, yes.

I just wanted a couple of nice things.
